The Real Real sold me a fake Louis Vuitton bag. They recognized it was fake and let me return it, but then re-listed it and sold it to someone else. I had a great run with them but don’t shop there anymore.

My 2 cents: i used to be a huge enthusiast of buying 2nd hand. However, luxury resale prices have gotten so ridiculous that often they sell for more than what it costs new. Hence now i buy most of my designer items new. Not worth the hassle and worry

I purchase and sell items with the RealReal and so far (thankfully) have not been sold a fake. The reason I go back to them, even though I know this could happen, is that they have one of the largest variety of items of any resale site online. My philosophy is to always assume the worst when I get a designer item and check it multiple times to make sure it matches the authentic pieces. For most designer items looking at the Japanese sellers on eBay, who post amazingly detailed pictures is one of the best ways to visually confirm that an item looks right. This is not full proof, but it is a good first step. Getting a second opinion with a 3rd party authenticator is also recommended. I hope that this does not happen again, or discourage you from buying items on the secondary market.

Just tell them you got it second hand and question the authenticity. I'm glad you noticed that this was a fake!!! I bought a Loewe Puzzle Bag from a very reputable, trusted reseller website and also experienced the same thing -- didn't really inspect it closely and was so excited to use it right away. After a few days, I started noticing a lot of red flags about the bag (uneven stitching, hardware scratching already, glue residue, imperfections in the inner lining, extremely scratched leather despite babying it, etc) and suspected that it was a fake. Got it authenticated by a 3rd party, and it came back as counterfeit. I contacted the reseller and after submitting documents proving that it was counterfeit, I was able to send it back for a refund. However, a few days later, I was contacted by the reseller saying that they "still believed the bag was authentic" according to their standards, and was going to re-list it again and sell it on their website!! I was so horrified and shocked to hear this. I understand that they have their own authentication process but this left a bad taste in my mouth. There is no doubt in my mind, 100%, that the bag was fake, and even the best resellers and authenticators (in my opinion) can make mistakes. I ended up buying a new bag directly from a Loewe boutique at full retail price, and the quality is significantly better--weight of the hardware, feel and durability of the leather, etc. I've used it nonstop for 2 months for work, and there is not a single scratch on the leather or hardware of the authentic one. The counterfeit market is terrifying!!!

@@classicswithaquirk Yes!!! They said they stood by their authenticity guarantee! And now, the item has been sold to someone else. This also makes me worried that there are people out there who might know that high-quality replicas can easily slip through the cracks of authentication, and would sell replicas to those resellers in order to make a profit. Since authenticators are ultimately human, I also doubt that any one person (or even a team of people) can adequately authenticate ALL the products of these luxury brands, without firsthand owning one themselves. I imagine they sometimes have to authenticate items they have never seen in real life. Although authentication "science" is a great thing, I think with the scarily-realistic counterfeits out there, nothing can really substitute for the experience of owning and using an authentic item first, before being able to compare it to a potential fake. However, maybe it's just me and I'm just paranoid now! Haha xD

Hi, I really like your video. I am not an expert in YSL. Before I used to think that the brand things are indestructible. It is not so , I bought brand items from official store and I was shoked to see that some of the products disintegrate fast. Rulle 1 : The black color items hold on for loger time. Because they use the black dye that impregnates in the leather vs other colors that can wear faster then others. Many brands this days release colourfull leather items but many of them are very fragile and wear badly. I seen Italian artizan craftsmen that make way better quality items then soem high end brands, even leather is better quality, they not always have great design. I seen many people buying items that they do not like or need just because of the brand and price. You cna chek out what I bought, I posted some video about leather quality.

Accidentally bought a fake YSL bag via eBay earlier this year. Bad pictures make it very hard to know for sure - plus the emotional urgency when it is the only one and a perceived “deal.” So thankful that I was able to return it and get refunded without any issue. However, I was disappointed to see that the seller re-listed it a couple months later and it sold again, despite my reporting it several times to eBay. Similar to your cardholder, the hardware and stitching were both obvious after-the-fact as was that it was never used despite being a couple years old.

I agree this cardholder is a rep/fake. That’s really scary... I’m sorry this happened to you and I’m glad TRR at least stepped up & allowed you to return it.
Personally I’ve bought a LOT of items from TRR (clothes, shoes, jewelry, bags) and I myself haven’t ever encountered a fake (to my knowledge)... yet anyway. I have purchased some bags that were “final sale” that were not in the same condition described in the listing, and with picture proof I have been allowed a full refund for those situations. I’ve also had many purchases that went smoothly, with no issues at all. TRR has a very large inventory and a lot of new items coming in daily and I find it easy to believe that some inauthentic items just slip through the cracks. I don’t think they are doing it intentionally or maliciously, maybe they need to hire more qualified, knowledgeable people to authenticate and have the items undergo a longer period of time being evaluated and authenticated.

I think this YSL card holder is actually an outlet item. Made specifically for selling at the outlet stores. Quality of outlet items are notoriously poor and not the same as the boutique items. The tags being mismatched can simply be a mixup from the outlet store, or owner trying to pass off an outlet item as a store item. Also that color is not Peacock Green. The name is slipping my mind right now. But it is from 2017.

I stopped buying original bags and accessories because they are overpriced without actually having any quality. While I lived in China, I had a chance to test the fake and original, and the original was getting destroyed very quickly with little use. Even the hardware around bags started getting rusty. Whereas the fake bags and accessories lasted me for good 3-4 years of heavy usage (here I mean wearing them every day, one got soaked in the seawater twice when a wave hit it, hihihi, I spilled juice inside, my ink pen opened and big portion was covered in black, all washed away easily ans quickly). The original, on the other hand, was getting frayed edges after the first use, the color changed because of the jeans or any clothes I wore, if I put it on the table at my office, it would even get color off of that... So I decided to stop getting any brands and go for something either handmade or make my own.
