Certainly a great flying day. Hope you guys 'down under' have some great model flying weather this summer. Here in the UK the hibernation period is not far off now. Watching this video and i am missing summer already!

Yep, everyone loves having fun. The sad thing is that if we don't stand up for our freedoms, days like this will become nothing more than memories as corporations and gullible politicians relegate the hobby to the history books in favour of profits.

I'm in the USA. This week, I bought 2 quadcopter flight controlle boards and 2 four in one ESCs, but no Remote ID modules. Don't tell the FAA!

25 years ago when I was still flying RC models, a competition spec aerobatic model went rogue possibly due to a previous flyers transmitter still being on. It hit a 10 year old lad 6 feet away from me in the back of the head, killing him instantly. After 40 years of flying, I ceased that afternoon. Never ve off your guard!
Fortunately the reliability of our gear is much higher these days and models are increasingly made of frangible and energy-absorbent materials (such as foam). However, as you rightly point out, one should always be keeping safety foremost in one's mind and, despite the very few tragedies that have occured, this remains one of the safest hobbies in the world, both for participants and onlookers.

I do appreciate the local ecology lessons, though. Who knew eggs sprouted out of poorly manicured grass in New Zealand?? Here in Maryland, they grow in neatly arranged cartons at the grocery store 👍

You really should start flying! It's a lot of fun and so much easier now. For awhile and if available stay with Spektrum horizon hobby if available. That yellow/gray carbon cub is pretty darn indestructible and has that same technology which really helps you starting off
Not so sure I'd go the Spektrum route... it's awfully expensive for what you get. Almost everyone around here flies Radiomaster because it's a lot cheaper, supports multi-protocol and ELRS and just works remarkably well. Spektrum is an option if you can afford it and you're prepared to pay a premium simply for the name -- but if that's what you prefer even then you'd be better to go Futaba or Jeti IMHO.
@@xjet I understand. i think maybe In the states it's cheaper? That Cub ready to fly is approx $300. With a decent beginner transmitter you can bind to other planes. one flight battery and really slow usb charger is included. You can add flaps.
I started with this plane on skiis. I hate winter !

Looked like a very relaxing, fun day at the field. I am in the US, and we are getting ready for winter soon. I'm flying as much as possible because soon it won't be fun. In northern Minnesota, it gets COLD, too cold to fly. Anyhow, Bruce, have you ever seen a flying wing powered by a ducted fan(or two)? It would make it much quieter.
Yes, with modern EDFs it would be quieter... good point.

@kylobear7991 I've been obsessed since my childhood, so I get it. I used to fly control line planes as a kid. Then I got into helicopters, and now I fly camera drones. I may try fixed wing next. I live near Wadena, MN. Where do you call home?

Hi Bruce! Another RC EYE - CANDY adventure! Love the aerial footage and music. That glider is light as a feather. Does it have a prop or is it just a glider? I just bought strobes for my two drones to do some night flights since we are heading into fall with less daylight. That's a DLG -- strictly hand-launch. I love DLGs and spend most of the spring terrorising the locals with my dangerous DLG :-)

This is one of your best videos. There's a wide variety of airplanes and you have some great footage of them. You even have some of God's aircraft in the pictures. Is the large black and white bird a New Zealand Crow?
The bird is a magpie... they're immigrants from Australia -- just like me :-)

Did that DLG catch some thermals or did the pilot just launch it that hard? looked pretty high.
Hooked a thermal. We have some really strong lift in the spring. You can throw your transmitter up and it'll circle for several minutes before coming back down :-)

Year after year of FPV madness has left the US with more draconian RC rules than China and all but the worst dictatorships like Russia, Venezuela, and North Korea. I used to fly helis and Neil used to fly helis -- the problem is (from my perspective anyway) that they're pretty expensive to fix when you run out of talent or there's an unexpected gust of gravity.

I think Ash's model is a YF22 -- they look very similar but the YF22 has a swept-forward trailing edge on the vertical stabs and the F-35 has a swept-back trailing edge.

Damn i do miss the hobby.... sold all my stuff 3 years ago... Planes,heli's the lot...however i do fly MSFS2020 in VR and its bloody amazing. Still nothing beats going outside flying with friends.. ;-)
