Wayne and I have had a number of meals at ship A shore over the years. I really enjoyed the The food. Thank you so much for bringing back such fond memories.
Oh my gosh, I had no idea it was demolished. I worked there in 1975/76 - was one of my favorite jobs- waitress and hostess when I was young. What a deal...
That's progress. Out with the old in with the new. See plenty of that here in Silicon Valley. Nothing lasts longer than 20 years any more. The land is too valuable. 👱♀️👋🐾🐸
Thanks GasquetMike for capturing and creating such a beautifully done video, which captures the visual and emotional history of part of Ship Ashore. My Dad, Chuck Thielen, was the manager, who helped the Westbrook Brothers plan and create the layout of the ship and the motel. He insisted the ship needed to be closer to the highway, to attract tourists. If he were still alive, I don't think I would want to hear what he would have to say, about how this all turned out.
Thanks for the video Mike. I was 19 and worked there as a nighttime janitor back in '75. The night after the murders I was there cleaning and walked out to my pickup to go home at about 3AM. I had never really noticed the sculpture of the man holding a rifle on the roof until that moment. Given what had just happened and being there alone in the middle of the night...when I walked out and saw that...I nearly dropped a load right there. I have felt that type of panicked fright twice...once at huge Sunset Beach Hawaii and right there in that parking lot. What happened to those poor souls was beyond comprehension then and still now.
My dad had a chiropractic practice right next to there in the late 70's. He was hit and killed by a drunk driver in CC, 1979. My family met at that restaurant and on the way in I saw a pic of my dad on the front page, still in the car, in the paper machine at the entrance. Bought one and took em all so his mom and brothers wouldn't see. We stayed in the hotel too. I still love the area and had thought I'd move up some day. The Smith is the finest river I've seen but I'm hitting 70 this year and will probably stay here in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Sad to see the place in this condition but time does change everything.
Thanks for posting
I've enjoyed some wonderful times at the ship , I'm hoping the tribe makes it an enjoyable location again..
Great footage, excellent editing, and very fitting music for this video. Thank you for sharing this. Mixed emotions for sure.
Thank you!!!

I stayed there in the summer of '81 with my parents. I remember the restaurant had great food. Sad it's gone now. ❤

Sad how the old things make us aware of how much in life we have witnessed. Taking down these old memories erases physically our youth.

I bet..
North of CC if I remember correctly. Sad to see but time marches on. Also heading up tomorrow morning.
Today the 24 of June I think they are removing the restaurant.
Thanks Mike! I always send these to our family!

Sorry for your loss. 😢 And shame on the newspaper for doing that.

@@RoadKingRob thank you!!!!!
I had my own motel room for some of my senior year in 1966. We lived in the ship for a while before they moved it and built the Motel there.
Cool
Do you know if there building something else there? Also can you fish there and is it any good? I really enjoy your videos, Thanks Mike
Im not sure about what they are going to do, I think you can fish there when its open...salmon season is closed again I think?
