Thank you for the great tips! I was planning a solo trip to Costa Rica but from the research i've been doing, it seemed like it was difficult to get around and also expensive. This video really helped me out. Thanks again!

I have been traveling to CR since 1996 and I agree with you, there really isn’t a big backpacking vibe.

Wow that’s amazing! Even though it’s not a backpacking country it’s still definitely worth visiting. What keeps bringing you back to CR?

Hello!! This video was sooo helpful! Its a bit sad for me, because I really wanted to go to Costa Rica because of the nature and the safety. I have a question, if CR is not the best place. What would be a good and safe option?

Sorry for the late reply. Don’t get us wrong, Costa Rica is still beautiful and worth visiting. But if you want to do a backpacking trip, we recommend Thailand, Philippines, Guatemala and even Mexico ahead of CR 😊

You can jump on the Monteverdi bus that stops by at the Liberia airport and pay 30 dollars max for a one way straight to Monteverde or if you have to catch a second bus to monteverde also altogether will be less than 30 bucks. Maybe 6000 per bus trip which is roughly 11 dollars

But usually for closer routes to each other like if you have to catch a second bus to get to Monteverde it will be like 3000 colones which is like 5 bucks

It sounds like you didn't plan properly. This is why you research and plan way in advance to know what route you want to do or avoid as well as how to get there.which can lead to know how much things will cost in those areas, and any public notice they have available about what's going on w/ roads/towns/flights etc. This sounds like you went on a whimy and had no structure. CR is a very popular place in general which means it'll be more expensive then other surrounding places. Definitely not a great take for fellow backpackers.

Why not take a bus? $10 almost anywhere.

We clearly found out about it too late 😭 But you're right, buses are the cheaper way, they are just slower and a bit more limited in terms of locations and timings. If we'd known about it before, we would've planned in accordance

I totally agree with you @tiquillo1000. I've only been to CR twice, 1st visit was 7 days in April 2021 & 2nd visit was 1 month, March 15 ~ April 15, 2022...San Jose, Puntarenas, LaFortuna, Tamarindo & lil towns in between. In my opinion, when you don't plan, anything goes!! Leaving SJO, if you don't have planned transportation, you're stuck with what's there...PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION!!! In my opinion, CR is NOT expensive, compared to the states, but other countries, .ie Mexico, Panama, Venezuela, well yeah, I guess🤷🏽‍♀️ As far as transportation though, catching a bus, taxi or uber, is fairly easy if you're ON TIME, but sometimes, as with any public transportation, things come up.
Bottom line is, ANY PLACE, ANY TIME, things will not always work out as planned, that's why you allow room/ time for errors & proceed accordingly 🤷🏽‍♀️ I'm surely looking forward to my next trip to CR...PURA VIDA❣️
