Dear All, thank you for all your comments. Yes, the 289ci sounded bad when not flat out. It was a motor used at Le Mans in period, hence was an original period race-tuned motor and loved to foul its' Autolite plugs. It cleared once we got on the highway however. The car is now in the USA and up for sale in Florida for $1.5M. I had to sell it because the 10 year rebuildcost me a fortune.. SAD. However, I'm reconstructing another GT40 now and it'll appear on my channel in 2024. Peace and love in the World please.. Andrew

4:45--the mechanic is balancing the 48IDE Webers by ear! I raced a Datsun 510 in the early 70s. It had twin 50mm Solex carburetors that were very similar to Webers. I used a Uni-Syn to balance mine. I can't imagine having enough sensitivity to be able to do it by ear. Seriously cool...

Anyone know what became of the Ford of France GT-40 Mk.I used in La Louches "A Man & A Woman"???
I never get tired of the scene at Montheray Autodrome....
    200 mph of that banking.
BETTER than at Daytona, some how....
Even from the first grand stand.....
    Different acoustics, I think...
    Daytona had it's echo....
917 fan noise over engine noise, at the right part of the infield...
The west end of the pond where we liked to camp...
    1964 -1973..

Thanks for the link Andy, it looks fantastic (and sounds great too!) - Quick question for you - I had a small quantity of WW2 Vickers aircraft fuel cocks - new unused old stock and was told they were the model used on the GT40. Afraid they are all gone now, but have never found a picture of them fitted to the cars, though a few of the buyers confirmed they were being bought for GT40 restorations and I confess I did rather well out of them!

Dave may not have the most glamorous shop but show me anyone else how has his knowledge and passion.... Jaguar used his cars to create their C and D/XKSS continuation cars recently and even brought parts from him (such as the oil cooler pipework for example) for their cars. Surely that proves that the quality of the workmanship belies the state of the building appearance..... As for the sound, I agree it sounds average in the video, but the genuine GT40's sounded like that rather than the piss poor replica examples with Porsche gearboxes, non crossed manifolds and center gearshifts etc.
