And i think a large issue with differntiating the spiders isnt just the shared area, villains and names but the story. Miles should be the young spiderman and peter should be the adult spiderman but peter has been stunted and kept in the status quo for so long that he takes up the role miles was handcrafted to fill tbh
Exactly! Miles allows Peter to grow up and be a man, husband, and father. He can tackle the responsibility theme in those roles while also being a hero. You can keep Miles young and we have the best of both worlds. I don’t know why Marvel loves to keep Peter as a man child

Ahhh no, because Peter is the real Spider-Man. They should just give Miles another mantle with his own cast instead of just confusing kids with multiple Spidermen. I know Miles Morales fans just want Peter to disappear but he ain’t going anywhere, he IS Spiderman, he’s been the one true Spiderman (apart from the occasional storyline)since the 1960’s, just like Bruce Wayne IS Batman and Clark Kent is Superman, he IS Spider-man…so yeah, they should give him his own identity and earn it instead of just stealing someone else’s.

Miles’ new powers is essentially the speed force lightsabers from the flash tv show. It just kinda feels wrong.

The problem with carnage literally becoming a god every year
keep beating the horse until it stops spitting out money. People liked idea of batman who laughs so dc milked it to the point everybody hated it. Now after King in black marvel will be milking venom and carnage as it does with multiverses and alternate versions now to no end. Just hang to single ideas that once worked and ride them to death.

I like Carnage becoming a bigger threat, because now the entire universe knows who he is and how much dangerous he is. Meaning more people need to be there to stop him like in Carnage Reigns.

Actually didn’t Miles, in a previous run, gain the ability to create “electric webs” that eradicated the use for web-shooters and then after they were introduced, he hasn’t really used them since? So I guess the idea of him creating electric constructs isn’t random and far-fetched but at same time it is pretty odd that he can make a lightning sword. Why not maybe electric daggers as reference to the time he was some spider-themed assassin named Shadow-Spider?
The weird thing about Miles getting a sword is that he doesn’t seem like the type of guy to use a sword at all. I think it would be cool if he could surf on power lines like Coke Macgrath in order to get around areas like the suburbs,something Peter famously can’t do very well

This is exactly what I was thinking. Besides the comics (and even then I'd imagine Peter shows up or is mentioned) every piece of media Miles is in also has Peter play a major role in it. And then there's the fact that Peter is still getting his stuff like No Way Home which was fairly recent so I just don't really believe that someone knows Spider-Man but not Peter Parker

Marvel already did. In the comics Miles uses his conductive webs to increase the range of his bioelectricity (when he's facing villains as strong & stronger than himself) like he did vs Selim. He also used his webs for longer range in Spider-Men & uses his bioelectricity to jump higher & further (Insomniac took Venom Jump / Bioelectric Jump from the comics).
I'm okay with new powers. In my ideal world Miles doesn't have spider powers at all and uses his bio electricity to compensate. Like he could totally use it to crawl around, to be stronger, to be faster. This would be such a nice concept where the legacy character has completely different power set but still decides to be Spider-Man because of the respect, similar values, etc.
the the anime and light novel "Scientific Railgun" the main character can stick to walls and "swing" using electricity and magnetizim. this makes some actions she takes quite similar to Spiderman, hell she had an electro-magnetic field that could sort of detect people like a spider sense. honestly, if miles was all electricity that would be sick, no spider powers that would make him more unique.
That’s why I like miss marvel she’s inspired by carol but is fundamentally different it would be cool if miles didn’t have super strength, speed, spider sense so him and Peter are actually balanced and miles main thing is just his camo and bio electricity but because of spiderman he’s inspired to use those powers like a spider
Miles and Peter can 100% coexist. They can be in the same city and share the same name, no problem. The problem it seems, the writers are a bit intimidated to make new stuff stick. I’d also like to see them coexist and interact a bit more like in the insomniac world. Also about miless new powers, I think it’s awesome he’s becoming the electric Spider-Man, he’ll yea it’s awesome, I just think that the sword should work a bit more like a whip. Like he’s not literally forming a sword he’s forming a sword like figure with his venom.

My thing with the Venom Saver IS NOT the fact that he can do it. Him being able to manipulate his venom and give it form, like Kuwabara from Yu Yu Hakusho, sure 🤷🏾♂️. If they flesh it out, I think it could be really cool actually, cause swords are kinda a scarcity in Marvel(not just regular steel, like special ones). It’s just, will he only use it once and never use it again. If so, that’s a waste.
Perhaps if Miles focused on stealth and his cloaking ability and the dark costume, he could be called Shadow Spider so something along those lines....

Don't get me wrong. Miles earned his place as Spider-Man in his ultimate run. It's just really awkward to have two heroes using the same name, and for a brief window there were three! Just wish there was a better solution for this. Heroes need to retire at some point and have the next generation take up the mantle. But the comic companies keep back tracking on these stories and making a mess of it. It's all just chasing money. I don't know what the best solution is, I'm just not big on this one.
@@danielgemas2117 I agree. I honestly think the only time Peter could've REALISTICALLY retired would've been in the clone Saga. It was the perfect time. Now Peter is in a. sort of purgatory where he can't grow, can get with MJ, and Miles can never truly take over for him.

I believe in the original timeline, Bailey was injected with like a hybrid form of spider DNA by Peter in order to save his life of something. It gave him a fairly unique set of spider powers at a young age & Peter winds up taking him on as a protege as a result. He started him out small, only letting him do (LOTS of) training at first before stepping him up to local hoods, then like bank robbers and hijackers, and then eventually the lower tier villains like Batroc and Paste Pot Pete (Or the Trapster) for example, He finally did work his way up to the A-listers though, assisting him with Doc Ock, Green Goblin and the like right before the universe reset.
To be fair "spider-gwen" is actually Ghost Spider.
I feel like a natural evolution for miles is to be able to use his bioelectrical powers to make constructs similar to the Devil May Cry 4 pseudo Devil Trigger that Nero had and also even being able to use it like extra appendages.
Eh, I think giving him 'venom blasts' was a mistake. Like, allowing him to shoot lightning out of his hands, that's just a little bit ridiculous to me, like when Jessica Drew has the power, it's more like an electrically charged ball of poison she just chucking at somebody, or Arane with her psi-webs, it's a telekinetic construct, in both cases the result comes from their abilities and how they interact with their body and thier surroundings. In essence, Drews powers are a result of her body's chemical production combined with her wall clinging ability, and the same for Aracne, it's more a massive expansion of the Spider-sense enhancing all the powers of her mind.
To really work with Miles, I really think you need to build on that, don't let him just shoot lighting from his hands, but make it tactile, an expansion of wall crawling that lets him throw out stun blasts, he could even charge a web-line or something and use it like a laser whip,
I had a friend tell me that we are growin up in a generation where people Spider-Man is Miles Morales and not peter, and I think that very interesting. I know a lot of people who didn’t really become a Spider-Man fan until miles morales step into the pic, and I mean really into the spiderverse.
This is why I like insomniacs Spider-Man stories because you start off with an established Pete and then get to watch as he finds out about Miles and then mentors and trains him and then passes on the torch, it’s a good way to have both Spider-Man in the city and active but also have it set up for one of them to be the main Spider-Man later
Miles is a great character, but he can't separate himself from Pete's shadow. It could work if he had his own city to protect and they had occasional team ups.
Maybe, just maybe....in the Ultimate Spider-Man #1 2024 reboot will be Miles as spider-man.

Pretty sure this is the problem with having multiple people take up the mantle and being too similar. I think they need to name him something else and move him to a different city. I agree. He's the spider kid. But he's very out of place.

But he’s not similar though, even though he’s Spider-Man. He goes through different things, stories and experiences than Peter and fights crime differently than him as well because of his powers.
Him being in the city doesn’t diminish him in the slightest because he mainly operates in Brooklyn, his stomping grounds while Peter does mainland New York.
He’s not Spider-Kid (that’s Bailey unfortunately) he’s Spider-Man and has cemented his place in the greater Marvel universe.
this problem is going to take collaborative work internally. since miles and peter are always near each other, the writers need to be in contact with each other about storylines. they don’t always need to BE together, but i think that when they’re so separate it creates a ‘choose your spiderman’ dynamic. rather than having two separate spiderman stories that exist in the same space, you’re left with 2 spider-man stories that never touch each other, so they might as well be variants of the same character rather than two individuals. of course, bringing them together puts peter in that mentor role which is clearly something marvel hasn’t wanted to do from the start with miles
Exactly. I don’t know how much lower the ratings can get before they realize that retconning and rewriting is not what any sane individual wishes to see . It is like Spider-man writers do not learn from each other and do not read each others works.

Honestly my problem beyond what is mentioned is that they're trying to make him into SUPER SPIDER-MAN! Like they are trying to overcompensate with him or something. With how crazy it's going it's sounding like a playground fight with Spider-Oc's. "This is my Spider-Man and he can zap people unconscious and make zappy webs and a zappy sword. He has like Shadow the Hedgehog chaos blast with zappy powers. He can go invisible too. I'm gonna add speedster speed and hulk strength as well fire powers and cosmic powers it'll be so cool Kevin....Kevin where are you going!"

You know what, I don't actually like the new electricity sword... feels out of place, Miles is a spiderman, when he isn't swinging around he's crawling around so his hands are never fully free, the last thing he needs is a sword that would impede his movement, for a better development of his character what he needs is a suit makeover that detaches him more from the OG and a new place to work, he needs his own stories and not the recycled stories of Peter P.
You've got valid points, but Spider-Gwen is now called Ghost-Spider both in and our universe. Anya Corazaon who was also Spider-Woman went back to her Araña name. Currently Jessica Drew is the only Spider-Woman, i think. Kaine is called Scarlet Spider. Kurt *can* be "Night-Spider", I don't have any good ideas for a name for Miles.
Edit: Also writers could just chalk up his venom blast and venom sword to bio electric charge. Like how in the Naruto franchise, most of the ninjas are limited by the amount of chakra they have it that moment to perform a specific jutsu. They could just make Miles needto "recharge" or rest to perform those abilities. I mean already know he can somewhat absorb and redirect electricity in the game and animated movies (not sure about the comics)
I'm gonna nominate Shadow Spider here since it's been around a couple of times and it's a good play on his dark aesthetics, invisibility powers, and the fact people view Miles as being in Peter Parker's shadow

The thing is Miles doesn't need a new name because he *is* Spider-Man. Like Benny said, for a lot of kids now, Miles is their guy so he doesn't need a new title or he'll seem 'lesser than" to Peter

there's a reason every version of him in recent years is a new backstory, history, logic - cause he's not interesting, there's no where to go in ideas with him cause he's just spider-man...but black and that's not that interesting when u introduce a multiverse
We already have multiples Caps, I know right now Sam and Steve are sharing the name and I am pretty sure a couple of year back we had an miniseries with Steve, Sam and Bucky going around the US recruiting people to use the Cap name and technically some people do think War Machine and Iron Man are the same, but yeah multiple heroes having the same is kinda common, look at DC and the number of Superman or even Batman Inc. or the Fox family Batman in NY, I wonder if they just want to use a hero name to comic instead of creating new names and sometimes costumes for the new heroes.

Is it me or does his new power to make a sword makes him look more like nightcrawler.
Miles had his hands on his sword since April of this year while Nightcrawler had his in the Sons of X one shot that came out in May and only first used it in October of this year.
This must be for the comic book readers. As a cinema nerd I gotta say, I’m aware of the endless amount of Spider-People.
However what makes them different really is there up coming. I grew up with Peter in the 90s but lately I feel I relate to miles better

I was a young black Puerto Rican boy living in New York when miles came out. He should’ve been made for me. But I just feel like I should celebrate him cause of what it means for my community not because I actually like him or think his concept is well done. I liked his suit I liked the look of his lightning but ever since he first came out I couldn’t shake the feeling he was just a wall they were throwing things at to see what would stick.
Give him his own personality, his own villians, his own girlfriend (looking at you Gwen) and his own new SPIDER RELATED powers.
He has those things though? Have you not been ready Cody Ziglar's run? He has his own villains, he has his own problems and stuff going on.

I’m always happy to see Miles get new powers but he needs continuity instead. Never keeps the background cast, experiences, costumes from previous writers and he very rarely links up with Peter which makes it slightly frustrating. The Spiderman 2 game shows you can have two Spidermen in New York and it work really well but I don’t trust the current writers to make it work so perhaps Miles should leave and get his own Bludhaven equivalent so that he can truly grow.
To this day i still think the furthest they should have taken his electricity power is that it acts like a taser and nothing more, no long ranged blasts, no constructs, no webs. Just that he can electrocute what he touches
I don't even mind them having the same villains etc., because they just need to either have him in a separate universe telling miles story instead of Peters story, or have it be a comic for the Amazing Spider Men, both of them
I think the only valid critique of Miles is that he doesn’t have his own shtick. What do I mean by that in referring to the fact that him and Peter fight the same villains and share a supporting cast. I believe Miles powers and personality are diverse enough to set him apart from Peter already and most people who don’t even keep up with comics I do kinda sorta by watching videos from ComicStorian and a few other comic YT channels but my dad who’s almost fifty knows who Miles is. A lot of people younger than me know who Miles is they might vaguely know about the Spider-Man in general being associated with the phrase “With great power comes great responsibility”. Anyway I say all that to say Miles is nearly perfect just give him his own shit instead of rehashing shit we’ve seen with Peter. Like OMG Miles is fighting Carnage? Miles is struggling fighting clones of him I wonder what other Spider-Man had a clone saga? Hmm. Miles is stressing out and his life is getting fucked up because he has to juggle being Spider-Man, school, and at home responsibilities where have I seen that before. I miss the old days when the most Miles had to worry about was holding up the legacy of Spider-Man/fighting his evil Uncle that was very unique and good I think. He had to choose being a superhero over family which I don’t think most people have the strength to make.
Miles does have his own villains and his own supporting cast, though.
He interacting with other characters beyond his bubble is something all superheroes do.

I actually have been kinda sorta being keeping up with Miles I read the clone saga. I forget the chicks name but I remember after the clone saga some chick who just had horrible luck and is mad at the world came after Miles because he won the raffle to go to that school. I also am aware he’s fighting Carnage been recently. My criticism is valid to some extent because the clone saga has been done before and Peter fought Carnage so I’m not completely off base. Now I’m aware Miles has people around him like his girlfriend but she’s the Vulture’s grand daughter so despite her being apart of Miles life she’s literally related to one of Peter’s villains. Other than that the things Miles has done or been doing is slipping my mind or I’m unaware.
Put Miles in Chicago! New environment, new supporting cast, new villains. Still super urban, still plenty of buildings to web sling
miles doesn't need to change city he already has his own villain galleries like Zip zephyr, rabble, quantum, ultimatum
i feel like if he webs up a hilt, it would work and it would be more realistic for his webbing to just be the blade he charges up. He could essentially web craft multiple weapons or utilities. If you think about it, miles is always stumbling into his new abilities. Crafting them and super charging them makes sense.
in this regard i really like the batfamily they really standout from oe another or they are all in different places. batman wants to do everything by him self there no spiderfamily sure peter showed up and says ''with great power comes great responsability'' that's cool and all I don't see peter being a mentor and the spiderman vilans are very boring and one dimensional
the answer is not being dark like batman but make the characters 3 dimensional and let each spider have their own rouges gallery and peter becomes a mentor andnow boom we have many spiderpeople who might understand the with grat power comes great responsibility

I don't think the lightning sword is a problem, cause that's not really a new power, It's just him using his bio electricity in a different way.
My problem is: How is bio electricity a *SPIDER* power? That has always confused me. The camouflage thing makes sense, but how does being able to shoot electricity out of your hands correlate to the abilities of a spider? Look at Miguel O' Hara. He's literally fifty percent spider and he doesn't have a single electric ability that's like the venom blast.
The spiders have been always modified to be stronger or have different characteristics than I normal spiders they are bite by a ratio active spider so miles spider just has different powers added into his powers 🤷🏽♂️
The spider that bit Miles was explained years ago in the comics. It was created by Ultimate Osborne using the dna of (1610) Peter, the dna of a chameleon (camouflage) & the dna of an electric eel (bioelectricity).
(1610) Osborne was also working on a way to make himself immortal & give himself more abilities.

the problem is that, like peter, miles got his powers from a spider bite but some of his powers have nothing to do with spiders. they are there just so he's different than peter.
I still remember that Ben Reilly was given the name scarlet spider because his costume was red (despite having also some blue and a black spider symbol)

Miles has actually grown to use his venom in his fists and he actually did do it in his original run against the venom symbiote when he fought him again. So it’s not like it came out of nowhere.

I still maintained Miles Morales Spider-Man should go back to the ultimate marvel universe but since we are not getting that, I am still intrigue where these new powers are going to take Miles Morales character in the future but until then I am going to hopefully hope for the best and hoping his book keeps doing everything great and keeps on moving forward his character the right way without holding him back like marvel is doing with Peter Parker which has been failing badly at least in my opinion.

I disagree that this is a "good problem to have". It honestly just seems like the writers are throwing darts at a board and going w/ it. Its not about predictable or not, its about quality. Miles' identity is intrinsically tied to Peter. It doesnt matter if kids now a days view Miles as their spidey (boggles my mind considering miles has no quality stories, and its 100% due to the movies), Miles goes only as far as Peter did/does.
Giving him new powers and rehashing old Peter stories to fit Miles only really shows the complete lack of creativity thats been a problem not just at Marvel, but almost all mainstream comics. IMHO, the only way to save Miles is to give him a completely new name (not spiderman), limit/removes some of his extra powers (for example: the more he uses his venom blast, the weaker he gets or he has to move a snails pace to keep his invisibility on), and give him original villains just for him.
Miles needs his own relevant stories, his own relevant gallery of villains, he needs a compelling reason to not work with other spider people.
They should just use ananzi, probably spelled wrong, but its the African trickster God who takes the form of a spider. Perfect villain for miles, could be a good way to drive a wedge between all spider people, gives miles something to deal with that's relevant to his story, could lead to more villains down the road.
I'm not excited about the sword, I don't see how we start at radioactive spider bite and end at lightning sword. The venom blast itself was already a tremendous leap, and I am choosing to overlook invisibility.
Miles has always been Peter parkers shadow, if they are going to promote him as much as they do, he needs his own shit to do, that is thematically relevant to his character.

My 4y/o daughter loves the kids show Spidey and his Amazing Friends, it's essentially PJ Mask but with Peter, Miles and Gwen in the same universe as a team and none of them are "Spider-Man". Peter's alias is Spidey, Gwen's is Ghost Spider and Miles' is Spin and when I showed her into and across the Spider-Verse she called them "Spin, Ghost Spider and old Spidey". Insomniac Really Reinvented Miles Bio Electricity abilities being able to Venom Punch Strong enough to incapacitate Rhino and Damage Giant Sandman but its not only for offensive capabilities but for defensive and Traversal with Venom Dash and Venom Jump and signature Venom Blast a powerful explosion now it's even upgraded futher from Orange to Blue and can literally shoot and chain Lighting together to pull enemies closer or spread the shock to other enemies he pretty much is so op now in the comics he can make a Bio Electricity lightsaber which is something else i heard somewhere he has Bio Electricity Organic Webbing but now he has so much now his possibilities are endless his powers are just something else.

Best way to fix this is
1) change names. The fact that they both go by the name Spiderman is unrealistic when you think about how people tend to want to individualise themselves from others. Coming from a place where we grew up with tag names or nicknames you would never catch someone using the same names. Especially if they are in the same circle. Right now he should start trying to be his own person and step out of Spiderman peter parkers shadow and by coming up with his own name that would be a good step forward.
2) no new powers from his invisibility and venom blast. Right now he's already basically static shock spider. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts emitting hormones that allows him to communicate with spiders or make the hulk make him a sandwich because hormone mind control.. or is that just a woman thing???
3) STOP adding new spidermen
4) get rid of lightning sword. Its actually kind of corny. He's becoming jedi samurai static shock spider guy.
5) start using his current powers better. There is so much he could do in a fight by remembering his invisibility more often. Sometimes im left reading certain fight scenes and im like "why didn't you go invisible there? Could have allowed you to not get grabbed or allow you to get a better hit in or gain the advantage"
6) give him new enemies

However, Marvel will do exactly none of them, because it'd require them to A) actually *think* about what they write & B) stop trying to force him into replacing Peter Parker.
It’s literally just an extension of his venom blasts. Don’t think that’s a problem. Also with his girlfriend being Vultures granddaughter makes sense as she like Miles originate from a character with longer history and are connected.
For me what solidified miles’ powers was his movesets in the insomniac games including spider man 2 . The invisibility, venom punch and venom dash and everything + the new stuff in 2 at least makes him stand out enough for me . Though I’m not sure if miles already does stuff like that in the comics as I don’t really read them but watch some vids of them. Though in this one he only mentioned a venom blast and the venom lightsaber thing and thats it .
What he also forgot to mention is Miles also has bioelectric organic webs that shoot from his fingertips in comics I forgot why he stopped using them

Maybe not limit his new powers to a lightning sword to lightning constructs? Nothing huge on the level of Green Lantern's constructs, but basic things like a sword, or twin escrima sticks, or wings to help him glide like a wing suit (if he doesn't already have one).

I've always had a couple problems with Miles, the most glaring one is that they haven't given him his own name. I understand why he was Spider-Man in the Ultimate universe: he was the only Spider-Man at the time. But now that he's in the same universe as Peter, why does he keep the name while Peter also uses the name Spider-Man? If I say Spider-Man, you don't know who I'm talking about. DC changed this with Robin by slightly changing the name of the other Robin: Tim Drake, into Red Robin. It's not perfect, but it gets the point across.
Love it or hate it, the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon tried to fix this by giving Miles the name Kid-Arachnid. It might have been bad, but it was a solid attempt to differentiate the two. Why not just call Miles Ultimate? It's a nod to the Ultimate Universe where he came from, it establishes him as his own man (not relying on Peter's name for recognition) and it's not too hard to remember, and the comics could still be called the "Ultimate Spider-Man."
Both Oliver Queen and his Son went by Green Arrow in the 90’s and there’s a million Green Lanterns. Tim Drake and Damian are both Robin right now. I don’t think characters sharing names is that big a deal

Back then, pretty much the only Spider-Man in town was just Peter Parker, IIRC, except Miguel O'Hara. We had all the best villains, the best battles. Peter was an adult and not some idiot teenager. He was at his peak and a complete badass. Then came the clones, the spider verse, the 1 billion other spider people, then the DEI Spider-Man Miles.... Too many fucking spider people. It ruins what made him special in the first place, if there are infinite spider people...

when he first debuted, having the invisibility and electric shock powers was already too much - he was supposed to be a spiderman replacement - adding those powers made him inherently less interesting because he got "power ups" to make everything that much easier for him

If you're just talking about reaction and combat speed he and every other character with spider powers are already that fast. If you're talking about travel speed then you've just turned Miles into a speedster that can also stick to walls.

Respectfully, I think Miles’ integration into the Spider-Man universe is fine the way it is. I love Miles Morales Spider-Man, and the different stories that happen.
Honestly, I just think it needs more time to simmer for a more new and creative ways to use miles to arise. Like the spider verse movies, there will be more unique details for him to claim is on identity more and more. The fact is though he is a derivative of the original Spider-Man so that can only go so far.
