Fun thing to try: 8oz of warm water, 1 TBSP of Honey, 1 Tsp of Cinnamon.
Whenever I get a sore throat after late night karaoke, I make this little drink and its gone within 20 minutes. Just a fun thing to use.

you are the reason i have gotten my voice back!!!!! I have applied all of your techniques to my singing. I lost my voice really bad due to bad technique and i listened to all of your videos, and i now am regaining my voice. What does it mean if you go to hit a note that you used to be able to hit, and your voice just goes to air(no voice or high pitch)? is there a way to regain that range?

My voice has been hurting for months!!! I had to speak for my job all day long, then I'd come home and sing as a stress reliever because I just love it so much. I wouldn't warm up even though I knew I needed to. Anyway, I thought because my voice has been hurting so bad that I'd need surgery. And I can't go to the doctor because I don't have health insurance so I got scared that I damaged my voice permanently or I'd need surgery and something would go wrong and if the surgeon slipped up my mouth would get paralyzed. Anyway, you saying that recovery rarely involves surgery makes me super happy!!!! Thank you so much you saved me alot of worrying :D

Im a dancer and your tips are really helpful cause they range out in so many directions. I watch your videos cause I enjoy them hahaha, but when you mentioned that singing, dancing in my case, is all about conditioning your body everyday and sometimes you really do need to become a beginner again. Thats the best advice I've seen in a long while because it teaches humility. Thanks so much for your time and videos!

I never cease to be impressed by Eric's knowledge and passion for good vocal, talks so much sense. I've never assumed that I'm god's gift as a singer, I'm not responsible for having a good sounding instrument but I've had to re adjust my ideas approach over the years. I'm getting on a bit now but can honestly say I'm singing better these days than ever before but going back over Eric's basics is never a chore. Due to lack of funds I seldom see my own teacher but it doesn't prevent me from working and touching base with these videos too. I have a huge respect for this young man and am always happy to recommend his videos to people without a regular teacher but wish to improve. Many Thanks Eric.

I'm here because I found your videos when looking for exercises because I sing at church & I'm fine all year until we get to practicing the Christmas cantata. Every year once we get to those long practices I'm hoarse by the end of practice. Every few years I have a solo in the cantata & I'm always nervous on top of getting hoarse. After just a week of doing your suggested daily practicing I can already tell a difference in sound & feel like I have a little more vocal strength. It drives the dog crazy, but he'll be fine. lol Thanks so much for explaining your information so well & sharing your knowledge & training with us!

Thank you much for this video. I really love to sing and I hope to someday be able to persue a vocal career (I'm only 15 now, so who knows), but I don't take any singing classes, because one, I can't really afford them, and two, because there aren't any proffesional vocal teachers in my neighborhood (that I know of). I sing everyday, I get a painfull throat a lot and I can't belt really well, but I still really love to do it. I recently found out that I can do whistle notes and my friend warned me about the dangers of singing them without a vocal coach, so I got really worried about ruining my voice permanently. This video (and a lot of your other videos) really helped me and taught me a lot about singing I didn't know, and gave me more confidence in my voice.
So I'm really glad you take the time to make (or took the time, I don't know if you still make them) these video's. They're really fun to watch too! So I just want to thank you for making these videos and helping me out.

Hi Eric, your videos really are a great help. You're real and honest, which really works for me. I've been having a huge scare the past two months, because (although I'm not hoarse, oddly enough), I suddenly can't hold a clear tone anymore. My voice gets all shaky, making me sound pretty awful. Also it constantly feels as if there's a tight scarf around my throat, which has made me fearful of even swallowing (though there's no pain either). Scary thing is I just turned 17, and I absolutely love to sing, so the thought of me having vocal damage already is really frightening. I'd book an appointment with you though sadly I live on another continent, but if you think I should seek medical help (before it's too late, since I'm still growing getting vocal damage now might be permanent) I definitely will. Or perhaps I'm being paranoid, since there's no hoarseness or pain, but my singing ability has definitely deteriorated.

Hi Eric, I was about to audition for a rock band this week. My voice got horse or sore a couple of days ago. I was singing a ton from the bands set list. I don’t usually sing that long. I don’t have much vocal training. I know I’m not singing correctly. I can’t last too long before my voice hurts. This time or last night, even though I knew I should’ve not sung, but given my voice a rest, I pushed it a bit. I sounded great, but it hurt a bit. It’s hard for me to just stop singing. I usually don’t go a day without singing all the time. But my voice is still a bit sore. I have a tickle in my throat a bit and sometimes the urge to cough. You are right about pride. I need to not do my audition. I need to let my voice recover and heal. If I do the audition I know I might really hurt my vocal cords. So, hopefully with rest, and not talking much...as it is somewhat uncomfortable to talk too much. It sucks that, I have to tell the band that I should hold off until further notice and when I have gotten some help from the proper vocal coach or doctor. I know that I don’t have very good vocal endurance or good vocal technique. So I absolutely need to make the choice to get the training I need to be able to stop any more damage and sing in a healthy way. This is really in a way, a wake up call. I’m just not sure if it’s advisable to still be in the band, if I’m accepted and start training. Or if should train first and then get in a band. I believed this was time, but my voice health was saying differently. So... pride be gone! Thanks Erik, I was on the brink of making a huge mistake for my vocal health. I just didn’t want to piss off the band members and hurt my chances of doing an audition in the future, if I’m ready. By then, they might get another lead singer.

Hey, I'm young and have been experiencing a bit of hoarseness ever since I had a very bad sore throat. Its been a week or two and after doing some research, I do feel like I may have that feeling of having a lump in my throat (although it may be paranoia, I can't really tell). And since I'm a singer, whenever I try hitting the higher range of my notes, my voice cracks easily, its harder to do, and doesn't really sound the same anymore which has rarely ever happened (although it might be my imagination). I'm really scared because singing is my passion and I really don't want to find that I have vocal damage, what do I do?

Constant lump in the through. Feels right like some one has put their hand around my neck and squeezed my like crazy. Can speak in a tighter range when it happened. I'd be hoarse and yet still be able o hold notes, stay relatively on pitch. But the minute I'd be asks to talk about a phrasing or the tablature. Had a pulmonary function done as well as an x-ray of my chest. Thought I could take the acid refuser option. Unfortunately, I would only benefit from having an entire set of vocal training sorry this is so wordy. Please feel free to offer any advice you had seen along your journey

When you mentioned about raspy voices, I find that a lot of shows out there, like the voice, promote people with raspy voices. What these singers don't realize that their longevity as a singer is diminished by such a style. I have a difficult voic. Takes a long time for it to warm up. When going to karaoke it can take hours before my voice is able to do what it is capable of doing.

Fantastic advice, I love your uploads. You're the one source I go to for all my vocal training and support! I damaged my vocal cords a while back, an endoscopy showed one side of my vocal cords never closes fully. The doctor didn't seem concerned (said maybe it was always that way) but you've made me wonder if this affects the way I should be treating my voice - it so easily gets tired and damaged, I'm always hoarse (guaranteed the next day at least) after singing, or even just raising my voice to talk in a loud bar/club. Thinking I REALLY need to follow all your advice! Gracias from España!

Thank you for this. i think I've damaged my vocal cords. i used to sing constantly everyday and I was fine... But because I loved it, it came easily, and I think I loved it because I was depressed (it was like being a kid putting their fingers in their ears, singing la la la when hearing something they don't like, but blocking out life instead). When I started taking anti depressants I became too content with being quiet and suddenly felt like I forgot how to sing. 2 years later, people are asking me to sing with them and everything that comes out is bad, so I bought an online course hoping I can learn technique, so I don't have to rely on emotions, but after about 7 days of trying to do the exercises right, I've started having a sore throat, and speaking feels like alot of effort. Its actually tiring me out. I still have my voice, and I can still do everything I could do before, but it doesn't feel good. I may well book a lesson. Are there any exercises I can do whilst I feel like this? and how do I avoid more damage whilst working. I work as an online teacher and have to talk all day and it's really tough for me atm.

Eric, I need to talk to u about my vocal issue. I am a singer. But taking professional vocal lessons and also singing in the wrong way, has resulted in a vocal tension dysphonia or MTD in my vocal cords.I have actually learned singing for 1 year professionally and phlegm used to get accumulated in my throat each and every time i sang. Neither i understood the sign and nor my coach and now its been three years, i cant sing properly. I feel an extreme tension specially unilateral (right side) which prevents me to talk freely at times. There is no pain and no physical damage except extreme tremor as per the vocal stroboscopy and voice assessment reports. So its been a long time i am struggling with this, i am an Indian, used to do ur lessons ( tongue trills, motorboat, tala, laga etc. :) ) a lot once and took western vocal classes.
THANK YOU FOR THIS AWESOME TIPS AND IF U DO HAVE A SOLUTION OR RECOMMEND ME SOMETHING TO DO, IT WILL BE HELPFUL.
I am 22 years old and started learning to sing after 18.

I’ve hindered my abilities quit a bit from vaping. I’ve quit now but I’m honestly very scared. Seeing an ENT in 2 days and doing what I can at home. For others going through this, you are not alone. Singing is so much about our mindset, it’ll be okay.

I got ill back in October and I still had to work. I'm a teacher, so obviously, using my voice still. I started to get better than then got ill again. Fast forward to now and I've been diagnosed with nodules. I can't believe it as I've not sung in so long, but it's taken so long to get referred. Thanks for this video though, as I've often had throat pain after singing and sometimes even teaching! Subscribed!

Ive had a gap in my voice for around a year people have said its puberty but I KNOW its vocal damage, i'm 14 so people assume puberty right away but this video really helps me prove that its not. I used to be able to sing like glass shattering high with ease and perfectly but now when I try to sing in my head voice all that comes out is hoarse air and it hurts when I sing or even talk sometimes. Im afraid I might have permanently damaged my voice as for a YEAR it has been like this and its getting worse. I am going to schedule a doctors appointment immediately because I don't want to lose my voice and I really want to pursue a career in music because music and singing is everything to me I don't know what I would do If I couldn't sing like I used

Hi my name is Nkenglefac Moses from Cameroon, Africa and im am first of all honored to write to you and appreciate the time, patientce and efforts you take to teach us musical wisdom. I have alot to learn and im eager to understand your concepts as to what pertains music. I have been following your teachings and must admit they are reforming and overwhelmingly phenomenal and i have experienced change in my vocal capabilities. But there is this wall i cant seem to climb and its "stage fright". After a series of performances in weddings, musical competitions and shows i sat down and know within me that i could do more and better than what everybody was applauding to, creating in me this paranoia which psychs me out. i consulted a series of pple about it and 7/10 say its a case of stage fright. Sir, i was wondering if there is any series on how to conquer this abnormality so i can see whats behind this wall once im on the other side.

I start coughing a bit after or during a high note....I'm gonna start doing vocal warm ups each day. And I sing each day... It's weird and also annoying at times. I love doing high notes because it's about as loud as I'm gonna get and when I'm singing it's like time just stops and I can just be myself while I'm singing. When I sing I don't care what anyone thinks. I broke out singing Lone Ranger and fight song (both by Rachel pkatten) in a mcdonalds and a shoe store...which I've never done before. It was amazing.

Exactly!!! I love that you said this! "Talent does not protect your voice from being injured". I was discussing this with someone (about not singing when sick to avoid vocal injury) and they totally blew me off. I guess you and the other several hundred youtubers talking about vocal injury must be wrong, right? Rolling eyes....
