    Loving my 1990 triple locked HDJ81. 😁 agreeed on the baseline, you don’t want to be “that guy” that gets stuck somewhere. Learn the truck, wrench the truck yourself.

    I picked up a 97 lx450 in mint condition, no rust, interior was mint also, paint was great, completely stock for a thousand bucks from a pick and pull yard, nothing was gone off of it except someone got the stereo. Had to get a key made for it and the yard got me a title. Started it right up and been driving ever since, threw a 3" lift, 35's, different rims, cat delete, front bumper, diff and rear locker so far and raptor lined it, love it. So much room.

    I just bought a 1993 LC about a month ago, and I agree with what's said here. The most important item to most owners is a rust-free frame. Solid engine and trans is next. All the rest is fixable, I think. I paid ~$7k for a triple locked, nearly completely stock vehicle, which I think was a bargain. It has lousy paint, bad interior, some body issues, but I think it was a pretty good deal. Perhaps the more I think about the issues, the less of a good deal it was. heh.
    I am going to decide whether to resell it in the spring and possibly ask a few thousand more, or jump in and go about building it up with fancy bumpers, lift, and all the rest, and possibly try to sell it for $15k+. The market does seem to be crazy for these things.
    The only reason I think I was able to buy this one is that it was a 5 hr drive away from Minneapolis in the middle of nowhere in the very cold wintertime. Time will tell whether it was a good idea or not, but it might be a fun diversion regardless.
    Good informative video, I will reiterate.

    I bought a 93 , triple locked LC in 2021 for $4000. It had 330k on it, was previously owned by a mechanic who did a lot of the base line tune up. I put 33s on the stock suspension , painted it white, added new throttle cable and had front end alignment to get it past MD inspection. The AC stopped working this summer. The fan works but no cold air. It runs great with 342k miles on it now. I'm thinking of selling and asking 10k. The lockers work but I've only used the truck to drive on beach for surf fishing. The frame is in good shape no major rust issues. is 10k too much considering the mileage?

    Agree on most things said, except maybe the full coverage insurance, man you MAY get a big paycheck but you will have to fight your insurance company for it, otherwise they want to give the bluebook value of like 4-5000$ on the HIGH side. it's ridiculous.

      @@NuttyNu People argue multiple ways on this. POR-15 and FF do different things. Some people say use POR-15 to chemically change the rust, let it dry, then goop everything up with FF after that. I will prob do both.

      @@NuttyNu in my local adds, almost every single 80 series with the 4.5 had a head gasket job done. Some people even recommend it to be done every 100k miles. It has a fairly similar design as the 7m engines.

      @danielmahler5031 Před 6 měsíci +1

      They say to change the head gasket around 200k miles. That’s usually when they start going bad. So if you get 200k and have to Change a head gasket that really not crazy at all.
