Amy Adams and Andrew Garfield chatted during a taping of Variety‘s “Actors on Actors” on a range of topics, including their portrayals of comic-book icons.
I've seen a few of these interviews and some of them do not have great conversation. Lady Gaga and Jamie Lee Curtis: Actors on Actors Full, this is a great interview.
Have you heard a Newcastle, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Sunderland British accent? He has a posh southern English accent. They don't all sound like that.
I've noticed Amy always adapts to the people she's speaking to. She's very aware. She's not someone who's overly confident and draws all attention to herself, but instead rather quiet and observant. It feels like watching a psychologist. Adapts her tone and what she speaks about to her opposite. Asks the right questions and says the right things, the power of introverts
That’s so interesting actually because I was watching a Hollywood reporter round table that she was apart and the interviewer asked everyone what they would pursue if they didn’t act. She answered that she would get a degree in psychology or sociology, so you were spot on!

Not all actors and actresses are as self-aware and hold such a responsibility to their audience and such seriousness to their craft like these two you're looking at...especially Andrew Garfield, whose entire filmographic (a word?) resume is nothing but roles that really speak to humanity and provide much more to the viewer than the average garbage you see pumped out of the Hollywood machine. Some actors just do whatever crap is thrown their way, just shallow, meaningless, and frankly stupid scripts, and those people don't really evolve as people or spiritual beings. There is a very clear distinction between people like this and others in the "celebrity" light, and I can see why broad strokes are painted on these people because actors like Andrew aren't the majority or the norm.
Yeah, i see that actors really feel comfortable interview other actors instead of being interviewed by a journalist. This interview make each actors more comfortable
I think Andrew has an extremely deep understanding of the universe. Just by the few words he was able to talk about it, I felt it bro. I want to have a chat with him one day.
The way Andrew talks about the Spidey movies :/ really loved him as both Spider-Man and Peter Parker, and Spider-Man is my favorite hero too, so it's heartbreaking to learn that he signed on to the movies to make great stories but then learning that the studio/machine has another plan in mind that compromises story and characters.
@@neilsonblack3829 That's not true. They are making lies just to find a reason to cancel the franchise because of the critics due to poor writing of the film. It has nothing to do with Andrew. Of course other people could interpret that same thing as niavete or dullness. But since it's all subjective I really do feel it is a kind of purity. And it's beautiful.
Andrews spiritual awareness about himself and everything and everyone around him is off the charts And Amy’s emotional awareness about everything and everyone around her is off the charts And seeing these two blend together is quite interesting

Agreed. They seem to value big explosions of anger and miserable-crying rather than quiet, genuine acting like Amy does, which I believe is more difficult to do than those insane acts.
I could watch these two chat for another two hours. Very cool, down to earth actors here. Amy Adams is a doll and I love how she still seems so 'normal' even though she has worked in Hollywood for years. She really knows how to balance work and life. Garfield has already bypassed many established actors his age and proven that his career will be A-list only from here on out.
You know, for being 42, Amy Adams look pretty damn amazing. If someone told me she is like 35, I would have believed them. She still has that girly quality, or how to say it. She does not come off like an older person. Stunning woman.
This was a lovely, engaging segment, and quite candid, as well. Glad to see them genuinely interested in each other, and their processes. They should work together, sometime, if they haven't done so already.
Elmer Ortiz yeah, she deserves it too, but Amy was nominated 5 times before, so I think she could get it. Unless she is considered the next Glenn Close 😂 so many nominations and still no Oscar

That was a very special half hour and I do hope there will be more of this with either or both of you in the near future.
Adams works on screen because she perfectly mirrors what the audience may be feeling at any particular moment. shock, surprise, sadness, grief. It's as if Adams is at once on the screen and in the audience.
I bet part of why Amy doesn't mind mentioning her age is because people respond shocked, thinking that she looks so much younger (and still so incredibly beautiful) ❤️❤️❤️
sometimes its hard to relate to some of the things they say about their job and about their experiences but then you hear something so simple and so universal and then you realize they are just simply, people
I've been watching all his movies and I just have to say that he is one of the most brilliant actors of our generation and is criminally underrated. The way he can act these characters in movies is always so heartfelt and moving, even though all the movies hes done are so different from eachother, he can pull off any role and it is just amazing to watch. im so grateful to have found andrew at my worst and I love him so very much and hope to meet him one day
Amy Adams was supremely brilliant and should have been rewarded for her role in American Hustle. She looked gorgeously convincing as a 70’s/80’s high-class grifter. Can’t wait for her re-teaming with Christian Bale in the upcoming Vice
A lovely conversation with parts that gives us an insight into the real personalities of both actors. They are both very good listeners, honest down to earth people which helps the conversation flow beautifully. A good match.
As for Amy's performance, I've always seen her as an actress that can communicate a lot through her eyes and facial expressions, even if she remains silent, which is very meaningful in this movie where it's all about communicating on different levels. Also, I loved that she said the director wanted her to feel like she had "vertigo" as he used a filming technique (for the scene when they enter the spaceship for the first time and move through dimensions in a confusing way, making you feel disoriented in terms of what is up and what is down or what is back and what is forward) that was invented by Hitchcock in Vertigo for the first time. Truly remarkable parallels.
I've always loved these two because they both epitomize genuine talent, authenticity, and emotional expressiveness. That's why they both look so young for their age. They both deserve to win Oscars, especially Amy.

That was a very special half hour and I do hope there will be more of this with either or both of you in the near future.
honestly thank you @Variety for these videos it's great to see actors talk about their work so genuinely with one another
The synergy between these two actors is compelling. Did you know that they're both born on the 20th August. Amy (1974) and Andrew (1983).
They have the most unique chemistry. They should be in a movie together.
Well they share the same birthday August 20th
amy deserves an oscar like now
Adams works on screen because she perfectly mirrors what the audience may be feeling at any particular moment. shock, surprise, sadness, grief. It's as if Adams is at once on the screen and in the audience.
iggy082 interesting
I bet part of why Amy doesn't mind mentioning her age is because people respond shocked, thinking that she looks so much younger (and still so incredibly beautiful) ❤️❤️❤️
Because of the saying that asking someone's age is rude? Particularly people her age.
sometimes its hard to relate to some of the things they say about their job and about their experiences but then you hear something so simple and so universal and then you realize they are just simply, people
well they didn't talk themselves out of words. great chat
The Leonardo DiCaprio meme should be passed on to Amy Adams now.
Please explain.
@@JohnSmith-cv5pj cos she still hasn't won an Oscar for some reason
@@SkullScoper Yeah she lost 6 or maybe +6 nominations by now.
I just love Amy even more this year after Nocturnal Animals and Arrival
Truly remarkable parallels.
damn amy is SO beautiful!
Those christian-louboutin shoes look so good on them!!!
I've always loved these two because they both epitomize genuine talent, authenticity, and emotional expressiveness. That's why they both look so young for their age. They both deserve to win Oscars, especially Amy.
Amy better be nominated for best actress this year
