yeah, used to work in the Wendys in Leeds in the 90s. Worked in the donnie restaurant for a day. It had 2 customers all day! Not surprised in closed down.
Another good video mate. The wall behind the ordering kiosks reminded me of the gameshow Blockbusters #IYKYK Btw there's still a few Wimpy's about with one nog so far from Leeds in Huddersfield town centre! 😊👍
Wendys is one of my fave treats when on hols in the US. Well pleased to find out theres several in East Anglia - one in Colchester, one at Brampton Services near Huntingdon & one in Peterborough. Now I can get a Daves Double fix any time.
Ah, I didn’t know, that’s down the bottom of the A14, then. I moved from East Northants and am in South Northants. I don’t go down the A1 to London anymore, but the M1. It’s probably why I’ve not noticed them!
I tried a Wendy's a few months ago when I was in London. It was okay, but nothing to write to home about. Did however have one in my local high street in the late 90s, when I was in my teens. My brother and I loved the milkshakes! They were quite runny but, as Danny say, "full of flavour"! I now live near a Wimpy which is also another childhood staple. And one that I can share with my parents as it came into being during their childhoods!
The thing about this is that it's not a milkshake. It's called a 'Frosty' and there's only one flavor of Frosty... chocolate. I can get why people are confused, but it's not a milkshake by any means. It's soft-serve chocolate ice cream.
OK, Danny, When I want burger and chips, I go to my local farm shop the Springhead at Mount Tabor, it is 3 miles north west of Halifax. Delicious freshly made burgers from their own farm and proper chips made from freshly cut potatoes, they serve John Willie Lees fine ales too. It is well worth a visit.
Never had Wendys in the 80s but LOVED Wimpys. I always remember Wimpys being reasonably priced too. Speaking of the 80s 5:17 - that wall reminded me of the gameshow Blockbusters.
I had one for the first time in many years recently, the taste is definitely still there, there's just something about those brown buns! However, they're no longer that cheap, unfortunately. TBF nowhere is really cheap anymore, but i was a little taken back at a 1/4 pound burger meal being not far off £15
I remember the old Wendy’s in Leeds, and I’m sure there was also one in Bradford. Must admit it was a real treat when I got to go there as the Mrs wasn’t keen, but I loved the burgers 🤤
I grew up in Canada and we didn't have Wendy's in our town for the longest time. When we finally got one , the lineups were ridiculous. I still eat at Wendy's from time to time. If you ever come across an A&W in your travels, it's definitely worth a stop.
Danny the chocolate is called a "Frosty". It is kind of a cross between a thick milkshake and Ice cream. My husband and I like to take our grandchildren to get a Frosty.
Hi Danny. Another great video. I used to live in Birmingham and in fact you visited a restaurant 1/2 a mile from our house at Munchbox, Kingstanding. But last year my American wife and I moved to Indianapolis and so Wendy's is about every half a mile on the various roads by our house. Most fast food here is done as drive through, and our local is open to late. We love the Baconator and have to say that the UK one looked quite small compared to the monster we get but I was surprised by how cheap your meal was. Its REALLY expensive over here. The selection is slightly different for breakfasts here. However most of it looked the same on the screen you were using. I have to say I really love Wendys and its far better than McD's and to some extent Burger King. We have SO many to choose from that next time you are in the US you should do a single "street" and see how many kinds of food you can try!
I'm not british or even english speaking for that matter, but this man is just so wholesome and an absolute great human being. This is the greatest food reviewer i've ever came across on the YT
Ah, most of the commentators are spring chickens like you Dan. Wendy's started up in UK in 1969, I went to the one in Hammonds (massive dept. store in Hull) for my 10th birthday, with my dad. In them days it were burger or hotdog wi chips or chips, and you could have brown or red sauce. If you'd offered them chilli they'd have run a flippin' mile, but I'll tell you what; the burgers WERE square, square as t'old customers. 🤣Nice one Danny! ⭐👍
I am afraid you are wrong about Wendy’s in the UK in 1969 the first one opened in Ohio in November of 1969,they opened in the UK in 1980-1986,then again in 1992-2000,and again in 2022,and like you I’m not a spring chicken.😊😊
If you love a good peppery burger and you're ever in western Kentucky, come to Calvert Drive-Inn movie theater. Get a double cheese with extra black pepper(didn't have to say extra black pepper 20 years ago, people became blander). It's one of the top 3 burgers within a 250 mile radius!
Great to see Wendy’s again - needs to open up a branch in Glasgow. I always loved Wendy’s when they were in UK. Last one I had was in Kuala Lumpur. Many thanks.
I remember having a Wendy's in Leeds in around 1995. Looks to be roughly in the same place, opposite the Old Odeon Cinema. It was quite nice. Only one I had but I remember them being square and then they suddenly vanished. Happy days! Might have to check this out again in 2025!
Wimpys still exist in some places, if you ever fancy a trip to Essex, there are 2 in Southend. I like to go for the nostalgia, loved them growing up in Bristol
Danny, you mentioned Wimpy in the video towards the start at 1:36. I've been to Wimpy, my nearest one being Milford, Stafford in the West Midlands. Was very good when I went for the very first time. Never been to a Wendy's though
so great to see you trying wendys. tried it back in states. we got near my place and it tasty as the one in the states. but the prices is a bit higher then us. Wish there was more saver meals. Love those chill corn cane alson known as dirty fires . the jacket potato was nicee but same its not $1 or 89c like in usa
I actually had a Wimpy for the first time in many years the other day, still as amazing as ever, although i did get caught off guard as i forgot it was table service lol. I will say, while it still tasted amazing, much like everything else, the price has shot up! Still not tried Wendys yet as there's none too near me, so interesting to see Dannys thoughts on it.
@@howardbeatman2820 The funny thing is, i think a lot of us Brits think of Wimpy as being British, due to them serving your burgers and chips on a real plate, with real cutlery and being bought to your table, assuming you eat in of course, and that combined with them being around for a long time, means myself and most people i know just think of them as British. However, when you look it up, they're apparently American, even though most Americans don't seem to have heard of them.
you are spot on for the burgers in the chili, any burgers that dont sell during their time on the grill, get crumbled and added to the next batch of chili
@sandrojones8068 I think so but I don't remember seeing fries covered in chili on the menue. Seems like might be more of a UK thing. When I was still a teenager I worked at a Wendys. What Danny said about the chili being made from ground up old burgers is very true.
We've had it back in London for a while, and as someone with American partner so had it a lot in the states I was very excited. I think it fills that gap that Burger King used to be before they only appeared at train stations and was expensively disaspointing, not quite as expensive as the proper burger casual restaurants like GBK or even five guys but a tad better than McDonalds and more fill.
Same location on Briggate in Leeds as it was in the 1990's. Was always the best burger chain for me. One of the best things was the salad bar, don't seem to have that anymore which is a shame.
Here in the USA Wendy's are pretty decent, Id always rate them better than Mc D and Burger King, they never make me happy, very over priced and always wish Id never stopped to eat there. Wendy's fries and burgers are usually good, the chicken is decent but your's looked thinner, The chicken burger prices seemed a bit higher, My wife always gets a cup of Chili on the side and loves it, Ours until recent was only 99 cents, so £4 looks spendy to us... I dislike the screen ordering as everyone touches them then uses those fingers to eat with, not a good idea in this day and age, I wonder how these places can think that's OK, I order from a person, if its screen only I leave. Your score was fair, thanks Danny.
"Infamous?" is it infamous? The Wendy's in Lincoln had good experiences there. Delivered completely fresh hot, well served, and even very politely by whoever was serving "Sorry about the wait" like, thanks but this was quicker than anything I've had from BK or KFC or any other chain.
Infamous to me is that Wendy's got gutted by a TV programme where their freezers filled with cancerous horse carcasses were featured. I seem to be the only person who remembers this. The same team went on to try & bring down Walls' sausages though I can't recall the precise reason.
Cant see any chain burger place can deserving a 9 out of 10. The burgers are always overcooked. Had Wendy's once in the USA and wasn't impressed it was just the same as McDonald's and Burger King.
My mate in Bristol turned me on to the Pub Burger from Wendy's a few years ago. Good burger. Hopefully you have one here. Paul also turned me on to your channel. You're looking good lately. Whatever you're doing, keep it up.
Is Danny reviewing franchised chains now? This week Wendy's next week McDonald's 😝 If this is a new theme, then try to find a Wimpy. There are only 62 Wimpy franchisees left in the UK and I think most of them are down south; I have 3 of them within a short (10 to 15 minutes) driving distance. I think we have all fallen victim to these mass produce chains and I must admit, those burgers made me feel seriously damn hungry. Thick ice-cream in a cup is not a drink!
i only ever had WENDY'S from the one that was in waterloo train station, back in the 80s when i was skateboarding around london with the guys. :-) would love to see them come back. also if you want a wimpy, there is one in cheshunt old pond. bin the same family over 50 years.
As an American, I guarantee it's not the norm to dip our french fries in the chocolate drink which is called a 'Frosty'. In all, Wendy's does have one of the better fast food and cheap hamburgers.
I'd like to see more kiosk type ordering in America. The minimum wage for the idiots working there is $16.28. The workers act like this is their lifetime job and are as arrogant as you've ever seen. I dont do fast food in the winter trying not to get sick from the workers breathing on everything. And yes, every order is screwed up in some way.
You would be smart to check your facts before you run your mouth. The 2024 minimum wage for Washington State in 2024 is in fact $16.28 per hour. Keep running your face.@@handsoffmycactus2958

You really are sad to have an issue with him reviewing a chicken burger. Funny how you don't comment on other video's where he doesn't review chicken burgers.
Credibility falling faster than a flying crowbar. 9/10 for a 21 quid meal at Wendy's?? No way to justify the price or the bottom-of-the-barrel ingredients.
Only been watching this 90s and had to watch I loved Wendy’s they were my favourite in the 80’s not had one in decades I hope they come to my part of London
I think the same thing happened in Germany. I remember a Wendy's close-ish to where I grew up, and at some point before the 90s it was gone and replaced by a Pizza Hut. They're still one of my favorite fall-backs in the US.
I worked at a Wendys in the early 80s when I was in uni. Wendy's was a franchise of Whitbreads and every now and again, senior people from the States would come over to check the standards in each store - they were all stereotypical senior execs with crew cuts and moustaches. Regardless of what you think of fast food, standards were kept really high. The food was prepped fresh everyday - all salad bar items, burgers were pressed, bacon cooked on the grill and buns put into warmers. The square burgers come out of the pressing machine that shape and were cooked pretty much fresh to order on a cast-oron grill. I can still remember the order for assembling a burger; mayo on the bottom bun, lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup on the top bun and mustard on the burger! It's how I do them still. Danny's right about the chilli which is made from overcooked burgers which are recooked into the chilli (which really makes sense). Profit was always an issue for Whitbreads and the food costs were pretty high - I think staff were literally eating the profits. Had a great time working there!
Oh wow I didn't realise Wendy had been UK wide before, I only remember (and feel like I hear people talking about) Wimpy as the big former chain. One opened near me last year but I hadn't even considered trying it
Five Guys Company are popping up Wendy's all over Yorkshire on my travels, got one open in Hull already when visiting family taking over papas fish & Chips shops, which you did an review on not long a go, Danny

Loving the food reviews and videos
I need to try more places and travel
Camera Man have any food? X
Not had a Wendy's in years and didn't know they came back to Leeds. Will definitely drop in for the classic. :)
"Infamous?" is it infamous? The Wendy's in Lincoln had good experiences there. Delivered completely fresh hot, well served, and even very politely by whoever was serving "Sorry about the wait" like, thanks but this was quicker than anything I've had from BK or KFC or any other chain.
infamously high prices I imagine, the burgers are about 2 times the price of any other place.
Don't you think that "the burgers are always overcooked", for EVERY place EVERYWHERE, might be a bit of an uneducated generalisation?
@@garlichr uneducated ? What have you got a phd from burger university.
I like the Dave’s Burgers because they make it like you would have it at home, with the lettuce, mayo, and tomato.
My mate in Bristol turned me on to the Pub Burger from Wendy's a few years ago. Good burger. Hopefully you have one here. Paul also turned me on to your channel. You're looking good lately. Whatever you're doing, keep it up.
Treat yourself to Daves Double burger Danny. So much better than most fast food burgers
Love this guy
Infamous means famous for doing something bad 😂😂
'With negative connotation' ...😉
I work at wendys. The chilli cheese fries are honestly one of the best on the menu.
Wendy's chilli is amazing
Good to see you check out Wendys there we have one here in Stratford London too & theres a few Wimpy bars still about too Danny
“Noooo it’ll turn round…”
🤣🤣🤣
As an American, I guarantee it's not the norm to dip our french fries in the chocolate drink which is called a 'Frosty'. In all, Wendy's does have one of the better fast food and cheap hamburgers.
As an a american, i guarantee it is 😂. Everyone does it lmao
cheap? they are like double the price of most other burger places lol
The federal minimum wage is $7.25. Many individual states have their own set minimum wage, it varies. There is no minimum of $16.28.
You would be smart to check your facts before you run your mouth. The 2024 minimum wage for Washington State in 2024 is in fact $16.28 per hour. Keep running your face.@@handsoffmycactus2958
I'm glad you came on to correct me. I'm here in Washington State in fact the minimum wage is $16.28 for 2024. Thank you very much for being the lackadaisical fact checker. @@handsoffmycactus2958

Wow me too 😊
Latifs inspired is great!
8:59 table set up at Wendys.
11:17 £21 food displayed.
13:12 whistle wetted.
21:26 the rating.
Yaaaaawwwwwwnnnnnnn
@@kievb8221 - If the timestamps aren't relevant to you, just ignore the comment. Why hassle the person for making them? 😂
As always great review. That’s a chocolate Frosty they are great. Here in the states our Wendy’s are not that great but yours looks great
Top vid from a top bloke. Did you say the meat in the baconizer was flame broiled? Out my way in Canada they don’t do it that way but I wish they did.
Rate My chicken burger returns!
Are you an expert like stick to heavy metal
Wendy's weren't everywhere in the 80s/90s.
But they were in the UK,if not everywhere.
What magnificent physical specimens!
Called to a few of your food reviews…. And their shit or never got what you want…. They only do it perfectly cos ya videoing 65% or SHIT
Reviews any old 💩 now
Only been watching this 90s and had to watch I loved Wendy’s they were my favourite in the 80’s not had one in decades I hope they come to my part of London
Do some research, and score properly.
Also learn what infamous means.wait for the hats.
I think the same thing happened in Germany. I remember a Wendy's close-ish to where I grew up, and at some point before the 90s it was gone and replaced by a Pizza Hut. They're still one of my favorite fall-backs in the US.
The ole bird just sets her tea down and goes at that selfie...lol
Great video and thought last guy was Will Poulter
Backs up what I was saying in other comments where people said they were not in the UK. They certainly were and were better than McDonalds by miles
Trust Danny to bring his own table despite there being loads of free ones in Wendy’s 😂
Man of the people
what a good man .
£15 at the start £20-£25 at the end, inflation out of control UK lol.... always great vids. Hello from S.E.A.
When I was a kid my big cousin worked at one, and I used to get free milkshakes. Wendy’s is classic.
Wendys in the States calls it a Frosty dairy dessert, probably not allowed to call it ice cream due to the ingredients.
