- In stoppage time, the Thorns’ Morgan Weaver and Kansas City’s Kristen Edmonds shoved each other after battling for the ball in the corner of the field, they were shown red cards and sent off.

This was 100% the referee's fault. No 34 is being fouled repeatedly (pushing, striking, kicking, shoving) but she let that go on. No wonder what happened then. And to add insult to injury she shows red cards to the wrong players. I understand one red card was rescinded after an appeal but it is the referee who should have been severely disciplined by US Soccer.
Here's the problem. According to the LOTG, when a player is holding a ball in the corner, charging into their back is allowed. When a player instigates this contact with this tactic, most referees have little sympathy for the perpetrator getting a little roughed up.
It's FIFA who must fix this by making this stalling tactic that instigates aggressive challenges illegal.
Edmonds overreacted. She's lucky to only get a 2-game suspension for making deliberate contact with an opponent above the shoulders.
