9:20 About the sources... While it is great that AI can help us find sources so quickly, I've noticed that, sometimes, the sources ChatGPT or other AI provides are wrong, this is probably because, as great of an illusion of a conscious being AI is, it simply reads and provides whatever info it finds from certain sites, and if those sites got it wrong, then ChatGPT will present the same error.
Always double check the sources it provides. Don't just rol with them.

The fact that modern technology is rapidly reaching a point where it is taking over so many aspects of our society and our lives and could lead to serious consequences is a concern that is indeed very real - it perhaps explains why my grandparents generation when I was a child in the 1970’s and a teenager in the 1980’s were so totally opposed to both the TV and Vatican II in the 1960’s, the internet, computers in schools and mobile phones in the 1980’s, as they were very concerned about what it could potentially lead to, something that they consistently impressed upon us when I was growing up - over 40 years since their passing, many of their predictions and warnings about potential consequences have indeed come to pass and have in many cases been proven to be consistently correct and accurate in our times

Faith is also an emotional aspect vs only an academic philosophy. Chat GPT will tell you the answer tailored to its audience, but it won't believe what it is saying. Much like a student who writes a paper to meet the professors view on a topic, even if the student doesn't share that view. The goal of Chat GPT is to give an answer that will satisfy the asker. But it has no feeling about it.
Which is why it isn't a replacement for humans, as their feelings are important too.

This is both impressive and scary at the same time. It is outstanding that such AI tools can canvas, within seconds, a mindboggling amount of information to come up with an answer. However, if people start using it as a primary resource of knowledge, instead of going to a consecrated person or faithful parishioner, they may get many of the facts right, but they will lack the spiritual connection that can only arise from human interaction.

Serious question, Fr. Casey. As I mentioned in my previous post, I’m a big fan of ChapGPT. I did recently take into consideration that I’ve used the system to get information, or clarity on a spiritual topic. I’d prefer to sit with my parish priest however that’s not always an option. My question is whether you believe this could be a potential gateway to Satan? Since we’re accepting answers to questions about our faith from AI, does it open a door to Satan to influence us against the Christ and His church? I listen to videos from different catholic exorcists, and I understand some of the power of Satan, does he have the ability to control ai, or does he perhaps skew our interpretation of what ai returns? Again, I’m not suggesting that Satan possesses the internet, I’m questioning on whether it can be a gateway for someone that’s already being pursued by Satan.

I wish it was a few weeks ago and we could’ve heard the voice of essentially Scarlett Johansson giving tips to Father Casey. // I’ll borrow an idea from an article. I read about ChatGPT accuracy with medical topics. Father Kacey was a little disappointed in a number of the answers, …but had father Kacey been listening to a lay counselor or even some priest counselors, giving short recorded answers to short questions, he might also have been a little disappointed with many of the answers he heard.

Father Casey what do you mean by it's 'too late' when one gives in to their triggers? For, example, if one clicked on a pornographic website but stopped /left before 'doing' anything would that be grave sin or not sin at all?
Thank for this video. God bless.

I’m saying that at that point it is all up to will power and the flesh, and most are not able to turn the ship around. Obviously we still have free will and should try, but you’ll be much more successful if you avoid the triggers in the first place

Mainly it's not grave sin provided one does it exhausted and at midnight (in that case what's more of a sin is the fact of awakeness at that hour itself).
It'd be a grave sin if one clicked on it with full sunlight at like 4 PM at the office - full knowledge, active will and breaking the moral wall by chosing it as an activity, an entertainment.
Really depends on in what spirit one "clicks".

@@BreakingInTheHabit So clicking on material (the near occasion or closeness to sin) isn't a sin, but fully committing it is, correct? Of course, we should remain chaste, but as a late teenager struggling with Scrupulosity and sexual desires, I have often found myself close to, but not fullly committing some actions.

You should add a prompt before asking the questions such as "answer all my questions as if you were a Catholic theologian" or "as a Catholic Bishop". You probably would have gotten better answers.

On the last question. I’m a former atheist that had returned to the Episcopal Church. While not an actual Catholic, more like Diet Catholic 😉; I think Churches with a High Church approach have something of great value to offer those that are growing tired of post-post-postmodernism or whatever nonsensical simulacrum is festering in our culture.
I was willing to take a Kierkegaardian leap towards something greater than myself and a belief in Love and Beauty as a springboard to a Belief in the saving grace of Christ is a wonderful start. The world is empty without Love and Beauty and I’m slowly learning that Love and Beauty cannot be sustained without the Grace of God.

Fr. Casey, this was very interesting AS A TOOL! For the lay-person, we may not catch subtle errors based on the conversation. AI can help me as Catholic for reminders and preparation but should never be a replacement of active life engaged in Church, family and community.

As much as 'prompt engineering' gets joked about, it is clear that the prompt questions you ask help provide the accurate responses.
Catholicism also benefits from significant written records. Both in actual sources directly, and online resources that explain to a more lay-person level.
You also have the level to validate the reponses. Something lay people might not.
The homily brainstorm example was great to show it can be a tool in the hands of someone who already understands the concepts.
An electric screwdriver is great, but if someone doesnt understand the difference between a phillips head and a flat head, the better tool is to learn how to use manual screwdrivers first

Father Casey, I have a question on the second commandment 'Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain'. I often hear people who use God's name whenever they feel surprised, anxious, overwhelmed, or frightened. Many justify it as a word of prayer. But, to my understanding, it's simply the oral outcome of their emotions rather than a sincere prayer or praise. What's your understanding?
