- Crown princess Mary was once a common Aussie girl from Hobart. In OL in Sidney 2000 her feet got swept away when she met a Danish guy named Frederik on the bar Slip Inn. Frederik didn't say he was the heir to one of Europe´s oldest monarchies -that message came first later.
Mary is an absolute gift to Denmark, and his royal highness.
Maturity...'getting to know each other the old fashioned way, through words'.

I am Danish and we simply love Mary and Frederik, we are so lucky they met. We are a bit informal in Denmark and call the Crown Prince Frede, his nickname. He always said he would only marry for love and he searched the whole world to find her. We are so proud of this couple.
Meeting them through CZcams has been delightful. Apart from their obvious good looks, Frederik has the most engaging smile. I watched their wedding a few weeks ago, and your Queen is also just so lovely. You can see what beautiful families they both have.

@Philippa Pay, well part of it is look how grounded and Family First his family is. It makes a great difference. The Danish RF monarch seems to have achieved the very difficult - truly have a close united FAMILY and a successful monarchy
He is, but Mary made a big impact in helping him to become at ease with his role, as the future king of Denmark. Now he has managed to make his own mark.
His mother, the queen is a very intellec
tual, wellread and artistic person, and even exibits her art - paintings, decoupage, and illustrations of books (Lord of the rings) and as a translator of french novels. She also creates scenography and costumes to ballets etc.
Her son is quite different, He is a skilled frogman and completed a 3.500 km long sleigh ride through North east Greenland with 4 other men and 45 dogs - took them 5 month.
Now he has startede a tradition, called "Royal run" where he runs with the people each summer.
It has become an enormous succes, and spikes peoples interest in maintaining their psysical health.
90.000 people participated this year, in five of the major cities all over the country.
You can choose 5 or 10 km. And you are free to run, walk or drive a wheelchair, just as you like.
Frederik takes part alongside people, and even his children and Mary runs along in some of the races.
People love it, and it creates a feeling of affinity and cohesion amongst all.
He has definitely found his own way to thrive and define himself very strongly.
And to become comfortable in a path in life he did not choose himself.
He had a very strange upbringing ,living in the upstairs of the Palace with nannies and servants. He was not allowed to follow his careeer interests , although he was able to become a very good sportsman. He finally rebelled and became a rather sadperson , collecting parking fines ,and dating unsuitable girls > Then on 16/09/2000 he met Mary ,and she turned his life round 180degrees.
It took them 3 years to get permission to marry her ,but he never gave up. They appear to have the odd scrap like any other married couple . but most of the time they still look like young lovers . A copenhagen florist said recently that he is always coming in to buy her flowers ,and wrote her a poem for their wedding anniversary. Lucky Mary .
Life for Life should be renamed Lie upon lie for the sad rubbish it writes about then getting divorced . I would love to know who is posting this stuff ,and the reason why they are doing this.

She actually speaks English with a danish accent and danish with an Australian accent, according to his children. Her danish is very good ,but according to her children in January 2022, her Danish is NOT perfect. Her children try to help her ,but she does not always get it right.

You can't beat falling in love slowly in 'the old fashioned way'. Words are a magical component in communicating and it saddens me greatly that 'love letters' have been replaced with texts and emojis. Love this video!!
Love letters have been replaced by more opportunities to meet in person and discover common interests instead of a tsunami of flowery words.
Phone calls and long distance travel saved many relationships.
I was fortunate to have learned that lesson at an early age, when I met my "first love" my last year in high school. He was a freshman at a local college, and we met at an event on his campus. A few days later he called me from the college infirmary because he'd been hospitalized for a serious sports injury. So our first two months of dating took place in the infirmary ward. That circumstance meant that we got to know one another quite well over long conversations, before we went out on traditional dates like movies and parties. When I heard Mary speak about getting to know Frederik through words, I knew what she meant.

This is fantastic footage. I'd read about Frederik and Mary's first meeting and getting to know one another during Frederik's visit to Australia in 2000. All you have to do is see Frederik's expression whenever he looks at Mary throughout this video to know he was smitten by her from the moment they met. Their love story is so much more genuine than any of the UK royal romances. Thank you for uploading this.

Crown prince Frederik went to an expedition in Greenland before he met Mary and stayed in my hometown (Qaanaaq) with his crew. My mother partied and danced with him and his crew after finishing the expedition. His crew stalked my mother and one of her girlfriends outside of our house but that's another story 🤣 (my mother was a young single mother of two when this happened). My mother says that he's a true gentleman so no wonder he also found his perfect princess 😊
Edit: Crown princess Mary haven't aged a day, now that I think about it! Even after four kids! She's so stunning in her appearance but most in her mannerism

Queen Mary commonor background is the most regal person among her kind with a natural beauty and style. It's challenging and to get accustomed with a Royal family almost feels like living in a "glass house"
Because Frederick is so laid back, thanks to Queen Margareth letting her sons be themselves, he was able to get to know Mary relatively in private. Go out in shorts, have a tattoo on his calf muscle, do him. Best regal upbringing I've seen. He knew his job when it came and it made him able to have the best of both worlds.

Hello I love you tube...i've always been fascinated with royals and how they live. While watching You Tube one day, i came across The royal family of Denmark. I just have fallen in love so much that i even watch videos about them even though i don't understand a word of Danish. They are so down to earth, so relaxed. So much one would never think that they were even royal. Prince Harry was my favorite, now it's the royal family of Denmark. The Queen in all the videos i have seen of her, she is always smiling. Maybe other countries could learn a thing or two from the people of Denmark. Take care and God bless.

I saw the film on Sky last year about their meeting, romance and marriage. Being from the UK id never heard of their romance. How much the film represented the truth who knows but i enjoyed it. They seem a lovely royal couple and in other posts shes being interviewed in and with family she speaks Danish continuously. Probably explains why her natural Australian accent has nearly disappeared.

In general we have a really relaxed relationship to our royal family. Just look at his mother and you can completely understand how he turned out. I once saw a meme with Margrethe coming out of a supermarket with a juice box, a hotdog and a cigarette. Or look how she is cheering for her country at the Olympics vs Elisabeth who is sitting stoic. Englands royal family is still in the old royals are more than just humans mindset. They are more adamant on tradition. Here in Denmark we are allowed to be reminded that they are humans just like everyone else. Of course they are not just any family for example her sons had to marry someone foreign. A good example is my friend who is in no way wealthy at all once was at the same school as one of our princes because it was a completely normal public school. Our Royal family is not distant they are near and dear to us. It hasn’t always been like this really it started with Margrethe who over her 50 years as Queen has shown compassion and understanding. She has continued the modernization of the royal family her parents started and has done so really well. In 1972 42% of Danes wanted to continue being a monarchy 40% wanted a republic and 18% didn’t know. 46 years later 76,7% liked the monarchy 14,6% wanted a republic and the doubters where down to 8,7%. We love our Royal family and they are doing a great job at their job so why should we change that. That job is not a political one but a neutral common voice. She personifies the wholeness but with an elevated status that makes us listen to her. She is the eternal Denmark and has Denmark’s best in mind. And we are reminded every single year at the end of her New Years speech with her famous words “Gud bevare Danmark” (god preserve Denmark)
Also sorry for the long ramble that you probably don’t care about I just think it is fascinating and wanted to share my view as a Dane. But I tend to be carried away😅
The British Royals are not allowed to show their real selves , and only feel free when they are at Balmoral.Prince Harry told the truth about our Royals being card board puppets controlled by their advisors. All the European Royals are more popular because they are free to be themselves.
Ror example . When the heiress to the throne in the Netherlands left school , she flew her school bag on the flagpole of the Royal Palace in Amsterdam. ( It is a tradition for all those who have left school to do this on the balcony of their flat , or in their garden) The people in the Netherlands thought it was very appropriate for an 18 year old princess to do the same as her friends . Everyone thought it was very funny and a huge joke.

_Sounds_ like a bonus, but is probably more of a liability. Took him long enough to find a wife... Imagine having to try and figure out if someone really and truly loves you, or is a gold digger, or is mostly "in love" with some fairy tale idea.
Though I think getting married to a crown prince who is NOT of the British royal family (nor the Japanese imperial family, nor, recently, of the Spanish royal family) might be not quite so tough.

Maybe it was best Prince Frederik took his time finding the right partner, he wasn't young, he had time to have fun, and knew who he was seriously looking for, and he probably also listened to trusted family and friends. I also think Mary, was equally cautious knowing her life wouldn't be her own anymore. It takes two strong people to become part of a royal dynasty, to survive the scrutiny of media, carry on the family name and heritage, and give up who you are.

Mary has an unusual accent. She doesn’t sound Australian.. but she’s lived in many different places and has different accents around her. No OCKER around her thank goodness.
The first time that I heard Mary speaking Danish, I thought that she still sounded Australian, even though the words were Danish. The radio announcer thought so too. He said: "I don't know what Danish is supposed to sound like, but that sounds like an Oz accent to me".

Frederik is a rare example of a cool Royal - loves indie music.
It's really unfair the way people try to compare royal couples. Four totally different personalties, two totally different situations, and yet peop!e always want to set the other up as an example. Whatever they are like in private, as far as I can tell, both Kate and Mary have behaved themselves in public and appear to be good people raising nice children. What else do you people want from them?

Mary is half British and lived in Edinburgh for sometime. Her father is Scottish. Catherine Middleton's ancestry comes from the North East of England. It wouldn't be a stretch for them to be distant relatives.
