Never feel guilty or silly for honoring life! This world needs more people like you.
Non of the spays and herbs will work. You have to eliminate the hole where they are coming in from. I wrote a huge article on different forums on how to mice proof but I will tell you in short where the main opening is. On All vehicles they have what is now obsolete vent opening on the lower front passenger side of the window. It is a fresh air opening. But with modern AC you recycle interior air. This vent opening is huge to allow rodent in. If you remove wipers and the grill you will see the huge opening on passenger side. If you look at the vent filter around the glove compartment, you will see mice nest. On all my vehicles I used wire mesh and foam to seal the hole tight. Until you do so, they will come in. Especially in winter.
I live in the country and also have a no-kill approach to dealing with pesky critters. When you take death off the table it forces you to come up with real solutions. In our vehicles we are using Rid-a-Rat, itâs a small box that adheres to your vehicle with magnets and emits a tiny blinking light that rodents find annoying. It needs new batteries about every six months. For a van you might want to put one in the engine compartment and one underneath.
That third mouse was probably back in your van faster than you could quit screamingâŠhaha. Once you get enough mice invading your space, you patience and kindness will wear thinâŠ
Never a dull moment when mice come to visit. Party time for them and headache for you all when catch and release goes so well. Lol
Great job Maddie and friends.
Mice are so much fun! I live out in the boonies and mice are a constant reality in my home and vehicles. The live traps work well for catching them as long as you wash them often to remove sent. Once you are confident they are gone use peppermint oil and mix the oil in a spray bottle with water and spray all over your engine compartment every week and where ever else they might get into. Peppermint works the best is non toxic and smells like Christmas so it a win win. Have fun!
*scent
I had a Subaru Forester that mice built nests in the heater in front and in the back by the spare tire! I had to rip almost the whole dashboard out of it to get rid of that nest! The pee smell was horrible, and feces everywhere! It was so bad driving it , that my eyes would water from the pee smell! I'm glad i sold that vehicle! I cannot stand mice! I gaurantee you won't be so accepting of them when you smell strong pee odors and have mice terds all over your whole van! LOL!!
why did God create mice, rats, mosquitoes, ticks, leeches, parasites, cockroaches?
(if you're an atheist.. you'll say "oh no.. .Evolution did that!" which also makes zero sense. the world would carry on just fine without them if they never existed)
;)
Lol I'm w/ you, Rats are actually cleaner?? But, I'm wondering why they are coming above ground 2021.. was horrible! River Rats ,I live by a waterfall/ dam.
@@MadzHere75 eww. rats.
The chance of disease is a concern too.
You have probably researched this already ⊠but make sure you investigate the repellants (even all natural) for safety around your pupper. For example: clove oil can be toxic to dogs. đ
I was also going to mention the risk that some "safe/natural" oils can be toxic to pets. đ„ș
I am grateful for my two cats in my van! Spray those scents on your tires and wheel wells-all around the outside of the van too! Cedar wood oil is also a good one. đ
Youâre such a good soul. Donât apologize for being compassionate. The world will be a much better place if everyone would respect animals.
@@chantico2543 : The world would really be a better place if we learn how to respect other human beings.
@@HJKelley47 Absolutely
I love how thoughtful you all are. Miss you dearly and love how hard you three worked to return them safely. Also Tori is so funny âour mice are built differentâ
I loved this video. I had a smile throughout and lol'd many times! The Maddie and friends' mouse saga will live on forever in van life lore, lol!
I love your perspective on learning and loving all...travel, nature and animals (including mice). You have a good heart&soul, Maddie! Hi to S&T...such great travel buds!
Haven't watched quite yet but gonna tell ya quick little story. Many decades ago I had a few mice in my house. The neighbor lady was over for a visit one day when I mentioned said mice. She looked around at my storage and somewhat lacking housekeeping skills and said "It's no wonder you got mice, you are FEEDING THEM". Lol,she was right. Pest proof ALL food stores AND all garbage and even if you can't quite trap them all you will starve them out.
Of all the van life adventures this one was my fave đđđ
I love your videos. Thanks for taking such good care of these little creatures.
So happy these mice were lucky enough to find such a caring soul as you Maddie! One thing I had to do was not leave food out anywhere, including my dogs food. Nightly I had a ritual of spraying Dr. Bronners Peppermint oil soap mixed in water each night all around my wheel wells and underneath the van. I only ever cooked outside as mine was a âno buildâ Van. Having lived in the tropics for 20 years I already knew the dangers of rodent diseases they carry. Careful with full strength essential oils around Liza as they can be fatal. Huge hugs and happy travels â€â€â€
Have you thought that the mice might not be living in your van but youâre just transporting mice from one area to another đ€Ł
Maddie the mouse chauffeur đ
@@Maddie.taylor Exactly. But they're getting on the bus and not leaving.
đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł 11:00 thatâs me when my cat brings a live mouse in the house and Iâm trying to carefully release it myself outside. Scary times đ€Ł
Love your channel, Maddie Taylor. I have been watching all your films.
Appreciate your personality. I refrain from putting my feelings into words, for it might embarrass you. I can see you, for what you really are. I can see your true colours shining through.
You are not a van lifer, nor a nomad, like you sometimes say, rather a majestic princess.
Wonder if I am not the only one.
Miss your poetry, insights and nature talking book sessions.
Maddie... check your 12volt wires. That's where they got me a few years ago. They sometimes will eat the wire cover and when two of the wires cross you have a short. OH yes, clean the trap with rubbing alcohol to get rid of scent. Tom
The foggy forest film is mindblowingly gorgeous! Incredible that you're living this life, Mads. I'm soo glad that you got the cutest lil mouses out of your home and you were so sweet and considerate of their wellbeing throughout the process. Which ofc, that's who you are. Miss and love youuuuuuuu
đŠI will be buying all the things you mentioned and putting them in my car where I will be spending a week while I visit family up north! Thank you for sharing this! Iâm sending you love, sisterđŠ
Iâve rescued mice the same way! Lol!
My friends tease me all the time about all the animals I rescue in a dayâŠđ
Squirrels, birds, crickets, etc.đ
Thanks for your honest postsâ€
I love you for taking so much care of our fellow sentients
It's our DUTY to RESPECT & PROTECT, Mother Earth, and ALL her children. On behafe of these beautiful creatures....Thank you! âđŒâ€ïžđ±
I hope you have really thoroughly checked the van inside and out to find the nest, clear it out and check for damage. Very important. They can climb every surface in there. If you didnt find the nest, keep looking.
You are such a neat young lady. I love all your adventures and your attitude. Thank you for being so kind to animals.
you got me dying laughing about the teleporting mouse đ€Łbut omg FIVE MICE were in your van??? now i know why some van lifers travel with cats đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
I love watching all your adventures - your compassion and intention with everything you do is inspiring. Thank you for your videos!! The Oregon Coast is magic. The Mojave Preserve is really beautiful in the winter if you plan on coming south :)
I would suggest cut up some Irish Spring soap . Spread around van. Will not take much. They don't like smell. This time of year looking for winter warm home.
In fact, I envy you for the atmosphere in which you live, the beauty of nature, the splendor of the weather and the beautiful scenery of forests . Which takes us to a world full of liveliness, innocence and optimism. You are beautiful and your friends are also very loyal and loyal. Warm greetings to you and your friends
I've followed your channel for a few months, but I gotta say this was absolutely your best episode! You went from being a mouse mom to freaking out in seconds, which just proves even the most compassionate girls get freaked out with little wild rodents! I do hope you have no more unwanted visitors though, and I definitely, respectfully differ on the Beyond products! They're beyond yuck! Give me the real thing! Lol
So entertaining. I am sure those mice are spreading their story of their encounter with there lovely humansđ
Get a pet snake. It's the circle of life. Potato skins aren't trash. If you wash you're potatoes you could make potato skins. Mmmm
You guys are the BEST. Wish all humans were this compassionate. Hugs! xx
Aww Maddie. You are so kind and compassionate to these little creatures. I wouldn't have been able to handle mice in my space, much less in a van. I would have completely freaked and called an exterminator lol. They look sweet in the box together though
I am afraid of mice so I would NOT be able to sleep if they were in my van, home, etc.
I truly admire your being so brave catching them while wanting to save their lives and keep the family together. đ„°
Just be careful because they do carry germs.
you are sitting in the same spot I bet they are the same two mice playing with you and coming back for the delicious penut butter đ
Hopefully you can find where they are coming in. Looks like you guys are having fun even with mice. đ
Omg! I would have freaked out all night knowing a family of mice were dwelling with me. Itâs very kind of you to want to do the right thing and release them back to their surroundings. I must admit they were some cuties but Iâm so afraid of them!!!! My grandma used to tell me when I was a child that mice are more afraid of me. đđ itâs funny thinking of what wild stories the mice will tell their loved ones. They will probably tell them about good food and water and a warm cozy bedding đ„°đ„°.
Maddie sweetie, the way you screeched when you were letting mouse 3 loose, he probably thought you were a big owl coming to eat him. đ€ŁWay to traumatize the poor mouse. đ€Ł BIG HUGS for the human owl though! â€
I've had my share of destructive encounters with mice, they can wreck a van quickly. I have no sympathy for them when the trap goes snap.
I caught 3 mouse with these traps, these traps are really good. I have been watching your videos for a long time now and your voice is so calm, i just love your videos.
So pleased you and your friends actually sorted out the mouse problem in the end, and your just like me when it comes to animals soft, even with wild mice đ. But at least you girls are back on your way, good luck for the rest of your travels. âșïžđŹđ§â
So happy to see you are just like me when it comes to animals. Wish more people were. I, too, have had many interesting stories with mice, pack rats, etc.
Just curious, have you looked into mouse proofing your van? Sealing small entry points etc. I think I heard you say you spent a considerable sum to repair previous rodent damage before. Electrical is expensive, also plumbing. Good luck in the future!
Thank you for treating those lil guys humanely!
Yall are just so funny when you released that mouse at night. Such compassion for some of God's smallest animals. Anyway thanks too the three of you for a cool video and have a wonderful weekend. Peace out
Love your videos Maddie, you are a joy to watch đ„° could completely understand your morals regarding the mouse situation. All that compassion will come back to you đ
Do you think that you could put the rosemary, peppermint and cloves into installation as you built a van? Would that work? đ€·ââïž have a great week xx
What a ride the last few weeks - at least you are an expert on this now - yea? Tough dealing with it, but glad that things seemed to work in out in the end. Keeping good thoughts that you do not have to deal with any more (at least for a long while).
Good instructions for dealing with them (especially when they seemed to get the peanut butter and not set off the trap at first). Hope your travels continue a little less uneventful the the mouse department.
You darling girl. Putting them back in their environment is the best but afar enough they do not go back to your van. They do not survive in alien environments miles away so well done. You are a darling. Xx
I'm surprised you didn't mention how you think they may be getting in. Please update us on this!
I was going to ask that too!
Hello their what a video. After putting on my thinking cap on why van lifers are getting mice and I conclude itâs the exhaust tube on the diesel heaters for their entry point.
Just a thought to install a open/close flap or clog it up until your about to use the heater. Try it and see if it helps.
How you manage to do a video on mice and make fun to watch...my favorite part was the screams and laughter...you are amazing!!!
When she said The two friends went back to thier van to make some avocado toast I died
Why?
I saw another video the guy put simple stick on motion lights under his van. light comes on scare the critters away plus anything else moving out there. Seem to work! Good video made me laugh. I was screening with you wen mouse jumped out. Happy travels young ladies
Thank you for being kind to animals xxoo
We always get mice in our house as soon as the weather turns cold. And we have a cat đ€Šđ»ââïž so itâs been very hard for us to catch the mice if he catches them first. You should have seen me the other night. I was following my cat around the house with a bowl. Waiting for him to drop it so I could catch it under the bowl đ poor mousie. So we slid cardboard under the bowl and released him outside. But I feel your pain with have a mouse infestation đ«
So close to 100,000 subscribers!! đđđ
I love your little friends Pic in your headline intro.
Lights, lights, lightst!!! We live in the Arizona đ”desert and there are tons of pack rats that live and build nest using prickly pear and cholla buds. They will often get into the engine of your car and do all sorts of damage. We finally got a device called "Rid-a-Rat" that was designed by someone that lives here in Arizona. It's intermitting light that flashes. It connects to your battery and uses very little voltage so that it doesn't drain your battery. Anyway we have it on all of our vehicles and haven't had any problems. It's so worth spending the money on this device, as it will cost so much more on damages. Namasteđđ§đœâ€
All those mice are now regaling their fellow mice with their alien abduction stories.đ But I do have to say it grossed me out to see the mouse trap sitting on your kitchen counter. I hope you boiled it in Clorox afterwards!
I just threw the whole thing in a tub of bleach đ (jk but only kinda)
When I had a mouse in my room, I used some dog kibble. Caught it that night lol :-) I think mice are adorable.. Little adorable stinkers lol
This relaxed me so much I colored and watched you video it helps me greatly I suffer from ptsd and anxiety attacks. I love you and El so much and we never met . I feel like your such a beautiful person â€
Did you consider that the peanut butter was actually drawing *new* mice into your van? They're obviously able to get in easily enough. After 2 days of not catching any, that was your cue to move on. đ
Very wise to be weary of the diseases that mice can carry. I had Hanta virus many years ago - darn near died from it!
woah so many mice!!... off topic but, I cannot not say this, that red lab in the bloops looks like Bodhi! haha
Bless your animal loving soul. đđ±
100% on the compassion. We cause too much destruction as it is. We believe so much in our inflated sense of importance that killing anything we deem inferior is broadly acceptable. It isn't. Pandemic lockdowns saw an incredible decrease in the greenhouse gases we as a species produce. Also, the animal kingdom benefited as, for example, turtles returned to beaches as tourists retreated, and rivers such as the Ganges saw a substantial increase in marine life. Some people need to learn the art of humility and respect for life - all life. Before it's too late. We are all curators of this incredible planet. Or at least, we should be.
Any idea how they got inside? I've found cardinals, green jays, and a turtle dove in my vans, but they all came-in through the sliding doors when I left them open. Thankfully they were only visiting.
The mouse chronicles live on to another field day. Well done! I hope they didn't have babies in either van.
Happy Thanksgiving đ¶
Hi once again Maddie. Well the basic reply to this video can be summed up in 3 words. Wait for it...WAIT FOR IT...OH HELL NO! Lol đ. Mice and more than just one freak me out. But anywho thank you for another great video. Take care of yourself and your amazing Eliza stay safe and happy travels always...JP
aww the little guy at 15:56 was actually cute very timid. but omg i can't have them in my house lol
I lived on a farm, and when the crops come down millions of mice come out. There is a rectangular trap with a one way opening, it is large enough to catch many mice at a time. Mice like to go in small round openings. Most farm stores carry this kind. When the mouse got out and all the screaming, oh it was priceless..
live and let live. thank you
Iâd love to see what products you bought to deter them. Iâm worried about getting them myself
That was funny Tori said many mouses đđđ
You need to find and fix ann areas where they are coming in and get lights to put under your can engine area to deter themâŠand i would recommend finding closed containers that mocr cant get into to store your food, because before you even know you have them, they have climbed over your food
I had a rat in my house one time. It was way too smart for the live trap - I tried the one like you got. I finally got one of those Pestacators, and it left. I was between cats, or else it would never have come in. I had no desire to kill it, or torture it to death with poison, or that sticky stuff.
I use an ultrasonic device to keep mice away from my meanwhile stationary caravan in the Rhine Valley in Germany. So I haven't to kill any mouse, they just keep away. In fact I use three devices for this small room, but it works well! Men cannot hear this sound, neither dogs, cats or larger animals in the forest. Only mice, and rats I think. Of course the batteries have to be replaced after a few month.
Before we started to use these devices amounts of mice had conquered the whole caravan in the weeks of our absence, had destroyed our food packages and some blankets, which they had used to build a nest for winter. And everywhere we found their excretions. It was really horrible and took a long while until we had everything cleaned up. Since then, additionally to installing the ultrasonic devices, we keep all our stocks in glasses and sturdy plastic containers.
Wish you much success!
So funny! I released my pack rats down by a local creek the same morning I caught them. One day I waited until noon and the desert sun killed him. I like your idea about scented oils. Please do a follow up.
I respect all living things, I'll even capture or entice Flys to put back outside, same goes for other insects and bugs.
Moth Balls, Essential Peppermint Oil everynite, whene leaving your Van for days or wks remove all foods vaccum cracks and sanitizing.
Now keeping MICE thats a whole nother Kettle of Fish.
You have a very very very Beautiful Personality, in all of your Videos Maddie đ„°đ„°đ„°đ„°đ„°đ„°đ„°đ„°đ„°đ„°đ„°đ„°đ„°đ„°đ„°â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
Admirable âïžđ
This made me so uncomfortable. They are my biggest phobia. I don't want them to suffer, but don't want to see them, either, or ever hear them, or ever see any evidence. Just want them FAR AWAY FROM ME.
Thanks for caring for the mice
Ohhh... while I generally don't really balk at using regular snap traps, poison and sticky traps are methods I refuse to use- those two are pretty cruel AND have potential severe dangers to other animals đ€ź poison especially! (I'm sure you already now though! * also, I love that you went back to where you think they are from!
so nice
Go to the hardware store and get yourself a roll of window screen mesh. And cover all of your ventilation holes under your van.
adopt it!!!!
What do you do if you make too much food and have leftovers? How does it all work in your fridge and how often would you say you end up actually eating the leftovers you cooked?
Peppermint or rosemary essential oilâs work great!
I'm glad you caught all the mice let them go in the woods it was nice of to do that Maddie Taylor
That was a great mouse hunt! Hopefully youâre now mice free!đđđđđđŒ
Another van lifer said that if you turn your music on super loud and just leave it on for an hour they will leave
Do a video on what you bot & where you place & spray. Show us under the hood!
You are a good person! :-)
Some claim Irish Spring soap repels mice.
