- Hello, everybody! Today we're having a little look at Light Functions inside Unreal Engine! These bad-boys can be a very intelligent way of dealing with many light-based effects, including overhead clouds, flickering lights and even creating a film projector!
Enjoy!

Yay my fav series is back
Glad to hear it! I'm hoping to get a lot of videos out this half of the year :)
I've been missing your CZcams content, glad you're posting again!
Would be cool if u start a series with 5 minutes with blueprints components. Love this format.
Simply Awesome. Cheap cloud shadow trick with rich graphics
The legend returns! 🎉🎈🎊🥳
damn just yesterday I checked the channel and was sad that last vid came 4 months ago, and today you uploaded again nice!
HE'S BACK WOO HOO
ayee welcome back
Love your channel, never stop making content. Your videos are amazing and informative 👍
Another banger. Thanks mate.
all i needed was the material domain change thank you!!!!!
hey man just stopping by to say your content is immensely helpful and your little quips are always entertaining. It's inspiring how much of a wizard you are with this so hats off to you :)
Wow, very clever, impressive!
Thank you. ♥
Thanks for watching! :)
Bruh, I love your stuff, keep it up man. Gotta get on that patron soon
Welcome back, sir
Appreciated!
Wow Charles missed you
welcome back hajnsome been watching this channel lately
Amazing! Thank you.
Thanks for watching :)
I had the same Muse album cover thought when seeing that texture, just before you said it yourself lol
also the coolest thing to do if your lighting engine supports soft shadow - set different sizes to each of three light point
This is insane
i really like your videos
Nice! A new videOoo
Poggersssss
That experimental experiment would be excellent for stained glass effects.
Charlie please don’t give us another 5 month gap between videos 😭
About shader compilation duration, try to Apply the material and then save it. For me it reduced a looooot the compilation duration
I feel like putting a light function with a space image and have it activate on the limb that is attacking for my fighting game, if you do a well timed attack, with lights turned off. Could be really cool, and I bet my pc will love it
For real though: if someone knows how to do this with good performance, let me know.
Could probably fake water caustics with that with a Voronoi If it can grab that distance field info it'd even be able to simulate ripples at the surface. Be fun to see.
Komorebi too
Can you do a tutorial on how to do god rays in cel shader mode?
Hi (somehow i didn't catch your name), I've found your channel just recently and there is a lot to learn from you, thank you for going this far for the community.
Was wondering if you could go over metasounds and how to make a setup to have repeating shots configured by a RPM (rounds per minute) but make the last bullet echo out.
I've done something but i fear it's not the right approach, as each new round fired would cut the existing audio and replay it from the beginning, and of course it leave the last round to echo out if not refiring again to cut it.
Hey hey! That's actually something I'll be covering soonish, however I believe there is a video on the official Unreal channel going over exactly that (with a chain-gun as an example)
@@PrismaticaDevout of the subject, do u still use cascadeur? if yes, does the root motion refuse to work for it animations
Hey hey@@adamebadra3171 ! I sure do - it's been my favourite since I first used it haha. The root motion works fine for me - you'll need to assign a control point and keyframe group to the Root bone and make sure it's keyframed where you want it to go
@@PrismaticaDev thanks😃, you said it worked for you fine, I just want to know if you work with auto posing without the need of the process u just told me, or u animate the root bone as well
I think with Auto-posing you'll still want to animate the Root bone separately, however I can remember there being a setting (maybe an export setting?) that will keep the Root bone directly under the Pelvis at all times, which might be the solution you're looking for :)@@adamebadra3171
Can you do a video on changing a shared material for only some meshes? meaning let say all cars share a primary paint material, how could I change the colour of that material for only the car the player is driving and not other players cars.
Wow that is NOT what I thought a Light Function was.
I thought it was a way of like redefining "N dot L" to get special non-physical shading.
yeah i wish we had this capability
There are ways of writing custom shader modes, I remember Divivor doing some cool custom cel shading that way.
It shows in Lite, but it fails in rendering animation. What should I do in rendering animation? I used the light function to illuminate the facade
gained atleast 2cm length of hair since the last video
Hahaha you're not wrong there :P
Hi,the same tiling is 2, the same texture, but the arrangement with sp is different in ue why?
Hehe, typical Aussie taking 14 minutes to do a 5 minute material lol.
PS. Nice vid though.
Looks different offset
Sorry for asking, but is there any possibility of hiding the chat overlay?
It is very distracting, and I already have trouble with concentrating as it is.
No hate or anything, just asking.
