    Thanks for the confidence, Vic! Excited to get stuck into the rebuild, will take plenty videos along the way. First, let's have a look inside!

    Thanks for the OD video. I’m going to tackle mine now.

    Jacking the rear end up as high as possible aids MK2 Jag engine removal if doing it through the top! Also Vic you add no extra weight fitting a 3.8 or 4.2 motor as they have identical size and weight as the 3.4, The 2.4 was lighter due to it's short stroke block.

  • @johnboyairey
    @johnboyairey Před rokem +1

    I take mine out from underneath.. subframe off, and drop it down, use crane to raise the car. Vic, if you think, a 4.2 has larger bores than a 3.4, so the block is lighter….it’s same block sort of.. so the 3.4 would be the heaviest! More cast iron remaining.. good luck fella.

    I bought a MK2 project, full of rust and seized engine. Looked at costs of engine and have decided to stick a BMW 3.0 turbo diesel in it. Restomod for me it is. Keep going though buddy.

      If I was going restomod, I'd probably go the bmw route too. But alas I have a big project that I want to get onto so trying not to over commit on the mk2

    great work vic, i'd be tempted to put throttle bodies and a full managed ecu on it, or at the very least electronic ignition only ecu

      I'm very tempted in the long term, it's a step too far atm in terms of workload

      @@vicsprojects its a great mod, one i am considering for my 3.8 mk2, got to get it going again first. keep at it though vic, the cars are beautiful.

    Vic,
    a 3.8 or a 4.2 should be no heavier indeed it may well be fractionally lighter as the bores are bigger in the same size block? Many say that the 3.4 is the sweeter running engine.
    I was also surprisedthat you pulled it out from the top, conventionally you drop the front sub frame and lift the body off the engine/gearbox?

    • @vicsprojects
      @vicsprojects  Před rokem

      Thanks for the fact checks, I was led to believe the block was bigger, I'll find out and correct in a later video

    • @iareid8255
      @iareid8255 Před rokem +1

      Hello Vic,
      a simple fact is that you can fit a 4.2 cylinder head onto a 3.8 or 3.4 block and gain a marginal power increase as it is a straight port head unlike the earlier less straight (inlet) port head.
      I'm just rebuilding my 3.8 and have elected to fit 9:1 compression pistons and fit 2" S.U.s as was done with the Coomes cars.

    Hey Vic. Liked the vid... Wondering what the bubbling water from the plug port will be... keep us up to date with all the results... Cracked head ?

    • @vicsprojects
      @vicsprojects  Před rokem

      Given the coolant was not milky in hoping its just the plug sealing surface and the water was from where it rained whilst taking the engine out 🤞

    Hi Vic, can i ask you a question about the overdrive, the wire which goes to the overdrive solenoid is that live?

    • @vicsprojects
      @vicsprojects  Před rokem

      The diagram I have shows the inhibitor is the first in series and gets the fused live feed. Note that both the dash switch and inhibitor are wired in series and therefore both carry all the current for the solenoid.

    Nice wheels. But not for a Jaguar Mk2.
    A nice set of wire wheels would be ideal for your car.

  • @brett7989
    @brett7989 Před rokem

    I don’t think there’s enough difference between a 3.4 and 3.8 to both so balance the shit out of it and thats the short block sweet. Now the head is a different story. Get some good advice on the head because a lot can be done there and don’t forget carbs and dizzy. Maybe think about a 5 speed manual

  • @petestuff1
