      Who would even put the word "king" next to this move...

    • @LionWolfTactical
      @LionWolfTactical Před 3 lety +14

      @Jon Bishoff if you have to use it EVERYTIME, to win, it's a big difference, and says a lot about ability. Also not everyone does the kings move the same nor use it in the same way or as consistently. There's a reason it's talked about with Todd more than anyone else, and everyone else isn't all wrong. The people who defend that type of winning either know Todd personally or they like to use things like that to win in their own lives and take it as personal insult. We compare the best arm wrestlers with eachother. When doing that, Todd's way to win doesn't stack up well with how most the other top guys ability to win. How he uses it and how often he does, shouldn't be ok, it's like Blanca in street fighter just pressing the electric move over and over or someone sweeping you over and over spamming it. In some leagues they let it go even worse and can make or break a match with elbow off and arm completely extended hanging off the table. But I see you all over these comments defending Todd, so we won't see eye to eye about it. I just don't respect that type of winning, especially when it's virtually the ONLY way you do ever win. I don't like it when Devon has done it either, the point was he's not known for only winning that way, or uses it as his main move no matter the match. The way Todd uses that move, makes the whole move looked at like it needs to be be moved out of the rules, it treads that line of cheating too closely. Fully extend arm, leaning under table, with an arm that doesn't extend fully, and Just hang in hopes that your better opponent can't hold you and your body weight long enough. This is the best of the best we are talking about here, when you stack up ability and tools used, Todd's use of it makes it seem like it shouldn't be allowed even not allowed for Devan. It should be called hang and hope move not Kings. Todd is a strong guy and a great competitor, I feel if he could get better at other things instead of spamming that move, he would be a better and more respected arm wrestler. Problem is, if he doesnt use it, he probably won't be able to win against any top level guys of today. I say take the whole move out, or be much more strict across leagues with the move and elbow and height of your body and table. Todd's strong and good for him, just not mine or many others cup of tea for only way to compete and win against the best of the best.

    • @LionWolfTactical
      @LionWolfTactical Před 3 lety +4

      @Jon Bishoff and you said stop making excuses for him because you like him more, but that's all you have been doing for Todd bro. If I do like Devon more it's not becuase of their looks lol, it's because of the difference in their ability and tools to win, style. If Devon matched like Todd I wouldn't like Devon as much either. It's not personal, it's simply about how one chooses to win versus another.

      @@PawanKumar-vr2uz you can't compare the bitch move with all the other more fundamentally connected moves, even the flop-wrist press, the degenerate form of inside-pulling, requires side/back pressure, i.e. your 'arm', which is connected with the other pulling forms from the hook to the top-roll; but the king's move gives up side/back pressure (your 'arm') to secure hand control relying on one's bone-lock and fucked up tendons, which are more like disabilities than the physical manifestation of most's idea of athleticism, and the only way you win with your 'hand' only is to sit there till your opponent tires himself out and then stand back up for a sneaky (usually flop) press. So is this a legit strategy, why yes, according to the rules; but in my and many others' opinions it's hardly armwrestling.

  • @oceanwaves83
    @oceanwaves83 Před 3 lety +19

    A brief analysis of Todd's tactics here:
    16:58 elbow spent some time off the back of the pad, taking a massive amount of pressure off his elbow joint and causing Pushkar to waste precious energy.
    19:46 Same thing. It's no secret that Pushkar is most dangerous during his initial hit, and while all elite pullers have great stamina, Pushkar isn't known for having top level endurance. This is a way for Todd to prevent himself from being pinned while (1) not expending as much energy as he normally would with his elbow on the pad, and (2) Drastically reducing the chances of his arm breaking, as his forearm becomes the fulcrum instead of the elbow.
    23:33 Sneaky. Humerus bone is at a negative angle here, which is what the "shoulders must be above the table" rule is supposed to prevent. By dipping lower, Pushkar has to fight the bone lock sooner. Todd already has a unique advantage. Due to being unable to even come close to fully straightening out his arm, he doesn't have to have his humerus at a negative angle in order to benefit from the bone lock. But he does it anyway.
    ***To clarify, I do not see using the bone lock as cheating. To do that would be to penalyze someone for having a disability. People whose arms can actually fully straighten will not have an opportunity to use their bone lock unless they have their humerus bone at a negative angle, which shouldn't be allowed (yet some refs go by shoulder position which muddies the waters of legality).
    25:15 Here you can see his humerus bone is MUCH closer to level (parallel with floor). If you analyze Todd's matches, you will see this is a common phenomenon. As he sees that his opponent is becoming completely drained, he will gradually bend the rules less and less. He doesn't cheat every match of course, but you'll see the incidents where he cheats the most are when he is in the greatest danger of being pinned. If you doubt this please revisit WAL 403.
    28:37 Todd felt Pushkar was too drained and that he had this in the bag at this point. We see some actual offense off the rip this time with an actual confident hit. He dips far too low on the hit but I believe this is just out of habit. We see a few small hits here and there, first real offense of the match. Seconds later, notice the "oh sh*t" moments as he straightens out his arm every time Pushkar hits. And when Pushkar finally transitions to the press, Todd goes FAR too low and immediately engages his bone lock, as he knows this is do or die. The bone lock wasn't enough though. Notice how the strap seems to have loosened, and Pushkar's flop wrist press is actually attacking Todd's thumb from _behind,_ *causing* Todd's arm to pronate (rendering Todd's incredible pronator useless and), largely negating the effectiveness of the bone lock (even the letter "V" is flat once you lay it down laterally) eventually pinning him palm side down!
    Incredible by Pushkar. RIP.
    For those of you that think this is just about the king's move, I urge you to analyze more of Todd's matches. The king's move isn't the problem. It's a lack of authoritative rule enforcement when pullers bend and break the rules. When you're in a king's move, the fact is that the ref is often assuming your elbow is on the pad rather than taking an actual close look. He is usually much more focused on your opponent's elbow as he desperately tries to pin you.
    It's pretty amazing how he talks casually while holding the strongest pullers in the world isn't it? Well maybe now some of you have a slightly better idea as to how that is possible. It's also pretty amazing that Todd came so close to "winning" this while being in a losing position 99% of the match.

      Great comment, personally I'm not too sure strict reinforcement of the rules would dampen the success of Michael's king's move because he seems to be getting better with keeping up with the rules in his recent matches; maybe a sign for another rule-change. Wouldn't it be better if we had three refs, one for each puller and a 'general' ref for monitoring the center of the table and pin-checking, as well as allowing immediate footage-rewinds for ambiguous cases.

      There was nothing wrong with todd in this match..He was completely over the table following the rules

    Being forced to armwrestle a M.Todd who's hiding under the table with his fckng arm fully extended and his triceps on the pad is an absolute nonsense !
    Even if you think about it open minded (and i've heard Devon larratt's opinion on this), this just doesn't make any sense !!!!!
    I really think King move should be banned period ! (sorry Michael & Devon) but this ain't armwrestling !!!
    I really think John Brzenk is right when he says that having your arm fully extended, or the tip of your elbow not touching the pad should be equivalent to a foul and then to a loss !!

      YES and the real shit is that both Mike and Devons arms are damaged and do not extend all the way from scar tissue build up in the joint. That's why when they are just standing around there arms are always kind of bent. They use this and the kings move in combo to their advantage for sure. Full extension plus arm won't fully open for Anything naturally FUSED BENT. I am a former pitcher I know exactly what that's like first hand!!
