I have seen so many stories about this project, it is fantastic, should be replicated countrywide
Affordable housing for the majority of Americans is a myth. I know so many people that are spending at least 50% of their take home pay on housing & utilities. It's absolutely crushing if your a single person. Everything new being built is 2000 SQ ft & up or luxury apartments. I can't see how this is sustainable.
Please keep doing segments on the homeless & unaffordable housing situation in America, it's a ticking time bomb.
that's what i came here to say. zoning is ridiculous in almost every single juristiction where someone could build houses. i'm sure this project had to go through a ton of red tape and get a bunch of special exceptions, and that probably was only possible by calling it a homeless facility.
minimum square footage to build ~anywhere~ needs to be abolished. why would anyone be forced to build a larger house than they need? and how is that the government’s concern or prerogative?
a huge percentage of retired americans, young low-wage working americans, and a huge number of younger folks who have eschewed the rat race as a life formula for happiness would all love to own and live in tiny homes, whether in a community like this or just a neighborhood like this without the shared bathrooms and such.
i think it would catch on like wildfire and create a LOT of happier, more secure folks. and i also think that's why it won't happen. capitalism demands that people are hungry, either for food or work or status.
if a large number of people became satisfied with, say, working part-time because they didn't need to pay 50% of a full-time wage to housing, the system might either fall apart or be forced to change, and the ones making a killing off the status quo will do (are doing) whatever it takes to maintain it.
This is a damn good idea, I think every community in every state should have something like this.
My city of Visalia did this with apartments for the homeless. They are beautiful.

Those tiny homes are regular homes in many places around the world. Family homes, by the way. Maybe part of the problem is building so many huge homes, making them automatically unaffordable for too many people, and a burden for the ones who can afford them?
Smaller homes and density is needed for sustainable living
Texas is in a perfect situation for resolving this.
They've got a lot of land. And a lot of people willing to build stuff.
I'm sure that Governor "Davros" Abbot and Fled Cruz are looking for ways to block more of these. They are soulless automatons.

As a former homeless person, more does need to be done. Homeless people are looked down on like they are unworthy. But what if this was someone's family member or friend, and what if it was the individual thinking it can't happen to you.. well guess what it can and usually does. Some people might not see them as human beings but I do. If you are homeless, don't give up. Don't let the negativity of others keep you down. You deserve a home like anyone else does. Someone out here believes in you.

There are many people with middle class jobs who have been priced out of the traditional housing market and would also love to own a small house, rather than paying to inflated rents for a tiny studio apartment.

They really are attractive and the community looks so nice. I hope this works. Yes, people need a community, but a community of sane, future focused people that uplift. There are loads of communities that deteriorate a bright future. Be careful what community you choose.

I wonder where the rent goes? into community maintenance or extensions or like a fund of some sort?
There is something awfully wrong when we are building tiny homes for people who can't afford a home while entertainers, sportsman and others are living in mega mansions that are so big they most likely don't even use most of it. And have more than one at that.
Those are the people who could really make a difference, instead they are focusing on buying another yacht, private jet or some other empty display of pointless wealth. Eat the rich. 😂

I’m a 64 year old man and I got teary eyed watching this segment. This man has a heart of gold and a beautiful vision. I dare challenge all these billionaires with their private yachts, jets, helicopters, exotic sports cars, limousines, spacecrafts etc. to share in a similar vision

This is a very great concept of the real solution to the homeless situation and should be done more often and would really be a great idea for any community.

This addresses a very big issue that many people need and sometimes don't realize they need support to survive. That extra push just to get up each day and be a part of something and it's all in the community they live. It won't be for everyone, but for more than many of us can imagine.
🎯 People imagine that the homeless are a monolith. Some of them actually have jobs and don't spend all day strung out on drugs or alcohol.
Philippines and other developing countries have been doing that since forever.

This is how you solve homelessness
"Big idea?" This really sums up how far society has lost it's way. We have removed community as the central focus of society all in the name of the mighty dollar and, for all it's technology, we have to take a step back and remember that humanity matters.
The new market is for tiny homes even for the middle class not just the homeless 🤷🏻♀️

Tiny homes are objectively a waste of land. Literally a 4-8 story condominium is a much better option that helps people not only have a place to live, but one that they can finally build equity. I get it - we think of simple living, Walden/Thoreau, etc etc. But look at South Korea and Japan. They have cities that are well built, efficient, safe. And most importantly, they have highly preserved countryside areas. America is losing its countryside because we all have the obsession with suburbanization. The answer is a coalition of urbanites and farmers to build up cities while preserving the countryside. We need to ditch suburbia which encourages sprawl and waste
This is what I was thinking of doing if I won the PowerBall in the billions. I'm sure the hedge funds wouldn't like that.
You could still do something as a multi-million winner. What is money for if not to help others when you can?

Why do you work??? To provide for yourself and your family. If that's where you are. I am not a doctor nor do I realistically expect to be paid as one. Simple living is what this country was until the 1950's. Then homes expanded. I would so love to have one at that rate of pay, I could retire!
