    Glad to see more Team Yankee. This channel is why I am trying out this game and many other games shown on this channel. Keep up the great work.

    You made a mistake on the artillery bombardment at the Gecko. If you range in on the first attempt, you hit on 3+, not 5+. Concealment and gone to ground does not matter for artillery bombardment. I do wonder how did the Abbot or whoever the spotter was can see that point on the terrain. Also firepower was not required against unarmored tank team like the Gecko. When the Gecko fails 5+ save, it is destroyed and it is PINNED since unarmored tank team got hit by artillery bombardment.

      That does seem to be the spot where we had a lot of our... miscalculations. ;) First off, the Unit Leader for the armoured cars did have line of sight to the range-in point at the edge of the woods by the left-most Gecko, so no worries there. When we rolled, though, we were looking for 4+ to hit each of the targets because my v1 Team Yankee salvo/artillery template said to add that for teams that were Gone To Ground. It's only now when you point it out that I realize that was a v1 rule that didn't make it to v2. So with the rolls I made, I should have hit two Geckos instead of one. And you're right - they should have been Pinned Down - off-camera, I said to Josh, "So are they pinned... no, they're Tank Teams." But again, when you mentioned it, I rechecked, and yes, Unarmoured Tank Teams do get Pinned Down by artillery hits. So I might have killed an extra Gecko, and they would have been Pinned in their first round of shooting and then again in their second round because I hit them in the Repeat Bombardment. It would have made a big difference for my Harriers and... it was all my own fault! :D (Since I managed to win the game anyway, I'll take the lesson to heart, but not get too hung up on how this one SHOULD have gone. :) )

      @@ijdundas For the spotter, I didn't think it was coming from the Fox armored team. With the camera close up on the range-in marker and only mentioning someone can spot at the location, it was hard to tell who was the spotter. Not a problem, but I was curious.
      As for the Soviet player, he should have kept the infantry mounted in the transport when he dashed toward the middle objective. I think the lead BMP-2 or maybe two appeared to be within 4in of the objective even though it would have taken him another turn to capture it. Transports with mounted infantry can take objective, not empty. Although the BMP-2 were within gun range of Fox and Scorpion arriving from reserve, you would have been forced to focus on them rather than pushing to capture Soviet objective. It would have been interesting to see what would happen next.

    My opinion on the game overall: It's unusual to see a British player not running any infantry, since they are so solid and are imo pretty important to protect the flanks of the Chieftains. If your BMPs got close enough to put side shots on them its goodnight for the unit. Fighting them head-on from the front is what Chieftains want you to do since they will win that fight most of the time. You could've won the game by having your artillery lay down a Smoke Bombardment in front of your T-72Bs while they go after the Foxes to claim that objective, as this move would've left him pretty helpless to stop you.

      More good points! My lack of infantry was a calculation of points density and running out of time. It takes me quite a while to paint things, and I didn't want to rush my infantry and be unhappy with the result. So I painted the Chieftains and Abbots and Rapiers and just had time to do up the recce units at the end. I was aware that it wasn't optimal in-game, and that's why I mentioned in the after-action that "bringing infantry" was what I would do differently. Next time I visit Josh, I'll have a more combined arms force! :D

      @@ijdundas If you are wanting the advice, there are two big things I've learned about the British after 20+ games. 1) Blitz is great, and should be considered, but Shoot and Scoot is your standard fall back. Get used to using it all the time. If you fail the former Skill test, your shooting is nerfed that turn (which is bad), but if you fail the latter it means nearly nothing. Hence, it's way better to fire two shots then Shoot and Scoot if you can to set up next turns two shots. 2) British are absolute beasts when assaulting at night. 3+ Assault and 3+ Counterattack is rare even among NATO and wow it can be quite devastating if used on time. I've seen Gordon Highlanders cut up twice their number of Soviets in a building and it was shockingly brutal and quick.

    14:00 you don't roll Fireipower checks against vehicles with Tank saves. If the target fails, they are dead. You only roll Firepower after Aircraft saves.

    • @ijdundas
      @ijdundas Před rokem

      Aha! Thanks! Fortunately I passed the Unnecessary Firepower Check so it did work out. ;)

    • @Halkomahooli
      @Halkomahooli Před rokem

      Also teams under template don't benefit from concealment or being gtg when determing if they get hit. Only modifier for the To Hit that you can get is from of which Ranging In roll you managed to range in: Range In on first roll = no modifier, Range In on second roll = +1 To Hit, Range In on third roll = +2 To Hit.
      Also if you have, lets say 3 batteries and they use the same spotting team and you Range In B1 on first roll = no To Hit modifiers, then try to Range In B2 with second roll (successfully) B2 gets +1 To Hit, and then you move to the B3 and use the third Range In successfully B3 gets +2 To Hit penalty.
      So it might be good to always switch who's spotting so you can always have 3 Ranging In rolls to use for each battery of artillery.

      It's my own invention. I used the proper colours for the British Army in the 1980s, but the pattern was inspired by the pattern used by 3 RTR on their Grant tanks in early 1942. :)
