I remembered seeing the movie release and did not think the series was going to do it justice. I was pleasantly surprised. The Klugman and Randall combination knocked it out of the park.
Why would you want there to be? They had something unique, and that’s what made it so special and memorable. There’s enough copycats out there as it is. It takes skill and talent to be creative enough to create something original. Let the odd couple be it’s own thing. It’s such a childish and bleak existence you trap yourself into when you convince yourself that nothing good exists anymore, because everything that brought you joy is all in the past now. It’s so pathetic; and spineless. It’s also lazy,
What a great roast this was, for two very funny, enjoyable down to earth guys. Both were great actors on their own, but when they teamed up to do the Odd Couple TV series, a great show was born, that still lives on in re-runs. Thanks for posting this, this is a gem.
Same here, but the single greatest moment during all the Deano roasts IMO was when Foster Brooks was roasting Sammy Davis Jr., and before he started, he looked over at Dean and said, "Last time you and I were *urp* side-by-side, someone s-s-stepped on my tonguueee...". Never saw my dad bust up so hard in his entire life.
I used to love watching these roasts in my teens. I feel sad that so many of these people have passed - mostly because it means my day is getting much closer.
There really isn’t much else to see. Most of what we’d find satisfying, can be found at any day and age of human history. Those things being love and friendships. A glimpse into the cosmos, and a future with flying cars would be nice, but I do not believe it would match the romanticized portrayal of them, crafted by Hollywood. 100 billion gone, 8 billion strong, let’s make one life feel like a hundred.
I know exactly how you feel. I will be 63 this year. However, let me pass along to you a piece of advice that my oldest brother told me several years ago: You're as young as the women you feel.
I like this show even in reruns it is FUNNY.I never can get enough of this show. Too bad there will never be another show like this again. It is a "classic" tv show. May you both rest in peace !!!
The mistake Neil Simon made when he did "The Odd Couple Too" in 1997 was going back to Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, who played Felix and Oscar in the original 1968 film (and even if both were at the peak of their careers by then). Tony Randall and Jack Klugman are so synonymous with those characters that I think that would have done better if they had played them in the big-screen sequel.
I loved the Odd Couple then, and love them now. I ordered the DVD series of the show and I gotta yell ya, when I'm not feeling good about something, I watch Oscar and Felix and it just cheers me up! Thanks for the memories.
On the show some of the most talented and brilliant actors of all time, they are irreplaceable , today no one comes close to their unique characters still watching today mannix, odd couple etc
Wow the hits just keep on coming in this one!! LAUGH OUT LOUD, so fantastic! Love these guys, loved their show, and absolutely loved this incredibly hilarious roast!!
Hilarious!! Ruth Buzzi is (literally) a SCREAM! Nice to watch folks you don't normally see on these roasts...Gary Burghoff, Loretta Lynn, Soupy Sales etc.
19:55 My half-brother bought half of Randall's apartment in the San Remo (yes he lived there, Klugman at 1049 Park), and I saw Klugman in the 69th OTB in 1986 on his way back from a cancer treatment.
Trivia item: The great comic Leonard Barr, who appears in this roast, was Dean Martin's uncle (as Jack Carter later mentioned). Leonard was the brother of Dean Martin's mom, Angela.
I thought so, too. He was RELENTLESS, took no prisoners! I must have laughed a good solid ten minutes --- I couldn't breathe! I watched it again and again and I lost it every time! He was brief, his delivery was impeccable and he left the audience wanting more. That's how it's done!
Years before Riggs and Murtagh (Mel Gibson and Danny Glover) there was Felix Unger (Tony Randall) and Oscar Madison (Jack Klugman). The REAL Odd Couple. Years before Lethal Weapon.
Thank you x1000!!! I’m absolutely 💯 LOVING this! I wish people were this kind in the modern day roasts… it’s so witty and funny, not to mention the amazing talents here! Classic!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I didn't even know this one existed. Sort of had the flair of a "B" movie when compared to the blockbusters like Stewart, Rickles, Ball and Davis Jr. not to mention the roast of Dean's himself. Obviously they can't all be fabulous and the jokes were quite good. Superior material in 2021where all humor has been banned in Boston!
I see Jackie Vernon(Frosty The Snowman) and country singer Doug Kershaw sitting at the dais but I guess their insult routines were edited out of the show. Thanks for posting, great video!
Wow, just going thru the nearly endless episodes of Dean Martins comedy hour,, i didnt know gary burgoff was amongst the stars, really glad to see him...And Loretta Lynn, WOW... tyler swif...lol
The Odd Couple was a successful play. Then it became a successful movie. After that, it became a very successful tv series. Now here is a very unusual fact that many people may not know. Each year the ratings greatly increased until the show ended in 1975.
What did Dean say at the very end? Was it "I'm on my way home Catherine, warm up the hot chocolate?" Sounded like it. She was the woman he left Jeanne for til he realized she was just a golddigger and started seeing Jeanne again. He did however adopt her small daughter while he was married to her for 3 years. He was such a great guy.

Yes, it has been edited I said so in the description. I purchased the DVD for it, and as far as I know this is the only copy available of this roast (Unless someone has recording from when it was aired on TV)

An angry guy, but I enjoyed him later in life on podcasts where he really let out all his bitterness and vitriol onto the world. I missed Jackie vernon on here as he was always good. The chemistry between those two was priceless.
Jack Klugman & Tony Randall were a winning combination!
