The Black Númenóreans of Middle-earth

  • The Black Númenóreans are Men of Westernesse who fell into service and thralldom of Sauron, going from King’s Men to what they became later: evil and twisted. In Tolkien’s Middle-earth, they serve the Dark Lord for power, juxtaposing the Men of the West who seek freedom and liberation. Thank you all so much for watching, let me know your thoughts about the Black Númenóreans in the comments below! As always, a great thanks to the online artists whose visual works made this video possible! If you are one of the artists, please let me know and I will post your name and a link to your work in this description!

    I'm saying it right now: Agandaur would've fit perfectly in Middle Earth canon. Maybe reduce the magic usage or say that he was taught by the Witch King as an excuse for him to use his powers. I like lotr War in the North because it gave a black numenoreans the villain spotline.

      So true personally if fits into the canon lore very well mentioning important facts from the books themselves as well as characters I know most tolkieniens might not see it as canon but in my heart the events of that great game are canon in Tolkien’s works!

      @@jesuscoyt-munoz2753 For me, it's not canon, but there's no harm in "pretending" it's canon either. It fits well into the background of the story and doesn't contradict any core history or lore concepts, unlike Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War. I enjoy them as games, and there's some interesting ideas explored, but so much flies in the face of and subverts either established lore facts or the spirit of what various characters like Shelob are designed to represent.

    Great video as usual.
    I think that it is likely that Black Númenoreans not only fought at the Dagorlad and Siege of Barad Dûr during the War of the Last Alliance, but also (together with the Nine) would likely have been commanders of the other "wicked men" present such as the Easterlings of Rhûn.
    The Black Númenoreans were corrupted by and loyal to Sauron whereas the Easterlings fell to darkness under the sway of Morgoth and were loyal to him. Given that the Easterlings joined Morgoth under a cloud of betrayal in the First Age, they had proven themselves untrustworthy. I suspect that Sauron would have had much more faith in the loyalty and power of his Black Númenoreans than to allow the Easterlings to be led by their own commanders.

    • @tid06

    Thank you to Connor Ross for correcting an error of mine! Eldacar is the grandon, not son, of Rómendacil II. Rómendacil II's son Valacar married a woman of Rhovanion, and thus produced Eldacar, who, being of mixed blood (Middle-men and Westernesse), reclaimed the throne of Gondor from Castamir the Usurper. Sorry about that mix up, my mistake! Hopefully, I will not have to amend any other mistakes in this video, but if I do, I will add it to this comment. Thanks!

    It’s a perfect example how something beautiful can be twisted and used for evil, it’s not ironic because the gift of men to die was exactly that, a gift. Eru illuvatar favoured humans above elves out of both his children, and because of that he gave them a very special gift, he gave them the ability to die so that they could join him in the unknown, it was never meant to be a punishment but a reward, it wasn’t until Morgoth started twisting and lying in their minds that they started to believe it was an end and a punishment.

    Great video! I really enjoy watching the videos you put out, but this was perhaps the best one yet. It is well researched, well written, and had a great driving thesis.
    I especially liked how you explained the Black Numenoreans as a foil to the descendant of Numenor, both connected by the "gift of men" but whose lives were governed differently by it. I think we see a glimpse of that thought in TT in the chapter "Of Herbs and Stewed Rabbit" right when Sam saw his "first view of battle of Men against Men...." There he ponders, if only for a moment, the nature of what drives men to battle, whether it's lies and threats or defense of one's home. I think this video does a great job of exploring some of those "lies and threats" and the greater history behind them.

    I'm actually left a little confused by this explanation. Elros chose to be human and became the king of Numenor. His descendants were beguiled by Sauron and lost faith resulting in the restructuring of the world. The only remaining faithful escaped East to Middle Earth. So these faithful were not of the line of Kings of Numenor? They were some other branch of the family? Which would make Aragorn, inheritor of their legacy, NOT of the line of the Kings of Numenor?

    Men of the West
    I know this has nothing to do with the video but I would love to see Sauron in a Mortal Kombat game as a guest character. The tower character ending would be something like this, Sauron at last submitted his total dominance in Mortal Kombat conquering Out World entirely. Eventually he found a way to merge Middle Earth and Out World together with his new powers he conquered both Middle Earth, Out world, Nether realm, and Earth realm after reclaiming his one ring. Sauron ruled over a eternal empire until the end of days. We could also see a Baraka Urak-hai skin and a character skin for Noob Saibot as the Witch King. What are your thoughts on this? This probably will happen eventually because same company owns both IPs and guest characters like Sauron in brutality usually become guest characters in Mortal Kombat games.😅

    And besides why would you want to be immortal like an elf Tolkien pretty much pointed out that being an elf is depressing. you can literally drop dead from grief or a broken heart the like luthien, not to mention Eru intentionally made Middle Earth to decline in magic overtime to the point where the elves were forced to move West, so your living conditions are pretty much chosen for you. And even if you stay in Middle-earth you'll eventually turn invisible because the magic that once maintained your kaporal form will have evaporated

    • @MuhammadAhmad-pl4sj
      @MuhammadAhmad-pl4sj Před 4 lety +4

      No no no. Eru did not intentionally made Middle Earth to decline in magic overtime, that was Morgoth's doing. He succeeded in creating a divide thereby estranging Men from Elves.

    • @jorgepalomo6417

      Not all elf felt this Way, and Valinor was erected against this
      The Key diference from Humans is that Elfs are Bound to Arda, Men are Not.
      Hence their "inmortalitiy" as long has Arda endure there will exist in body or not
      I Like this distinction, Elves can figth and died knowing they still eventualy can come back
      To men their fate seems final thats why they seem more willing to figth for inmortality

  • @madambutterfly1997
    @madambutterfly1997 Před 4 lety +2

    The kings of Gondor pretty much screwed themselves over by marrying Middle Men the castamere Rebellion pretty much force them in a position where they were forced to intermingle with Middleman because they we're in the tumultuous territory of slaughtering the other descendants of numenor to the point where there were none left to rekindle the long life span and mystical bloodline

    • @mateuszsotys3912
      @mateuszsotys3912 Před 4 lety +2

      The lifespan wasn't strictly connected to the bloodline, Eldacar lived for 235 years, as long as at least two Gondorian kings before him. It was more about virtue, a blessing that was connected to upholding the legacy of Numenor. It's fair to assume that if the men of Gondor had stayed true to their heritage no amount of mixing with Middle Men would've diminished their lifespan.
