I was little when the teens were crushing on him. Just saw his work four decades later by following childhood nostalgia breadcrumbs on CZcams after my fiftiethbday. I knew his song and his face then. . Now I have discovered someone I really enjoy seeing and listening to. I was eight when his biggest hit came out, so too little for crushes, but, shall we say, I do indeed understand why a whole generation of bigger girls were captivated.
I met his brother on the set of The Last Boyscout. I started dating Irish Mike Nixon and the whole group was against that. Well I am married to Irish Mike Nixon since the early 90's...I guess it worked out. Would be nice to to talk to his brother to see how things worked out with the gal he was dating at that time. Cheers!
Johhny Thompson ...I follow Rex on Facebook, he seems like a really nice guy in his older years, happy and healthy good looking and his cooking looks delicious. I'm still crushing on him.. haha
After watching the movie on CZcams, I experienced the same feeling when I saw it the first time at 14 so I had to buy it. I was the same age that Denise was portrayed so all the same feelings she was exhibited, I was too.
Oh wow what a great find..I've never seen this..They sound great together..Marie has a beautiful voice and she's a beautiful woman. Thank you Dave for posting!
I haven't heard this song in years. Marie and my Solid Gold boo Rex Smith did a great job on this Air Supply classic. Thanks for sharing this Dave. I look forward to more tubular Osmond moments. 🎶💟🧑🏼🌌😏
Saw Rex Smith and Linda Ronstadt in Pirates of Penzance on Broadway in 1981 senior year of high school. I knew something was different about me when the guys couldn’t stop talking about Linda while I couldn’t stop thinking about Rex. 😂
Are there any videos of Rex Smith doing Pirates of Penzance that you found. I knew by his bio he had already been doing it when cast in Sooner or Later movie and then resumed that role! Funny yah.
They sound great together and what a hot couple/duet! Marie's just so beautiful & classy. Rex is always a hot gentleman. Wonder why they never hooked up.
I grew-up in the same town as Rex however, he is about 6 years older than me so we never had any real contact..It was just a huge deal when he became famous, and I can remember listening to the 45 of his over and over, and over ..Lol
As Marie said, this was originally done by Air Supply - Air Supply is an Australian band formed in Melbourne, Victoria in 1975. Comprising Graham Russell from the UK on vocals and guitar and Russell Hitchcock from Australia on vocals. Even The Nights Are Better was one of two hits for Russell and Graham in 1982
His single "You Take My Breath Away" was a huge hit back then. If I remember correctly, he also starred on Broadway in "The Pirates of Penzance" ( don't know if I spelled that correctly). Yes, he was quite the hottie back then.
@@birdsfan57 He starred in ALOT of Broadway musicals He opened for several Rock bands, including Ted Nugent. His big break came when he starred in the movie "Sooner or Later." The next day, his world changed. Us teenage girls were cuckoo over him. 🤣

Rex was my first first crush. Saw the movie, Sooner or Later, bought the album, and played it over and over and over. Always loved Marie Osmond too, I saw Air Supply 2 years ago. This duo did it much better.
It had EVERYTHING to do with respect for oneself and your "partner", reflected in songs that centered around tenderness and love. Sadly, the recording industry and mass media, over the past 20 yrs or so, has introduced and pushed an agenda that has DESTROYED youth and American culture to believe that the "hooker/pimp, street ghetto" mentality is the NORM and, thus, must be adopted and embraced by our new generations. The American Music Awards on ABC just a few nights ago was a sad, sad spectacle and example of just how we have DEVOLVED as a society and what we have allowed our young people to deem as acceptable and normal, since this clip of Marie and Rex first aired back in the 1970's. I am just so disappointed and angry and sad for not only our children and grandchildren, but for society as a whole. They are being deprived of something that is so precious and irreplaceable (and truly NORMAL)!
@@birdsfan57 ❤❤ You're speaking the truth. For some reason the mass media seems to be intentionally breaking humans down, psychologically, emotionally. The 1970s/80s was the last time any positive feelings & messages were broadcast through mass media. The last 20-30 years most everything in media is negative & hurtful & cynical & warps people's minds, and as you stated breaks people down before they ever have a chance to learn & follow their own hearts into loving trusting relationships. This modern non-committal unloving uncaring hookup culture at best will become Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, but more likely will herald in a culture of instability & deep sorrow & depravity. Dear media moguls, please bring back to us wholesome music & education that's truly nurturing. We live in the greatest time now with more knowledge & resources than ever before in human history, let's make something POSITIVE of it. Sadly I'm fairly certain that The-Powers-That-Be know EXACTLY what they're doing. It's intentional, nefarious, benefitting only themselves with no regard to the billions of humans they're destroying mind, body, and soul. Those of us who RECOGNIZE this widespread psychological warfare, we can take the high road, rise above & ignore the hurtful sights & sounds all around us & protect ourselves & educate & protect everyone we love.
