  • Today, Ian and Mikey are joined by Martin Chuck from the Tour Striker Golf Academy. Martin is one of the top instructors in the world and today he gives Mikey the parameters to fix his cupping wrist.
    The simple-looking FlexClick training aid is designed to show you what the ideal impact position feels like, so you can start striking the ball better with immediate feedback and become more consistent.
    One of the merits to the FlexClick is that it can help your long game AND short game. Whether you want to drive the ball better, hit better irons or are chipping, pitching, hitting flop shots, hitting bunker shots the FlexClick can help you.

    I purchased Martin’s flex click and have been using it for the last few weeks. It has significantly helped me properly shallow all clubs throughout the bag. I am a higher speed player (125mph + driver) and it has helped me also control the clubface and keep my mishits on the planet. Thanks to Ian and Mikey for working with Martin on this segment!! 🙏🙏🙏🔥🔥🙌🙌💪💪💯💯☝️☝️☝️

    Love the series. At last a video that explains that there are many ways to “skin a cat” . Too many videos on CZcams professing to be the “new” and therefore “best” and (often perceived by the viewer) only way to chip/ pitch/ drive etc without any consideration for individuals fundamentals…or the desired outcome on the shot…high / low / draw / fade . Quality content 👍

    The comment about preventing wrist flexion for shorter shots is a great one for me .. very well explained ..thanks

    This video came at perfect time. I was constantly battling to get that flexed wrist impact position and working against what felt natural and consistency was getting worse. Went out today with this swing thought and had 43 points. Going to have to invest in one of the training aids I think.

    Keep in mind, your wrist angles at the top of the backswing need to match up with your grip at address. Someone with a weak lead hand can't have a cupped wrist at all or you're taking a trip to shank city. But if you have a very strong lead hand you cant have a bow either or the face will be completely closed. I have a very strong lead hand grip so I have flat to slightly cupped at the top and it works very well. Tried the bow and I just pull hook everything. Try the flat wrist and over draw everything. Slight cup and everything goes baby draw all day.

    Video was extremely helpful. I have a strong grip like Mikey, so understanding the importance of maintaining the wrist cupping and avoiding flattening at the top is key. When I’m swinging my best, my hands/wrists feel “set” at the top. Then it’s just about turning thru the ball. Great to understand “why”.

    I can see this being a very useful short-game tool for the chunk&blade chippers out there, like how Mikey is using it to prevent a shut face, in order for there to be a signal that you're not using the wedge's bounce but shutting the loft down.

    • @tourstriker
      @tourstriker Před rokem +1

      He’s need more external rotation of his trail arm and more lead wrist flexion. Ian uses my PlaneMate to help w this, too.

    This series with Martin has completely revolutionized the way that I think about my swing. Absolutely loving it! One question I have for Martin: As far as I can tell, my problem is having too much face closure at impact, leading to pulls (or pull hooks!). I almost never miss right, but left is deadly for me. I don't really see any teaching channels talk much about closure rate (except for the video that TXG did years ago about grip size). I'm very curious to know what Martin has to say about this (imo) under-discussed aspect of the golf swing.

    • @tourstriker
      @tourstriker Před rokem +1

      Great point. If you get to the delivery position, p6, and flex your lead wrist, the club head and shaft angle more toward an inside out behavior. Also, that moves the orientation of the face more rightward for the righty, making a straight, or push draw easier.

    • @trebledawson
      @trebledawson Před rokem

      @@tourstriker Thank you so much for the reply! Just to clarify, by "flex your lead wrist", you mean adding flexion ("bowing") at impact? In other words, with the FlexClick on the inside of the wrist you would want to hear a click just before impact? If so, would you prescribe adding the flex at impact, or earlier in the swing (such as the takeaway or transition)?

    • @tourstriker
      @tourstriker Před rokem

      @@trebledawson you want the max bow before you get to parallel to the ground on the way down. Pivot helps deliver that to the ball. Good strikers add flexion at different points; Rahm, early on the way back, while McIlroy does it on the way down.

    That’s very cool. I did think initially, surely he’s just going to present a heap of loft like that - very interesting to see how it allowed Mike to turn to a better impact position to mitigate that. Nice vid, guys.

    Martin. I was a reasonably good player when younger with a very neutral grip, and had a natural little draw.. After years away, mostly playing tennis, I took a lesson and was told I should change to a stronger grip as "that's the modern way to play" It took a while, but I did get used to a stronger grip, and played very well with it at times. Many times I've wondered about going back to a more neutral grip. I have the same issue as Mike, trying to flatten my left hand at the top, or even bowing it, with many pulls as a result. For a fairly good player, would you recommend going back to a neutral grip or doing as you have Mike doing here with maintaining a slight cup in the wrist?

    • @tourstriker
      @tourstriker Před rokem

      Change a grip and lose a friend. Before you change see if you can manage the face with wrist match ups.

      @@tourstriker Thanks. I started little by little weakening my grip over a few weeks to try and make the transition less of a chore. I’m sure it will be fine Re squaring the face, just curious to see if I’m on the right path.

  • @ZeeK33NKS
    @ZeeK33NKS Před rokem +1

    Would this be categorized as a tool to encourage rotating with the club face with the body? I find that my pre-shot routine squares the club up fine due to space and sequencing. All the sequencing and space is lost in the actual swing causing me to save it with the wrists. Strong grip btw

    • @tourstriker
      @tourstriker Před rokem +1

      The slow mo pre shot routines aren’t under the stress from the mass of the club moving at speed. This video should help you sort out some things. Strong grip? Cuppy lead wrist helps.

  • @kourt2469
    @kourt2469 Před rokem +2

    Don't really see any issue with wrist cupping unless you have a weak or neutral grip. If you have a strong grip the wrist cupping is probably just fine

    • @tourstriker
      @tourstriker Před rokem +3

      Agreed, a lot of match ups that can work. The FlexClick can be used as a reference for any of them. Why I made it? 9/10 golfers don’t grip it correctly or set to the ball functionally. This helps in both situations.

      It’s a feedback device. It helps you sort out the delivery sequence. Everyone “flips” it. The difference w good strikers is that the ball is gone when they do it, not before.

  • @stepyourgameupplaya9360
    @stepyourgameupplaya9360 Před rokem +2

    Preventing your wrist from cupping is great and all but this device does nothing to prevent the golfer from coming over the top

    • @tourstriker
      @tourstriker Před rokem +2

      This device helps w the root cause of WHY a golfer comes over the top in the first place. An open face because of a bad grip, or poor wrist habits IS the root cause. Address that and the player has a better chance of meaningful improvement.
