Hi Marcos, bolt-ons and neck throughs offer different tonal characteristics. One is not necessarily "better" than the other, it all comes down to personal preference. Generally, neck through construction lends itself well to a warm tone with great sustain and bolt-ons offer more punch, focus, and versatility. Many other factors come into play when trying to bridge the gap between the two...quality of construction, wood selection, finishing material etc. Hope this helps.
You build great instruments George, could you explain the midi system in detail? there so little information around.. it would be great to know what Alain is using instead of the Roland GK-3B ;)
Thanks Pablo! On his AC6, Alain is using the RMC Poly Drive-1, with RMC piezo saddles, while the magnetic is running passively through the same RMC system On his fretted, he's using the Roland BG3 internal mount system with passive magnetics blended into the system.
Amazing instrument and player. But I agree with Giuseppe.. distorted sound even on 720p, when showcasing an instrument of this caliber it is really a let down. Good thing we have multiple albums from Alain to hear the amazing sound of this bass.
I own a Leduc U-bass fretless, initially conceived for Alain... I'd barter my fingers for Alain's, NOT my U-bass for the AC-6, sorry F-bass... An artisan like Leduc couldn't ^pay musicians to use his instruments, but the U-bass rules the fretless basses, like it or not.
Our preamps in all of our models run off of a single 9V battery. While our preamps have a low draw, it's always best to unplug your instrument when not in use to preserve battery life.
I have owned F Bass BN5, VF5 and finally got the AC5. Such a beautiful instrument so happy with it.

It works quite well on the lower strings. But skip the C-string on a fretless please. it is horrific.
The ampeg electric sounds much more acustic than the Fbass!
