As I was heading north, nearing sunset, across the desert - with the colors you get and the phantom shapes that are part of the desert - this song came on. It was amazing!
Anastasia XII my sisters are now just getting into pink. They missed that boat as well, but that boat can always be boarded. Anytime. I believe they went for the more romantic styles, but that's my opinion.
Wish you were here and Dark side are amazing too, but I've listen to both of them and still my favorite song is echoes, you should hear it with a bit more of attention ;)

Actually, I have these great albums along with most of the others, including some of the less well known ones, like Atom Heart Mother, Obscured by Clouds, etc. I like them all but Echoes is still my favorite track. Far less commercial than Dark Side but brilliantly and uniquely executed in a way that no other band can match. Just my opinion and I certainly respect yours.
Martyn, I've been listening to Pink Floyd since inception. "Several small species small furry animals gathered together in a cave and grooving with a Pict." And the only thing that I can reiterate is that Pink Floyd has never been known for in it's quest through the ages is it's commerciality. They've only been commercially successful by their not pursuing that same commercial success. In true provocation; each album was, in their eyes, a unique endeavor in and of itself.
Pink Floyd's music is there where when you are capable of actually listen to it and take it in, you easily forget EVERYTHING around you. This is called psycadelic for a reason.

When I'm asked what kind of music I listen to, it's Death Metal, Celtic Metal, Industrial Metal, Classic Metal, Classical (Bethoven, Bach, Vivaldi etc..), and Pink Floyd. I have been an Industrial Metal guitarist since the 80's but since even before I played, any time I've ever been asked who I thought the best guitarist is my answer has always been David Gilmour. No, I've never heard him fly his fingers all over a fretboard like Edward Van Halen or Alexi Laiho or Yngwie Malmstein, but I've nevere heard anyone come even remotely close to being as able to express emotion and feeling through their instrument.

A wonderful addition to my study/work playlist. Very long length leads to fewer jarring transitions, yet constantly changing so that I don't notice repetition.
