    For me, I would include Night of the Living Dead, scanners, War of the Worlds original. I also love Things to Come. A 1936 movie based on HG Wells. Kind of mix of scifi and post apocalypse.

    I've a large collection of DVDs, blu-rays and 4Ks and no movie is more treasured in my collection than the Criterion 4K of "Shaft." Every word you said about it, Level, is true, then and now. It captures the raw grittiness of '70s New York City as only two other films did -- Scorsese's "Taxi Driver" and his "Mean Streets" debut.

    Top 3 Criterions to recommend to you!
    Repulsion (1965) Directed by Roman Polanski and starring Catherine Deneuve. A psychological drama I think you would like by your tastes in films.
    Charade (1963) Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, Walter Matthau, James Coburn. The most Hitchcock film not Hitchcock. It is a must see.

    One Criterion title that I bought last year and love is Equinox. It's a super low budget stop motion animation live action hybrid that I loved growing up. It's only available on DVD, but it perfectly captures the feel of watching it on Chiller Theater. I also bought that huge Godzilla set last year. Hoping to get Shaft, Pink Flamingos, and some Cronenberg titles, as well as Breathless either this month or in November.

    I just received my Criterion disc The Great Beauty in mail yesterday from Amazon. The hard plastic case badly broken on two corners. This is the second broken disc case I've gotten from Amazon this year, out of about only six orders/packages total. Every disc I buy from Amazon comes in an unprotected thin plastic or paper envelope. So frustrating, cause after I mail it back tomorrow for a replacement, it will take at least two full weeks to finally get it, and praying that disc or case won't be also be broken. I just started buying and collecting select blu ray movies in past 6 months and so these broken blu-ray cases seem to be relatively high.

  • @rsbbutler1314
    @rsbbutler1314 Před 2 lety

    I've watched so many criterion pick up and recommendation videos from so many CZcamsrs and not one of them have talked about The Naked Prey. It's such a good action/suspense movie from a one man band, Cornel Wilde, who produced, starred, and directed the movie. If you like The Running Man, The Most Dangerous Game, Apocalypto, the Hunger Games, Hard Target, et al, you would love this movie. It is certainly an oeuvre of its own, but it is among the best. The story is taken from a supposedly true old west story about a trader who was stripped naked and hunted by Native Americans in the early 19th century and his successful escape from their pursuits, according to the notes inside the dvd; swapping Native Americans for African Tribesman in the 1860s. It combines action, suspense, and I think actual snuff movies of big game animals being killed, as well as a fantastic stripped back soundtrack of only percussion and the singing voices of African tribesman, its a fantastic movie. I only have the dvd, and it looks like a blu ray sometimes, especially close up scenes, the transfer is totally excellent.
