GOD I miss music and musicians.
So cool! Very Velvet Underground vibes!
My favorite SY song.
i know nothing about this band,Awesome performance!Real people, real music!Nowadays spoken word emo rap on SNL etc.Everyone has their time under the sun.
Wildly original at their best. Unlistenable at their worst, but I respect the hell out of them.
Bad songs can still be original, plus you're calling it unlistenable. What a rank compliment.
Agree mate, as do all genuine non-sycophantic fans. The highs are beyond anything you will ever experience, the lows just allow them to reach the highs.
@@IndexFossilchannelmy dude, if you don't acknowledge how truly avant garde and dissonant some of their music truly is then you're not a real sonic youth fan. Some of their music truly is unlistenable and that's the point, that's what makes it great.
@@bleachno9 "Unlistenable: adjective (especially of music) impossible or unbearable to listen to." So let me understand, YOU can't listen and I'm the one who's not a true fan and I'm the one who doesn't have "knowledge of avant-garde music" here? Sonic Youth is not a cool t-shirt, it's a band🤦♂ you have to listen
dave, thank you for your service...
Bowies "Kim Gordon" phase is so underrated.
save me kim gordon
Pregnant Kim still rocking
Farking 30 years. Great song.

65 AÑOS. (66)
IT'S BACK BABY!!!!
Sounds like a precursor to PJ Harvey 🤘
@@JonScott-jv8jg yeah I was thinking it was the 80s when I made that comment
Fuck yes this is back.
Little baby Coco bun in the oven. Way to go Kim
LOVELY !!!!
When late night t.v. was best.
Respect x
The problem with so much music since the late 80's is that vocals have become BACKGROUND to everything else.
Gotta All Points Bulletin: Missing one dancing cutie. Might have been slugged by someone's ❤️
Kathleen seemed like she was having so much fun in that video, though.
OMG I completely forgot about this song!!
Kim Althea Gordon (Rochester, Nueva York; 28 de abril de 1953) es una cantante, guitarrista, bajista y escritora estadounidense, miembro fundador del grupo de rock alternativo Sonic Youth.
71 AÑOS.
NYC at its finest.
I can def hear the Can inspiration when they play the eerie part of the song. Several of their songs (even their debut EP) have a lot of Can-vibes. I know Thurston was a huge fan of their Ege Bamyasi record.
Impossible to turn this up this “too loud”.
Wtf? Wheres every1 at!?
Yes. Yes. Yes.
Oooh. I want Thurston's hot rodded guitar here.
Kim was 41 here...was she pregnant at the time? And how come the camera didn't do any zooming in on Lee?
Kim should've invited Kathleen Hanna to this performance, and then maybe Kathleen could have briefly cameoed in this!
Tale end of real tight bands. Joy Division. The Cure. Siouxie.
there would be no nirvana the way we know it if it wernt for SY. ppl wouldnt know of SY if not for nirvana, "Listen to Sonic Youth"
Sonic Youth was a favorite band of Kurt Cobain. I was rocking to Sonic Youth in 1988, check out the álbum Sister. Gorgeous.
lol house band couldnt play along , like wtf tuning these dudes playing
@@patrick4662 Paul's ham-iness abounds. He was always trying to insert himself into everything, and I think that shtick got old really quick. In all the years that I watched Letterman, I never understood why he couldn't just leave well enough alone.
@@QuadMochaMatti yeah he certainly was something. I am not a massive Paul Schaffer fan and I actually like bands like Sonic Youth.
What I was referencing specifically was a recent interview when someone asked paul who the best letterman musical guest was of all time. And without hesitation he said James Brown. And I think I agree with him, having gone back and watched that "set". He played for like 15 minutes ha, they had to bump a guest.
This was considered Music back then?
1:29 She hated my comment. Oopsie!
they suck
This sucks!
Imagine seeing something like this on mainstream TV in 2024.
Dream on. No chance.
It was FAAAAAAR more uncommon in 1994, kiddo.
@@jetblackrecords5540 I was there and no it absolutely wasn't. Loads of great live TV performances back then.
I dunno. I watched T.V back then because it was there. T.V is not there anymore for me. Adverts n cooking shows...nah
Never happen
