When I think of what passes for music these days....I am sad for these young ones, as they don't know the great masters that we are losing as we "long-haired freaks" start to fly away to that better place. Men like Leon Russell only come around once in a rare moment. He was truly a master in so many ways. God Bless Elton John for giving him the respect he had earned, and being there for him when he needed a friend. Fortunately he will live on forever in our hearts, our memories, and his music. God Bless Leon Russell. He made the world a more beautiful place for us all.
hello friend, thank you very much for your comment, I loved your comment, young people nowadays don't really know good music and it's fun to listen to and Leon Russell, for me, was one of the greatest singers in North American history and I have a lot to thank Elton John for this very special moment for Leon Russell when Elton John and Leon Russell made the album the union.
Live in Tulsa, member of this church. He was our shinning star, our treasure, we were so proud, he was a part of us, and the magnetism, the wonder never fades. We weren't ready, never would be; although we knew his health was precarious, death would surely not touch a man so talented, beautiful, humble. His absence has left a hole, but without the contribution he made from the 50's on, this universe would be sadly lacking musically. He's irreplaceable, one of a kind, and we all prayed he knew the impact he had. RIP Leon, we loved you, still do, Tulsa's hometown legend.
Dear Leon, I'm just a simple woman, but in 1972 I listened to your first Album and for 44 years I have your music in my heart and records. For every emotion, for every occasion there is a Leon Russell song to express it. Thank you Stranger! I will love you for your songs and music till I die.
I discovered Leon Russell through my music club / night club / coffee n burger club way back in 1973. I discovered Jesus through him - I will always be in his thankful debt for all the times I could go to his music when I needed to balance out. Bless you Sir ! May his memory be a blessing forever.
Wish there was a speaker list. I don't remember all their names, though I'm so old I recognize their faces. RIP Leon. Long ago, I jumped around with my baby in my arms to your music and it made us both smile and laugh and have fun. Your songs took me out of bad situations and brought me back to good situations. I was a super fan of yours, Leon. You are already so very missed...
Got my first car at 15, before I could drive it. Put moms speakers out of house in the backseat, and had one cassette. It was Leon Russell, Carney. Mom did me right.
It was a beautiful tribute to a beautiful man! Thanks to the family for sharing this time with us. I will always love you, Leon Russell, rest peacefully now in the arms of angels...
To the 9 people who did not "like" this, how sad. Maybe you never really heard Leon, maybe he never really touched your life with his music. Maybe you did not like this tribute to the incredibly talented musician he was, or to the great character he had. Well, 1,012 (and counting) people far overshadow your sad opinion, to which you are entitled and for which we forgive you. This great talent will never be silenced, thanks to modern media, and there is just nothing you can do about that. Sing on Leon, sing on! R.I.P. brother.
What a beautiful tribute to Leon Russell, he was a great American singer, the tribute is so beautiful, he deserves this tribute because he was an incredible person, rest in peace Leon Russell, we love him so much.
I grew up with your songs, Leon Russell. I cried so much to nurse my broken heart with your songs. Now that you are put to rest, your beautiful songs will reverberate in my heart... in my mind. Forever, it will be.

I had the proper pleasure of seeing Leon in Petaluma concert. The Mystic Theatre on May 22 2016. We were so close and personal at this venue. At the end of this magical concert, he told us to pretend he walked back for an encore as he sat there. We gave him a worthy and raucous standing ovation to honor the genius of this man.

I am an artist and one of the people he reached and touched. I feel like I knew him. His music means SO much to me, I can't express it. If I could've met just ONE famous person in the whole world besides Jesus, it would be Leon Russell. I have a deep admiration for this man. I hope I get to meet him in Heaven. I listened to his music at 14 and now I am 58. His music touches my heart in the same way today as it grabbed me at 14 yrs old. God bless you, Leon.
Thank you for your music Mr Russell, it has meant a lot to me over the years. In my darkest hours, your music has been a comfort to me. God Bless you, you now walk among the Saints, play it pretty for God now. R.I.P. until we are all together again in God's Kingdom, and I'll be able to jam with you then.

I will never forget the first time I was Leon Russel. He was standing on the stage of the Fillmore East, NY. The stage was dark the band was tuning up...he walked out. All I saw was a silhouette of him. I said to my friend......look at that guy with the Top Hat on. Little did I know what greatness I was about to experience. Thank you for the music. Rest in Peace.

I have been a fan of Leon, too, since I was about 14.I'm also 58 years old.The first time I heard eon was when my oldest brother came to Ohio from California for a visit. He brought Leon with him and I was instantly hooked. This is the first that I've been able to watch his memorials, because you see, my mom went to heaven that morning too.I like to believe they entered those pearly gates together.I saw Leon last year in Cleveland,Ohio-he used to play the Beachland ballroom with Joe Cocker frequently. When I heard about his passing I immediately thought of him singing "His eye is on the sparrow".We miss you Leon.

I was a little girl in mountains of Arizona and my parents had that 3 album live show recorded in Long Beach and I would dance to Leon on our picnic table while my mom worked in the garden pulling weeds. Best time of my life. I have family in Tenn and I would like to pay respects sometime if Leon is buried there. He is still to this day, one of my very favorites.

His music filled my life with wonderful memories of all the times I was fortunate to hear him tickle the ivories and pull out a song from his soul. I thank God Almighty for Leon Russell.
I had a Lady Blue. She became a Bluebird. I finally met Lady Blue 2. Never had to go back to the Island. Leon (from Tightrope): "I'm up on the tightwire flanked by life and the funeral pyre putting on a show for you to see" Special man. Special singer.
One of the best entertainers of my lifetime, Leon surely gave you his best performance....he was a kind considerate man who appreciated his fans and considered them friends... Leon has gone home to be with the Lord and we are surely going to miss the big man...thankfully his wonderful music will endure forever....God Bless this Good Man.
May2016, Seattle, WA Neptune Theatre...4th row...god it felt good to see Leon again...told him I loved him; and he replied back with,"I love you, too" man, that felt so good to be recognized by someone if his caliber. R.i.p. Leon...love you forever...
I Love Leon even though he is no longer here on earth, he is still with us in his music! I remember the first time I saw him with the top hat and holy trinity shirt! I said what a beautiful man he is! I have all his records! And then, Leon and Mary made the Wedding Album! So Beautiful! Heaven sent and then another! I was so sad when they didn't make another one. However, Leon still kept going and I still listen to him and love him! He is just so like home and yet, beyond! His lyrics speak of all life's conflicts and blessings! That's why he is so beloved by so many people!
Loved hearing about some of the history and poignant stories about this great and talented icon. His music became a part of my life from the first time I saw him in concert at the Wharehouse in New Orleans in 1974; I was a fresh new high school grad. It has been a part of my life ever since. No matter the passing of time when I listen to his music I go to a happy and grounded place. His music will always be a part of my life. He will be greatly missed. Until the next life, soar high Leon.
been listening to him since 75, saw him & Mary in Chalmette in 76, next time was in Tips in 82, multiple times over the years including another at tips. His music is timeless

Heaven Has Its Piano Player. The Angel Band Just Got A Lot Better. Our World Will Never Be The Same. Thank You Victory Baptist Church...we would have attended if we could have....
Leon was a authentic writer. He embodied a very remarkable period of time where dreams were something special and full of illusions int the liberal revolution of 60s, and 70s.He will live FOREVER!!
I watched and listened to this memorial in tribute, respect, and gratitude because I felt I owed it to him - we never met, but he gave me so much. I was one of the lucky ones to see him with Mad Dogs and Englishmen at Winterland in SF - I was utterly galvanized and could easily see that what was happening there was flowing through him. I followed his life and career from that day forward - he was the real deal, a quiet powerhouse of talent and integrity - he made my life better for having touched it. Thanks and blessings from one of the millions...
I experienced Mad Dogs and Englishmen in Los Angeles all those years ago and was also thrilled for life...thank you for expressing so well what I'm feeling. Rest in light, Leon.
Tablature -- Was also at that Mad Dogs and Englishmen San Francisco concert so many years ago -- will never ever forget it. (Wow - Leon Russell and Joe Cocker) You are absolutely right -- we could see the music, spirit and passion flowing through him.
Thank you so much for this beautiful service which he so much deserved !! Also, Thank you Elton John for everything you done for him. ...So happy that he was inducted into The Rock in Roll Hall of Fame .......
Wow! He was quite an artist. My husband and I wore out his albums and replaced them when we were so young. We saw him perform just this year at the Star Gazers Theater in Colorado Springs. It was so awesome and we are so glad we went. 43 years later! God has a special place for that great man.
I remember when I first became acquainted with Leon. I was in college. He was on stage within a close group of friends and family. He sang in a manner that was unique, unforgettable. I miss him. Amazing Grace. Many thanks and blessings to Jan for loving him so deeply and well.
I happen to be one of those millions and millions of people that Leon interpreted a way of life, maybe even a guidance in my life in soul! Just a stranger in a strange land!
Started listening to Leon with Carney album, after hearing Tightwire on the radio. Been a fan ever since. As years went by I discovered his past music and all the music he wrote, produced and other artists he has worked with. RIP, Leon. Your music will live on through the years with your fans.
Thank you for posting. Truely heart felt and will be missed. Thank you for the music in my lifetime. God has blessed us with you. Rest in peace and now sing to the Lod. Love you always.

RIP Mr. Leon Russell, yes, truly you were a genius and your music will not be forgotten. Very simple and authentic funeral. I was incredibly moved. What a force, talent and poet. We, your fans, in mourning.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful tribute with us; I was lucky to see Leon Russell every time he came to town, and it was so wonderful to hear so many stories. Blessing on the family, friends and fans who are missing Leon, and may he be in heaven embraced by pure love.
Beautiful service for Leon. I look forward to seeing the public one. Wish I could have gone, but he knows his fans will always take his love with them where ever they go, in their heart, forever.
That spirit of '69, '70, '71 that Leon made into his, our Music is deep in me, and Always his Music of then Sparks it Alive. So glad I got to see him at the little Bing (Crosby) Theater in Spokane, Washington in April 2015 and was able to run up to the front of the stage just as he was slowly getting up with his cane, facing the audience as they began going. I mouthed "Thank you! Thank you!" and blew him a kiss and bowed with Namaste. I don't know if he saw me behind his dark glasses but I know I sent my love out to him -- which is what Leon Russell brought up in us with his Music. I am grateful I was alive on our Earth for some of the time he was.

I had a Lady Blue. She became a Bluebird.
I finally met Lady Blue 2. Never had to go back to the Island.
Leon (from Tightrope):
"I'm up on the tightwire
flanked by life and the funeral pyre
putting on a show for you to see"
Special man. Special singer.

I can. In the beginning, My step-Mother Bonnie Bramlett starts it off with "A song for you" and "Superstar"
Mikkol Soter, she sure did him proud. Beautiful voice.
An American Treasure! "Can't Separate The Music From The Man - Can't Separate The Man From The Music"! Thank You Leon Russell!!

Got to see Leon Russell in '77 at the Universal Amphitheater. Him and his wife were facing each other on keyboards. RIP Leon.

Leon Russell You Will Be Loved by many be missed by many more listen to your music till the day I die a wonderful man to put out just wonderful music
Oh Leon, ya made me cry when ya had to leave! Rest easy and thank you.
