I remember getting to this part for the first time in Mgs2. When Snake said "There are close to 25 units, but I think we can deal" and Raiden's like "No way we can!" I'm assuming Snake has some sort of plan in mind since he said it so confidently, but then he says: "We can, because we have no other choice." I'm like "oh god we're fucked!"
Me: get attacked in real life by 3guys, thinking ufff Also me Videogame Veteran: start the fight with a drop kick with each food hit someone else stomach and actually win the ambush.
NRGHHHHH!!!!! > Stinger Missile > Frame Drops. The drop in frames and the increased time to lock on really added to my exhaustion in this fight...hated it even more on European Extreme. Literally one of the most frustrating fights on higher difficulties but if you've built a pattern it's easily beatable but it's just trying to stay consistent in that pattern and understanding what the Ray's are trying to do and not give them the chance to pepper you with bullets or worse...the cutter. Requires a lot of patience and mastery of repetition and sequencing. Not a hard fight if you've memorized the pattern, it's just time consuming. Story wise, I feel this is where Raiden pops his cherry and becomes a "man" or a legend in his own right...he held his own against an army of Rays like he was a vet. The rookie became his own legend which is kind of the irony of the game "Anybody can be shaped into a Solid Snake".
@@Jameslawz for me i had almost no performance drop on the metal gear ray part of the game, but i had insane frame drops when i first put on the night vision goggles or thermal goggles
25+ years playing video games and I can safely say that beating all the Metal Gear Rays on Extreme mode is one of my favourite/proudest gaming achievements, pure endurance while this awesome theme played in the background.
I remember up to this point when i was younger I liked having rose as company and would randomly call her. Now when I saw the rays names as different variations of rose.... *I got pissed.*
This part is actually very easy once you know the trick to take down Rays 3-4 missiles. Just stay close to the one in front of, it'll start spitting its laser (don't forget to dodge it), hit the inside of its mouth, repeat. You'll be too close for the 2 other Rays to do anything to you.
I love this soundtrack so much! So intense! And in speedruns, this is one of the final run killers. Especially in EU-Extreme difficulty. You can lose up to 5+ mins fighting 22 RAYS.
When I first played this boss, and the zoom into raiden before this battle, I was blown away. Like, I'm really gonna fight more than one of these things??? Rex and D in the last two games were hard enough lol
This gotta be one of my favourite bosses in the entire game, i wish there was an like boss rush mode in extras, where you have to destroy all 25 of them instead of 10(?)
Worst boss battle ever. Homing missiles whoop your ass when you don't even know. Missiles always coming. All you can do is use chaffs to make it easier on yourself. On Extreme you gotta do 20 OF THESE. I hated this shitty boss battle ever since the day I completed the game first.
@@jimhuffman9434 Raiden destroys a total of 20 RAYs on that mission (it instantly cuts to cutscene when you're about to take out the 20th one). 3 are destroyed by Solidus when they go haywire. The last two are pretty much missing, though chances are, you are seeing one of them in Revengeance.

He's a master of improvised tactics.
Indeed they would've died had Emma's virus not kicked in
"No sweat. Only twenty-five of these walking tin-cans to put down."
Snake: Close to 25 units but...I think we can deal
Raiden: No way we can!
Snake: We can because we have no other choice.
Sometimes if I'm in a jam, I think back to that line by snake. I know it's oddly specific but its helped me out.

The only thing this track is missing are the screams of RAYs
Along with the sounds of the RAYs’ machine guns, water cutter, and the sound of the Stinger launcher being used.
and not to mention if your playing on hard the mission failed song playing over and over again
This boss fight is why Raiden is every bit as awesome as Snake. Several metal gears destroyed by him in one epic fight.
The S3 Plan was a resounding success.
23 Metal Gear RAYs on extreme!
+huwisel I passed more than 10 hours trying to defeat Rays on extreme.
WHAT ABOUT EUROPEAN EXTREME ?
@@virgilebreuil4571 That was insanely difficult.
It’s actually 20 RAYs on European Extreme
Extremely tough but a very fond memory of mine, finally beating it.
I can still hear their weird screams
Those screams gave me nightmares
The only thing that can stand up to a Metal Gear is
another Metal Gear...or a blonde kid with a ton of stinger rockets...or an OP P90 (PogChamp)
Or a guy with “snake” as part of his codename.

Am I the only one who plays this boss fight for fun?
It's my favorite thing to do in the game.
In extreme is very fun when you know how to figth them without loosing life
One of the greatest, most inspired OSTs I’ve ever heard.

Virgin Snake destroys 2-3 old ass Metal Gears
Chad Raiden destroys 30 modern Metal Gears in a row
POV: you are getting jumped by 25 metal gears rays
Was I the only one that felt that the RAY'S were harder than Solidus? Lol.
Definitely, rays were way tougher then solidus
Individually, they're easy, but of course fighting 22 Metal Gears will be way harder then fighting some crusty old man

Easily the best boss fight in the game and one of the best parts in MGS2 as a whole.
The only moment who gets close to a dark soul in EX mode, I'm still counting all my death on my first try

Two things, what is the difference between this theme and the final boss theme?
And why did the Metal Gear RAY's Bleed... blood when you shoot them?!
They have synthetic muscles to help movability

I think the final boss theme has a slight difference
