    I have had the Nexus Standard Mp version 1 for quite a few years now here in California. I eventually got the 9 inch Silver Scout coil for trashy areas and it does help. I found that if I put some old rusty square nails together on the ground and then turn up the discrimination until it cancels the nails out that I can actually cover a coin with the nails and the Nexus will still pick up the coin and ignore the nails. My deepest coin that I found with the stock coil was an old wheat penny that was easily over 2 feet deep and the Nexus was slamming on it. It is a detector that you have to put some time in to dial it in. At the beach I was getting a non ferrous signal and dug up a ring that was ferrous metal but gold plated, the Nexus picked up the plating. Over the years I have found a lot of coins with that detector, but like a lot of detectorist I have several different metal detectors to choose from so I don`t always use it. If Nexus ever came out with one just like the version 3 but also included the digital VDI numbers that detector would be killer.

    The detector definitely speaks to you differently as seen in the video. With this thing it's more like an exploration tool than a metal detector. It's so different than what the mainstream metal detectors out there are putting in our brains. And that makes it interesting. I can see though one best be prepared to dig very deep holes.

    Impressive machine Merrill. I hunted from 1972-2016 with analog detectors. I have a small collection ranging from a 1954 White's Oremaster Super geiger counter. My newest analogs are all White's in perfect working condition. Last week I did a test with identical crossed nails by themselves, and another set with a quarter beneath. I tested my White's 6000 di pro, and my White's Eagle II both with nails disced out. Neither of them could pick up the quarter. Then I used my F75 with a disc of 6, it did not pick up the nails, but on the nails with the quarter it gave me an iron tone with a quick high tone a couple of times. I used my Deus I in the hot program and it did a little better than the rest. But the one that kicked but was my 1990 White's Amphibian II. I disced out the nails, and when I went over the one with the quarter it pounded the quarter out with no problem. I have a few places with lots of iron that I want to go test it at, but it needs to cool down a little first. Those hardwired headphones on it are extremely hot. I look forward to more hunts from you with the Nexus.

  • @MetalDetectingwithCZkidd

    With a digital detector and its filters, you have only so many levels. For instance, you may have a specific function with a range from, lets say 0 to 6. 0 would be off, 6 maximum. What is the % you are adding or subtracting in 6 steps of the specific function? 0 = 0%(OFF), 6 = 100%. So every time you press the button to go to 1 or 2 or 3, that is a 20% change in the filter or function. 2 presses and you've increased/decreased the filter or function by 40% that's huge. With POT switches or knobs, you can pretty much utilize the entire range to your specific needs. I really enjoyed using the White TDI Beach Hunter, as you could dial it in tight or loose as you like. With digital detectors, the similarities are there, but with less precision. I am sure some of the code they write for these digital detectors offset and help, but potentiometers are the way to go. Nice vid M.

    Hi how are you? I watched your video searching with the Nexus metal detector. It seems to me that you have to put in a lot of effort, for very little reality with great depth. I think it's better to use a new generation metal detector, For example, Minelab's Manticore detector. And with it you can choose what to dig, even to a depth. Less work, more reality, no matter what terrain conditions. Thank you so much for the videos you upload to CZcams, they help me become a better metal detector operator. Keep uploading more videos

    Interesting detector and good video Merrill. The Nexus reminds me of my old analog Whites coinmaster but on steroids. An old timer showed me the ‘hunt on threshold’ mode a long time ago and it worked pretty good on mineralized soil, I see you used a similar technique here. I guess the last thing on my mind is that this seems like an excellent relics machine, where you really are looking for that deep deep iron.

    To really test this detector you could have also bought a detector you had already used here and when you got a target with the Nexus, run over the same target and see whether you hear it with the other detector. If so, then the targets you are finding are just targets you might not have 'missed' but just go didn't 'go over'.

    Merrill the first coil seems to be a concentric coil. They feel much different then the DD coils in which most if not every detector I've seen you use have. You're Whites BHID had a concentric coil. They feel different because they function much different. DD's compress the transmit/receive magnetic fields down the center. It's supposedly for better separation but an experienced hunter with a good detector can separate targets by ear with a concentric coil. The DD's IMO double tab too much and they can't pinpoint nearly as accurately as a concentric coil can. Most of my learning curve on these new machines aren't the functions in the detector it's their DD coils. Truthfully I'm personally on the fence as if they're better. On a same diameter coil the concentric always goes deeper unless the detector using it isn't equal in quality as the one with the DD. That and if the user doesn't understand it and over powers the receiving coil over the transmitting coil.
    That coil you're calling the China digging coil is more of a butterfly or a (SEF) coil. That means it measures more from side to side then it does from the top to the bottom. This too is a 20+ year old coil design. I figured it out. I see what companies are doing. They're using different set ups of past adjustment features to make a current detector that's different from others that's popular today. It's like taking an older high end machine and teaching people to learn a few features at a time then others use a few different features instead of just spending the time to slow down build a modern day digital versions of the old heavyweight machines that had all these features and more but nobody ever took time to teach the customers how to use them. I'm starting to think it was because 20+ years ago detectorists who were already experienced knew what to do. They never thought it out that to a newbie their head is gonna explode be ause they paid $1,200 for a detector and can't dig a 6 inch quarter be ause it was never highlighted that if you adjust some setting you "must" adjust certain others with it equally of you basically disabled the detector. Sure it will always work no matter how bad you screw up the settings but it's not the sniping machine you spent a grand on!!!
    Here's a way to think of it. If a guitar string is out of tune it sound like crap and won't perform. But maybe it's not that string out of tune it's the other that were and it was tuned in another key. Whether or not if any string isn't tunde to it's assigned note the guitar can still sound good if the other 5 strings are tuned with it and not to their normal assigned not? Factory settings tune your machine in harmony to work/sound a certain way. But now you can manually tune the machine to be higher or lower as long as each setting is in harmony with the others. Cranking up sensitivity only causes chatter unless it's balanced our with cranking up the receiving part of that equation. Or lowering the sweep and recovery speed is useless if you whip the coil fast or adversely raise the sweep and recovery speed then trying to hunt low and slow it's not gonna happen. Detectors are like a guitar. It's all got to be tuned in harmony within itself to work properly and make beautiful music 😂. When I go over silver using my favorite machine I know that sound and it's rarely off and that's a beautiful thing. Nobody ever wants to hear the call of the Sirens. You think you hear sweet music and suddenly you crash into the rocks and that's kind of like when their audio gives a solid silver sound and the smile crashes when they discover its iron falsing and it's another nail. Chalk up another victim falling to the false sounds of the Sirens lol lol lol

      I re read it being I remember writing late at night which is always a bad thing. I'm gonna have to go through and fix the grammer, typos and I don't know what I did if I erased things and messed up trying to fix it or what but when I fix it it'll be a lot easier to under stand what I was talking about. Pretty soon I'll be making short videos for Tik Tok until I make longer videos that I can put on you tube. But I don't just want to do hunts I want to do a thing where maybe each week we go over a different setting. I already thought of the few on showing how coils function that I think people would like to see to build up enough people to follow me to CZcams. I have like 1,100 followers which isn't millions buy it's enough to go live in real time and I got those without even posting 1 pic or video lol just buy talking live to people detecting and asking to try testing something lol??? Or maybe they like my pic holding a 56 lb stripe bass I caught IDK what it was but I hit the numbers I need. Then I'm gonna be unique and hold class lol. Seriously I'm gonna either get a chalk board or large paper and explain it by how it makes the field that hits the target then how the target reacts to being hit by a magnetic field so I can show why DD's like to double tap targets and sound different if you swing left to right or right to left. Non repeatable doesn't mean it's not a good target that's a bad myth and it's easier to explain on paper and then it will make sense to some people. Hopefully to a lot. Then the difference how concentric coils do it. I still prefer concentric coils I don't like pinpoint with DD's once you open a hole I notice they go silent sometimes while pinpointing, This doesn't happen with concentric coils so I figure people would like videos drawn out so they see this mysterious electro magnet "slinky" lol. You'll get it once you see the field drawn out. Right now I'm slipping out to squeeze in a small hunt to start getting the rhythm back.
      Well get there

  • @paulwarrenmetaldetecting

    Merrill I need to correct you on something, it's not possible for targets to be out the range of the VCO, when the unit is set correctly the VCO is what you use to identify super deep targets, it's never wrong and one of the main standout features of the V3

    • @paulwarrenmetaldetecting
      @paulwarrenmetaldetecting Před rokem

      @@MetalDetectingNYC No problem, also the other thing to take into account, when measuring the depth of a target, you have the "in ground" measurement then the "above ground, air" measurement depending on how high you're swinging the coil, remember that Nexus detects deeper in the ground than in air. That wheat penny was about 11 inches in the ground and another 2 to 3 inches above so the unit was hitting it at at least 14 inches in total. Also it helps once you've found a target to then shorten your swing and rotate 360, this will allow the machine to provide more information.
