😍 What are your recommendations to have super fertile ootheca? 😍

Interesting how black their eyes are at hatching. Super cool to see them emerge. Great! I just sent you a message to your discussion comments.
An idea for videos - how about following a mantid (or several) from 1st instar to adult? I'd love to see updates on time it takes, changes in care along the way, a lucky molt videos, etc.

      "All nymphs are beautiful." Nice.
Oh, ants don't inject formic acid by biting. They inject it by stinger, which are actually modified ovipositors. Not all ants have stingers so many species don't produce formic acid. But the ones that do... Can sting like a bitch. ;) I majored in entomology so I tend to nit pick. :)

Terranscapes Thanks for watching 😊 Yes it’s fascinating for sure. I assume the black eyes is due to them being in complete darkness inside the ootheca, much like when their eyes go darker with diminishing light etc....
With regards to your idea, it’s something I intend to do at some point....but it’s just about finding the time to dedicate to such a project. But definitely something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time. Have you seen my other moulting videos? I have documented macro images of the various stages of developing mantids over the years, but not actual video footage of it....that’s the next project, kind of documentary style 😁

Terranscapes Thanks for the corrections. Like I said in the video, it was a very crude interpretation. To be honest, I wasn’t even preparing to talk about that stuff, it kind of just happened off the cuff 😂 So I knew I’d made all manner of mistakes really. It was mean to be just a simple explanation for the layman.

@@UnseenUniverse_Mitch Sometimes gems come from going off the cuff. :) Looking forward to more videos.

@@UnseenUniverse_Mitch I just watched the dead leaf mantis molt. Wow! I love your camera work. I am constantly amazed how insects can pull their legs out of their exoskeleton, even more so for mantids with unusual body shapes. Seeing the wings inflate was disturbing but amazing. :)

What heat and humidity do you keep the ooth at?

Love to see more videos, will you be getting in any particularly rare mantids ?

Definitely lots more videos in the pipeline mate, just need to find time to make them 😂 I have lots of species that it might consider to be ‘rarer’, I’m also planning to do more very short videos, basically just showcasing what I have, and not just me banging on too much.
