Looking for a used Nissan Dualis? - carsforsale.com.au/nissan/dualis
Not really a hatchback but really an SUV, the Nissan Dualis (or Qashqai as it’s called outside of Australia) attempted to be many things to many people, however, this approach rarely results in success.
Sales success was near guaranteed for Nissan (with many in the company calling the Qashqai the Qash-cow), but now the budget-built crossover is getting on in age, and with many having travelled thousands of kilometres, should they be considered in the used car market at all?

I loved my 2 dualis’s. Loved the top view reverse camera and how quiet the road noise was - couldn’t hear much from outside at all. It was a little sluggish uphill and in one of them the tail handle was starting to come off. Had them both for 4 yrs or so.

Weird that you have so many complaints. I have owned two European spec Qashqais, a 2007 diesel 1.5 manual and I currently still drive a 2013 petrol automatic 1.6. I have had zero problems with either, everything is solid and in fantastic condition, I have never had any engine or other issues with it. Where are the Australian versions built ? I do agree that the CVT gearbox is not the most fun to drive but if you are a calm driver you should be ok.

I have a 2011 J10 2 ltr petrol with cvt transmission. I bought it at 60 thousand km and now has 160 thousand km on the clock. It has been a great vehicle and economical to run. No issues with body panels or interior. I have replaced both rear shocks and cv boot seals. Also the clock spring needed replacing at 140 thou km as the airbag warning light stayed on and the fault was traced to the clock spring in the steering wheel . It gets a regular oil sevice every 10,000km. Uses no oil between changes. Its important to replace the cvt fluid as scheduled at 90,000km intervals. When I update vehicles I will get another one.

It has been abused with many short trips > 10 km on salty roads and humid and changing climate - 25 to +35 degrees Celsius. It is still presentable with no visible rust or discoloration. Wear parts replaced: 2 wheel bearings 1 bearing ball and all brake pads. due to the driving style, the egr has also been changed. This car has awesome fuel economy, great AWD performance in snow but it is small inside, and the engine used to almost dying on my family when we went up a hill with the AC on 😅. If a puny engine, lackluster performance, low built quality are not a problem, it is a great car for a small family. We replaced it with a Volkswagen Tiguan, the Tiguan felt like a luxurious tank by comparison.

I am struggling to understand how there are so many faults with this car. I am an owner of a 1.6 Petrol 2011 model and the car does not make noises, absorbs road anomalies gracefully, i have no paint chip issues or damages to the plastic and the seats are comfortable for my height both front and rear (i am 1.83 m). Road noise is minimum, and there is no wind noise when i travel. In fact i travel at 140 km/h in a very relaxed manner and the engine does not produce the noise that my megane coupe does (14 16V 2001). The only part i can agree with you is that its acceleration is not instant it takes a while and only when it builds on RPM ( > 3000) it shows its power (the Megane in this section shines: it pulls up instantly at the moment you press the pedal). Finally my interior does not have failing bits and no plastic is moving back and forth. I suspect that the owner of the car you tested was not very careful, maybe she was abusing it...

Wow, I'm guessing you won't be starting my fan club anytime soon.
We can't comment on the Euro versions as, well we're not in Europe, but as far as the versions we have here, there are countless reports and articles easily available to read online reporting all of the issues mentioned in the video.
I should mention, we did hours and hours of research, read countless consumer satisfaction reports and reached out to various mechanics and Nissan technicians to gather the information for the video, and what you watched was the culmination of all that research, far from just my opinion.
Nissan did sell millions of these things but a product being popular when new has zero correlation to its longevity and reliability after years of use and thousands of kilometres travelled.
I didn't for a second expect a $10,000 Nissan to feel anything like a $1mil Rolls Royce. However, I hoped it would feel at least comparable to this cars competition from the likes of Toyota, Subaru, Kia, Hyundai, Mazda etc etc.
If that is genuine leather, it's far from a good quality leather and feels more like genuine vinyl.
As far as my demeanour, language and vomit gesture goes, you're entitled to your opinion but feel free to work your butt off for zero money to create something like what we've created with ReDriven, spend the hundreds of hours researching, writing, filming and editing the videos and then post them on CZcams so I can eloquently let you know what I think of you. - AK

Great comprehensive review, but the blame on Renault is just uncalled for. Renault doesn't use CVTs and that's the biggest thing that goes wrong - it's all Nissan's design and choice that went into it, through their subsidiary Jatco. Really wasn't necessary to mention Renault. I've found their models last long, and that corresponds to them placing halfway versus Nissan's near last place in the 2021 WhatCar reliability survey. Again - of Nissan's own making. I believe that you completely glossed over the very unique proposition the +2 offers in being a compact "7 seater" that has a large boot as a 5 seater, and 2 extra seats when really needed. There's NOTHING like it, nothing when it was new either. The engine paired with CVT is shit though, and the whiny drone it made going uphill tells me it may be headed for failure.
Also a bit odd that you lumped the Megane and Clio together with the 370Z. You're falling for common misconceptions thinking Renault and Nissan are conjoined at the hip when it comes to actually producing each of their own model lines.

12:08, dualis in the background driveway 😂
I still own a 2013 TS 6spd manual. I've driven 800kg with a 350 Chevy. This car has all the practically and fun without being overbearing. Just hit 90k kms in mine. The interior door handle trim fell apart within 20k.
The boot handle fell off at 50k. Original brake pads changed at 70k.
10 years old and it feels like maybe 5-10 hp fell out the tailpipe.
Mine has super low km for its age, but i like the car. Hasnt had a major failure in 10 years.

wow, I've had very few of those complaints for the majority of my 2009 CVT FWD petrol Dualis' life. She's reaching 404,000 km's now, so there's a few issues - the suspension I replaced and is a little harder now, the CVT is going, but that happens.
The power's always been decent, the CVT hasn't complained too much, and I came from a Ford Fairlane NL 4L straight 6
I have noticed the tailgate handle assembly DOES break and a lot of Dualis's are getting around with duct-taped assembly and the rear taillight issue DOES suck every now and then, especially when it drops your cruise control out because voltage is bleeding into your break system and tripping it XD
All in all, my Dualis has been great.

i owned a ex-display 2011 Nissan Qashqai 1.2L petrol with manual gearbox,... it was uhm yh mehh, nice at first, definite step up in my opinion from the 06 focus I had. Under powered, so get used to taking your time. Owning one at 21yrs old, you get used to being gawked at by older women and even police pulling you over thinking they're helping an old man. Plenty of room for your mcdonald's after work though. in the 2yrs i owned it, I had work done on the tracking [about 4 times], steering column itself, wing mirrors not folding or adjusting, replaced the the handle for the boot twice, rattling noises, a leaky door or two one of which somehow was dislodged despite never being touched. In terms of safety they're safe in my opinion because you can't go fast enough to be in any real danger [had a car accident didn't feel a single thing, the other person not so lucky]. The light steering is common, and is a Nissan thing in general [like my juke].

The video is designed to pull information from a variety of sources, many of which report myriad issues with the Qashqai.

There are a couple of issues but nothing that need immediate attention. I have made sure it gets regular services.
