Hey, I've had a different experience regarding lectures. All of my classes last year had tests based mainly on what I learned in lecture rather than the textbook. Keep in mind that every teacher and class is different. I do think this video is very helpful!! Especially the tip about not buying textbooks early because I spent a lot of money doing that last year. Thanks Keegan for creating such enjoyable videos!
magicalbelievers yeah same. Even if they say you should read it sometimes I’ve gotten away with not because they cover everything we need to know in lectures and the textbooks are supplementary. Though I go to a smaller school and not a big state school where not every class is a huge lecture hall

love canvas so much more than blackboard!! if you use canvas i LOVE the calendar view because it has all the assignments and their due date time and the exams all on a monthly view (like a calendar) it’s amazing!!
p.s. i was .01 percent from an A (92.99) and my professor wouldn’t round me either 🙃

Agree on the calendar! I always put my classes in with the room/building so then the first few days you don’t have to go searching for it, you just swipe to your upcoming events on your iphone or just go to your calendar and all the information is there

omg no no! Go to lectures they are important and take notes and listen! Your professors you may have had may not have tested from lectures, but the reading, the lectures, homework, everything can have relevance for a test. Also there are professors that make their own tests and the higher you get in your degree the more you encounter this. Be careful of some of the advice you give. It's very based on your opinion and your kinda presenting it as the must know advise for college. I'd put it in as a disclaimer that this is based on your college experience bc if I was watching you as an incoming freshmen and followed this I woulda been caught unpleasantly off guard by the professors I had :
Honestly it's important to do both. Because she is right, most of the time they don't base the tests off the lectures and you could miss a LOT of stuff if you don't study the book when studying for a test. But a lot of the time lectures can help you understand the concepts in the book better. But I definitely believe that the book is more important than lectures
It's more common in general ed classes, but as you go higher in your major it's less and less common. And my professors when i was a freshmen took questions from their lectures. The lectures were basically a week long study guide. I have two 4 yr degrees and an associates and im about to go for a third, and I've had alot of professors do everything, but I would never advise anyone to skip out on lectures or think they aren't very important. But as she said there can be professors that go on more about their personal views, but that's why you read up on your professors before hand to avoid professors like that. Honestly, I wouldnt have even made this comment if she would have put a disclaimer that this was based on her personal college experience. She is presenting this video as the go to facts and it's not, as it's based her personal experience.
So interesting watching this to see how things work in the US! I am nearly finished my first year of university, and it is so different for me. All our classes are weighted, and every paper is different in terms of workload - some of my papers don't have an exam at all at the end and some have 70% exams! Loved learning a bit about your system though!

Oh something that I have learned. If an instructor gives out study guides actually fill that out. A lot of the study guide will be on the test.
Honestly can you make other videos that are not college related because some of us aren't going into college. But i still love watching them.

Also you should mention that in college they almost NEVER give extra credit work so take your tests very seriously.
