    Emilie Autumn Liddell was born in Los Angeles, California, better known by her stage name Emilie Autumn, is an American singer-songwriter, poet, and violinist. Autumn draws influence for her music-the style of which she has alternatively labeled as "Victoriandustrial" and glam rock-from plays, novels, and history, particularly the Victorian era. Performing with her all-female backing band The Bloody Crumpets, Autumn incorporates elements of classical music, cabaret, electronica, and glam rock with theatrics, burlesque, and "flamboyant" outfits. Outspoken about bipolar disorder and her experience in a modern-day psychiatric ward, she has written an autobiographical novel, 2010's The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls.
    Her music encompasses a wide range of styles. Autumn's vocal range registers from contralto to dramatic soprano, and her vocal work has been compared to Tori Amos, Kate Bush, and The Creatures. She has released two instrumental albums (On a Day... and Laced/Unlaced), and three which feature her vocals: Enchant, Opheliac, and A Bit o' This & That. The 2003 album Enchant drew on "new age chamber music, trip-hop baroque, and experimental space pop". Autumn layers her voice frequently, and incorporates electronics and electronic effects into her work on Enchant; she also combines strings and piano for some songs, while others feature mainly the piano or violin. The 2006 release Opheliac featured "cabaret, electronic, symphonic, new age, and good ol' rock & roll (and heavy on the theatrical bombast)."

    ok, everyone that keeps hating on EA's vocals in this song, she's acting, wearing multiple corsets and already had throat issues on her tour. please give her a break and just appreciate the music she's worked hard to make

      Who would hate either the voice or the lyrics, this isn't Andrew Lloyd Weber; Emilie, I just listened to h er violin album is one f'en talented lady, and gorgeous too. When it comes to the arts, she does it all, writes draws, designs, composes, sings, c'mon all that emotion! Would you trash Amanda P or Marianne Faithfull, iconic chanteuses....? If I want an operatic voice I'll listen to Maria Callas, Mahalia Jackson, Elaine Page. Namaste, Z (sorry for spelling and typos, haven't had my syringe yet)

    The best thing about EA is that, as she's pointed out before, there are times when the singing is SUPPOSED to sound ugly, it's not always supposed to be pretty. The uglier, the grittier, the more raw and fucked up and real it is, the better it conveys the message.

    Idc how out of breath she is when singing this, every time I hear this live it makes me tear up.

    Have been trying to sing this song and honestly, it's sort of relieving to see that even Emelie Autumn struggles with singing it live haha. This song leaves you absolutely no room to breath.

    if I remember right, soon after when this concert was which is Feb 4 2012, she had delay part of the tour because of throat problems. She has commonally delayed parts of tours to rest her voice which she needs to since she only gets like one or two days rarely in a tour plus she tours in europe and south america giving her no rest and basically living in a tour bus all year

    The corset and the sound system is the reason for the vocals.. but if you listen to the recording she sounds A LOT like it which means less editing was done in the recording studio. the difference is I bet when she records she's not wearing a corset
    her corsets are PROPER corsets they aren't what you find in fredricks hollywood.. They're very technical and very difficult to make. I love the the corset but I would also wish she wore it a little looser so she could breath a little easier.
    lack of air + getting worked up can = passing out.

      as someone who wears a proper corset, as long as you aren't tight lacing you can sing fine. and I doubt she is tightlacing as she has to dance in it all night.

    Some people make valid points that her vocals aren't as good as they could be. But do keep in mind that she is wearing a tightened corset. Granted, singing with a tightened corset is impractical, it is part of her look and it does get her point across as a female who has survived not only the pressures of society that are put upon women, but also her own personal struggles. Those are some of the many reasons I Idolize her, because she is a survivor of her own struggles and she reminds me to be a survivor of mine vs. a victim of my own and to embrace who I am.

      @druzillalafae2128 Před 9 lety +2

      Thank you for the reply. I was actually not aware of her wearing multiple corsets.I thought she wore just one, since I remember wearing just one during her "asylum: the key tour". This honestly makes her live vocals seem a bit more impressive to me.
