I find the HDI very inaccuate, if you just compare the single indices with each other eg. Austria does better than Germany when it comes to GDP per capita and life expectancy but yet they are way below Germany in the rankings. The reason for that is the education index but from what I've researched there isnt a big difference in literacy rate as well as in the expected years of schooling. I think the HDI has a lot of holes and needs a huge update in order to be somehow informative.

Here is the best way to measure standard of living: Have children from different countries swap children every 3 years. Like live 3 years in Iran, 3 years in Russia, 3 years in Sweden, 3 years in America, 3 years in Japan, etc... Then after their schooling measure where people go - this is the only true way of measuring standard of living.
Here is another good way: place chips inside people that measure brain chemicals associated with stress and unhappiness, and brain chemicals associated with elation.

I disagree with this video placing the blame on citizens. Yes, of course, we should cut back on things like buying more than one car/phone just because we want them. But what about when you need them? What about when your phone stops working? When your car faces irreparable damage? When your current car/phone no longer suffices you have to buy a new one. And many people simply cannot afford to live without a car and a phone. A cell phone is many people's only line of communication, and a car is many people's only means of transportation. These people shouldn't be blamed for "ruining the planet". The cause of that problem is neither the consumers nor the products themselves. The problem is caused by manufacturers not using reusable materials and not reusing materials from discarded products. If we made everything with recyclable and reusable materials, we could just take them apart after they're discarded and use the parts to make something else. There would be no more waste (edit: sorry if my explanation is unclear, I am not very good with words)
your problem with cars is literally solved instantly by proper public transit, biking, and walking
@@sahirde That's true, but that's not the point of my comment. My point is that regular citizens are not to blame for most of our environmental issues. Those solutions you mentioned are all things that have to be implemented by the government. Individual citizens are not responsible for making that happen, and individual citizens are not to blame for the lack of those options.

@@aparajitakazi8950 ok, I see. I'd agree that the government should have more responsibility than the citizens, but I think private Corporation are an even bigger issue, making more waste than any person or country full of people could ever imagine.
