Weird match... mostly because referee was calling every little thing and gave at least 8 cards. Derrick Jones was in reality MOM for Charlotte (he plays for Crew this year and got a red card). That said Charlotte was better team even before the red. Charlotte in their first 2 seasons would have tied this match. Experience of coach Dean Smith made difference. Westwood should have stepped up to the penalty spot and much of the late drama would have been unnecessary. Agyemang made the argument he should start even if Copetti returns.

Charlotte was called for twice as many fouls and given twice as many cards. The truth was Columbus missed their chances, and their defense faltered in the final 10 minutes.
@@flakey_rl Did you not read jackson's comment? He said the ref was bad for BOTH teams. Just because Columbs are the reigning MLS champions, doesn't mean that they get favoritism on the pitch. Charlotte beat Columbus, fair and square. Even if Columbus hadn't gotten that red card, we would've still beaten them in the last 10 mins of the match.
@flakey_rl The ref was not "Charlotte's 12th man." He was a horrible ref period. Columbus still had chances and missed. A horrible clearance left Westwood open to score. Coming to complain about a ref to Charlotte fans when the fouls were 27-13 against Charlotte and gave Charlotte twice as many cards for similar challenges is not going to go well here. The ref sucks. We both agree. But get out of this space if genuinely believe all the calls went Charlotte's way. Both teams had a goal taken away. Columbus benefitted so much from the 27-13 discrepancy, but your memory holed it because Columbus failed their chances.

Ref was a fucking clown. Crew should’ve won but missing your head coach, losing two starters to injuries, getting a VERY questionable red card, and a goal called back from a terrible view, makes it near impossible to succeed

If that goal should've stood, than so too should our first goal of the match, because there was no foul on Columbus in that run of play. Face it - the ref favored neither team. We had more fouls called on us than Columbus. Your defense fell apart in the last 10 minutes of the match.

I've been defensive of the replacements, but this guy proves why NONE of the available refs (PRO and replacement) are terrible. Referees have too much influence on the game.
