I am building a full-time, live-aboard, off-grid, all-aluminum, 16'ft cab-over, rear roll-up door with Tommy Lift RV from a 2020 Hurricane Karen (SW La.) damaged '99' class-C motor home (16'ft) on a Ford E-350 V-10 base.
I am researching slide-outs.
I have yet to come across any on what is essentialy will be a box truck. Planning on two opposing (couch & desk).
I am considering hydraulics\pneumatics over electric motor rack\pinion type given the rig already has compressed air and Tommy Liftgate hydraulics.
I will be using many aluminum brackets if I use alum, welding a minimum.
May just go with steel.
Both slide-outs: ~7'ft L.
The slideout mechanism likely needs to be inside the box not underneath as everybody else does, we'll see. Given I am only 5'6" I have room to work in the 8'ft tall box. If I end up with min. 6'6" floor-ceiling I am satisfied.
Do you have a fail safe if the electric one goes out? A hang cranks maybe ? This video was super helpful
I’m also building a rig from scratch and been wondering how to make a pop out.
The rod that rotates as the motor spins can be turned by hand if necessary. Not pretty by any means, but can be done.
Hm. you can make it electric but what if you are trying to reduce electric use in your camper?
Could you do it manually?
Then again; I'm the type of person who wouldn't mind pulling out a slide out manually.

I’d favour a hand cranked system as there’s one less electrical thing to go wrong, but if it was electric it wouldn’t take much power, the motor is only working for 10 seconds.

Diesel tech aluminum composite panels. Basically a piece of plastic / polycarbonate in the middle sandwich by two pieces of aluminum
I got it M1078 military Truck I would like to convert it into a camper just like you did but I don’t know where to get those panels

That’s an awesome build. So the whole exo skeleton is steel apart from the slide out? What height is the box going to be on the inside?
The inside height is about 8 and 1/2 or 9 feet

I purchased the mechanisms from LIppert directly. No instructions. They typically only sell these to OEM manufacturers.

@Joeys48 I ended up calling them and got lucky and talk to a guy that was willing to sell it to me. Have you tried calling them yet?

That by far was one of the most challenging parts of the build. Especially since I had no instructions.

@@danmefford3966 Thanks. It is a 3x3 Pivot Rail (for the weight and dimensions I have). I ordered it through Lippert Components (LCI). They did not give me either direction or instructions. I had to figure out how to install them and make them work. I honestly do not remember how much they were. Maybe $800 a pair (came with motor and controls) Don't quote me on that.
May I ask where you got your slide out mechanism from?
Lippert industries. No instructions as they are meant to be installed by an OEM

@@naturopath72 Original Equipment Manufacturer. I ended up talking to a guy at Lippert after many , many emails. After a lengthy conversation he agreed to send me the slide out mechanisms with the caveat that I would get no instructions or assistance since the RV manufacturers that install the slide outs go through rigorous training.

What Gauge your 1x3?
All of the aluminum I used on the rig is 1/8 in. And they are actually inch and 1/2 by 3
Why is it so short?
So the fixed walls could be as tall as possible. Over 8 feet tall inside when opened up
@@expeditionvehicleadventure2141 maybe im missing something, couldnt the popouts be nearly as tall? Or am i seeing the popouts come up to your shoulders in height?,
So, the pop-out are about 5 feet tall. The side walls are just over five feet tall. The reason they are all that hype it's so when the roof is down the rig is just over ten feet tall going down the road
