i know chaminade’s concertino is overplayed but i absolutely love it.
I think I’ve played (in the ensemble) it over half a dozen times and I’m only 18. It really is overplayed but fun.

OK, yes Chaminade is overplayed but like. That's more of a compliment than anything else. This is literally the ONLY piece by a female composer that I can think of that is this mainstream and the fact that it managed to become one of the biggest staples in flute repitoire is such a huge accomplishment. Plus it manages to be one of the best pieces I have ever heard, and the fact that a woman composed a piece so amazing inspires me so much as a young composer
you sound knowledgable about classical female composer. Any recommendation?I'm new to classical music and the dominance of male composers makes me question where are the female ones
@@pisicafairy4606 There are unfortunately not that many, historically. But the first person to look at is definitely Clara Schumann. Easily one of the best composers of the Romantic Period. Fanny Mendelssohn also composed hundreds of works, though at the time many were released under her brother's name.
Going older Isabella Leonarda was one of the most prolific Baroque Composers.
@@Pennwisedom But thankfully there are many more recent ones! For a start: Ruth Seeger, Caroline Shaw, Joan Tower, Kaija Saariaho, Sofia Gubaidulina, Galina Ustvolskaya, Pauline Oliveros, Julia Wolfe. If you look at the Bandcamp "best of contemporary classical" lists you'll see that many albums are by women composers: daily.bandcamp.com/best-contemporary-classical/best-of-bandcamp-contemporary-classical-april-2021.
Unfortunately, there are not many historical women composers in the repertoire because they were not encouraged to study music and - when they did - there was a lot of societal pressure for them to compose primarily in less ambitious genres. For example, Chaminade wrote a lot of piano salon pieces (which are not seen, traditionally at least, to be as valuable as other genres like the symphony).

There all overplayed because there great pieces, I once heard the acclaimed English flautist the late Gareth Morris playing the Chaminade on his wooden flute, he was fluent on both open and closed G sharp flutes which at the time amazed me. Thanks for sharing this Katie.

I don’t care what anyone says, the Chaminade is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. There is a reason it is overplayed! I really don’t think I could ever get tired of hearing it. And Katie’s playing of it is just superb.
it doesn’t matter if chaminade is an overplayed piece bc it’ll ALWAYS be my fav as a flute player 🫶 just sounds so majestic and beautiful!!

morning mood is one of my favorite to play bc it’s simple and i like scales plus i’m a beginner so it easy!
As beautiful as the first two are, the third is played with such emotion and frankly scratches every itch in my brain
That second piece made me want to cry.

What a flex on Chaminade ... there are way easier parts in that piece and yet when you play them it seems like the easiest part in the whole concertino.
