    THANK YOU for talking about keeping the guard on an angle grinder. I get really frustrated with fabrication channels on CZcams that present themselves as how-to guides for hobbyists, then show the alleged expert using an abrasive cutoff wheel on an angle grinder with the guard removed. As you mentioned, when one of those things flies apart, it sends shards out at unbelievable speed.

    Bob, Thank you!! You remind me of my high school auto mechanics instructor. He was a great instructor and took the time to explain and show you how to do things. Just learning how to weld at 62 and sincerely appreciate the videos. Again, thank you!

    Excellent vid Bob, thank you.... Cut off wheels are the WORST. Also, snagging a sanding disc, chipping it, and then the vibration....! Cheers....!

    One of the most important topics to be covered on welding. I see a lot of unsafe practices being done by CZcams makers and it's kinda scary the amount of influence they have. I would love to see more on safety and metal prep if you guys would be willing.

    Face mask or some type of filter for particulate. Welders don't need any more help getting lung cancer, emphysema, etc from the welding fumes and other dust. Grinding dust is straight up bad for you.
    Great video Bob!!! Not one I expected to come but you gotta be well rounded and know how to do it all. Thanks!!

    The guard I use for my cut off wheels (1mm thick) is deeper and would take that flap disc no problem. If you check out the grinder manufacturer's spares lists they normal show the type 1 guard (like your grinders all have) and the type 47 guard which is designed to give the higher level of protection that thin cut off wheels need.

    Yup. Mine have guards on them also. After one kicked back and sliced a knuckle on my thumb a good 1/8" into the bone, guards went beck on. I just learned to live with them now and havnen't found them to be an issue anymore.

  • @prviproleter
    @prviproleter Před 3 lety

    I prefer to use a grinder with a potentiometer (adjustable RPM) because I found that I don't really need the max RPM all the time. It does wonders when you use the flap discs. Also, I use the 2.5 mm cutting disc to do prepping. If you don't press on it like an animal then there's no need to worry. Does a heck of a job.
    And of course: always use guards, ear plugs and at least safety glasses.

      Leonard Gilbreath I do wear ear protection quite often.

    • @kristianskov4841
      @kristianskov4841 Před 6 lety +1

      On earprotection...... If things continues the way the are going, then we (the welder/fabricators) soon won´t be needing them no more.
      I´ve been grinding/welding for almost 20 years, an in that time I´ve seen huge improvements in noise reduction on grinders.
      The ones I´ve got today are way more silent then the first ones I had.
      .........................On the other hand, every thing else has gotten more quiet as well.......(wonder why??)

    WEAR YOUR PPE when grinding at the very least hands and face/eyes. When it comes to thin sanding pads with plastic or rubber backings always try to use rubber backings. A: they last forever. B: if you catch an edge or corner then dont shatter and leave a SHARP half a plastic backing pad spining around. True story, this happend to my coworker who had been around the trade for a long time, the grinder bucked right under the face shield and the plastic pad hit his lip and cut him open like the damn joker. The next week the company switched over to rubber backing pads that we had been asking for for at least a year.

      Sad part of every company. They dont provide the essentials until someone gets hurt. Where my dad works somebody got her arm ripped off her body by a 3hp drill they were using to drill a 20mm hole into sheet metal without a guard or and kind of an easy access to the stop switch. They still didnt sort it out and there is still blood on the machine but the workers have to keep on working on there. Even with it being dirty.
