The Differences Between Memory Foam & Pocket Spring Mattresses

- Hey Ross here from Glencraft and today we’re back with another video for you about a question we get asked here a lot…
Whats the difference between a memory foam mattress and a pocket spring mattress.
In the majority of todays mattresses you’ll find the main support is delivered from one of two options.
These are either - memory foam or pocket springs.
So which one is right for you, foam or pocket springs AND….does it even matter
Memory foam is everywhere right now, its cheap, its comfortable at first and it has some clever properties…but it might not be the right choice for you! So just how does memory foam work?
When you lie in bed the heat from your body causes a chemical reaction within the memory foam and this makes the foam shape into an imprint of your body.
The problem is, temperature and ventilation play a vital role in sleep. Foam mattresses don’t allow for the circulation of air.
Thick layers of foam act as an impassable barrier next to your body
It causes the heat and moisture from our bodies to build up and and just remains there right next to your skin.
Because the memory foam reacts to the heat, it can feel too hard when its cold and not supportive enough when its warm.
On the other hand, pocket springs offer more support and ventilation than foams do.
They have a more open structure than their foam counterparts which allows air to circulate more freely.
Also, the individual springs that make up the mattress are housed in their own little pockets and work independently of each other. So when I compress them the movement is isolated to that specific area of the mattress.
Overall, a pocket spring mattress will allow you to have a cooler, more comfortable and undisturbed sleep. Preferably, look for one that has natural layers above and below the pocket springs. - Jak na to + styl

Hahahah that made me laugh 😂
This video is legendary. Thanks for the great info.
Memory foam sinks down while you are laying on it.... essentially it's like sleeping on an old mattress with worn out springs, creating a dip in the bed.. when you stand up..the foam rises.. but when you lay on it, you're laying in a dip. I replaced my worn out bed, with a dip, and got anew memory foam......but now I'm still laying in a dip
Thank you for this video, much appreciated!
Much better than expected.
I hate memory form as main cushion base as I get the feeling like sinking into it. I prefer some medium firmness rather than being too soft.
Agree, sometimes it's annoying sinking in, but i hate firmness because it triggers my back pain so i prefer memory foam
my mother said it’s akward to get up in the morning.
Thanks mate, no ego just explained
How will a mattress feel like if it has Memory Foam, Latex and Pocket springs all @ the same time?
Great job thanks
Completely agree with you.
pocket springs for the win.
I want to make my own homemade matress about 20cm...what kind of foam must i buy?i want 3-4 different foam numbers in that matress...what type of foam or what number of foam must i have to make this?i want to make one matress not very hard or very soft, but normal ....
B/t form bed an spring bed , wic his more comfortable an durable plc?
I prefer memory foam because my old spring mattress caused me so much pain and aches throughout my entire body whereas the foam mattresses are so much comfier and don't have springs pushing into your back in your sleep
What about hybrid mattresses? So you basically say that pocket spring mattresses are better?
I really want a memory foam mattress they’re so comfy
You’re going to regret that in the summer :/
@@wolfyalfhiem141 why??
Did you not watch the video?@@123sahily
@123sahily - bcoz they don't allow air pass through your body which touching the mattress & that particular area touching the mattress sweats alot.
Also you will feel somewhat drowzy & light pain in the body in Memory foam. Personal experience of entire family I am sharing.
I have king size valevag IKEA mattress. The problem with the sprung spring mattress is that when you sleep in the edges, mattress sloping causing me to roll out of the bed. This is really annoying. Sleeping in the center is fine but in the edges is a very problematic.Anyone experienced this issue?
Why have either, when you can have both! - Me, the proud owner of a yet-to-be-installed-or-slept-on pocket spring/memory foam mattress.
very nice video i can now sleep very nice
First night sleep on a shakespeare 3000 sprung pocket medium firm mattress incredible i started crying when i woke up i never had comfort nor sleep like this was truely amazing cant wait to go bed tonight
How is it so far?
@@bossmonster23 u need to flip around it once a week still great
What do you mean by "natural layers above and below the pocket springs?"
1:50
Good advice I think. All foams are rubbish, and sag eventually; even latex apparently. Everyone in the business must know this, and yet they plaster the stuff over everything - so then when it sags they can try and sell you a whole new mattress; even if the springs are fine inside if it has them. I think the best bet is to get a pocket sprung mattress with natural layers. Then get a topper maybe, and if that sags you can just get a new one rather than a whole new mattress.
That doesnt work for everyone. I bought very expensive pocket spring mattress but it caused me so much pain due to presure. I have painful joints. I only feel relief with memory foam. I prefer buy memory often than any spring mattress and walk around in pain sleepless.
@@biba3025 Yeah. I got a sprung mattress and had to get rid of it, it was too hard, and bumpy. I now have a harder reflex foam mattress as a base and a softer one on top (so hopefully i only need to replace the top one). There is only one specific type of reflex foam mattress I have found that my back can handle. And when they are new it still sets my back off - I need to go through that unpleasant stage to when it softens up. Then it lasts a while and I'll need a new one and start all over again... Hassle, but as you say, I'd rather buy them more often than deal with the pain. I bought a spare one already because the medical supply place I got it from are annoying and only sell 10 packs most of the time. I'm tempted to buy a 10 pack coz of how much hassle it is to find foam that is just right; and they might stop making them....
@@Lloyd.B. i totaly understand you. Im the same. I get we give extra money, but without sleep couldnt even earn any money and go to work or anything. Good sleep is so important.i would suggest to u, until those 2 last to u, to go check for more options, lay down on mattresses, talk to the sellers about them and ur issues. There r so many options.so many mattresses with long trial period etc.
@@biba3025 I can't afford to spend loads on one, especially as they don't last for many years. The ones I have cost about £120 each.
very new to all this mattress talk, started searching for a new mattress 30 mins to an hour ago and this comment just helped a lot, thanks lloyd
Love you bro. Your explanation is wonderful.

A bit much for a CZcams beds video but thats cool
Nice.
Nice
The difference is memory foam uses memory foam and pocketed coils use pocketed coils.
Memory is the worst thing that happened to mattresses. After a while your foam mattress will be uneven and you will develop back pain and discomfort. I threw away mine after 3 months.
So I assume Glencraft sell pocket spring mattresses judging by the bias 🤔
Thank you for making this a short to the point video. Most videos take about 10 to 20 minutes to explain anything lol
Excellent
Thank you!
can i use pocket spring mattress with memory foam top mattress???
No, you can not. Somehow would come to your house and stop you

@@k0walsk Thank you, I had such a laugh.
I have 3 different manufactured memory foam mattresses, all sag within a year. Even my 45lbs childs bed.
Yes, they just don’t last over time
My mum has it for 4 yrs and still is in great condition. It is a bit more soft but its good. And she is on heavy side.
I got memory foam and I hate it
I stil prefer foam (springfree) mattress.
Great I just brought a memory foam mattress

How can it be unHEALTHY 🤣🤣🤣🤣

1:13. I wouldn’t mind sleeping hot in that mattress...
If u like pain caused by presure go for pocket springs.
Add a mattress topper and u ll love it 😀
Pocket springs are proven to lessen pressure. You have a bad mattress.
Don’t be such a tight ass and get yourself a good pocket spring mattress instead of one with around 100 🙄
Or you can buy a hybrid mattress
@@jeaniejazzie i got myself memory foam one, medium firm, sleep like a baby for 2 yrs now 😊
Memory foam is freaking soft I had to buy a new mattress. 😞
I think memory foam is scam
Honestly memory foam it’s a placebo! Unless u are 20kg, it will cause so much pain, simply doesn’t support enough…
That's not my experience with it
Natural foam is the way to go. Not fancy memory foam or springs that will poke out with age
Natural materials are always a great choice!
You use a mattress protector anyway... so while there differences this is not one of them. Unless you dont use one.. and thats kind of disgusting.
DROP THE CHEESE
Does the woman come with the mattress ? lol
Memory foam mattresses were a big hype. People are becoming aware now how dangerous they are to health. Cancer causing chemical are released whilst you asleep
Good explanation, but the presenter should stop trying for
exaggerated drama with his eyes and face which give a scary, not appealing, effect.
Exaggerated drama?
