      I miss making videos for everyone who appreciates the teachings. Unfortunately I retired from teaching. But have a lot of videos that have never been posted. Maybe one day soon I’ll upload some of those.

    I trained under his instruction for about six years, I was able to do it, but struggled with it for some time, while I was with him before opening my own school, he was really concentrating on our nodotsukiage and kaiten waza, he didn't cover Koshi Nage as much but was really stressing diachi, variables of Nikyo, sankyo, and Ikkyo from armed bottle attacks, irimi Nage combinations from Mae giri kao Tsuki attacks , I completely identify with your interpretation of Tenshin Randori, I also came from 13 years of a military Aikido jujitsu method of Aikido from Shihan Thomas Makiyama, but their Randori was merely Tenshin Tai Sebaki with Nage waza

      You opened your own aikido dojo, is your dojo affiliated with Reynosa sensei organization? and where is your school located?

  • @travisjohnson7047
    @travisjohnson7047 Před 7 lety

    No not affiliated with Makoto Aikido Kyokai, I have a faith based Ministry, and me and Shihan Sensei parted ways in 2006, my school is the Masakatsu Dojo, school of Aikido, Masakatsudojo.org, I operate it with Biblical principles with practical applications, I felt Tenshin engages authenticity nobody else does in the Aikido Community. Besides your applications, I am also adapting Matsuoka Sensei and Jaime Calderon's applications, love all you guys!

    I loved learning te katana waza, never had that until my time with Reynosa Shihan, for my students, I narrowed them down to three, I call tenkan, uke negashi and irimi

    Great Instruction and getting a lot from it! I am paying it forward to my own students, being trained by Reynosa Shihan, I am familiar with most of these Waza, but I am still owning my own adaptions, would love to see your work with Koshi Nagi from Morote dori and yokomen uchi when you can, thanks and God bless

      Hi Travis!!! DO you still train with Reynosa sensei or how long did you train with him? As for Koshinage.... I will be doing a video soon on that. I'll keep in mind morote dori and yokomenuchi. Morote dori Koshinage is one of Reynosa sensei's favorite.

    Len Sensei, on which sword style is yours based on? It's not Aiki-ken, Iwama, iaido, or kenjutsu. First time I've seen the sword placed at rest at kamae position on the upper arm! I don't think Steven Segal does this. Please clarify. Am aikikai & jka too. Ossu.Thanks.

    You're back! I wondered what happened to you Sensei. Question: Other Aikido schools, ASU and Iwama for example, try to avoid injuries by adjusting the distance during kumitachi. They move back a bit so that if the ken makes it through it swings clear, then say "Whoops" or "I'm dead!". Does Tenshin Aikido reject that practice?

    • @SLYSCOMBATIVECONCEPTS13

      obviously we need to avoid injuries as much as we can. although we understand it honesty is a very important part of the training. so accidents in training do happen and if someone gets hurt it's because we train as real as we can. we do not play train and pretend in kumi tachi.

      THE ROGUE WARRIORS - Where Warriors are FORGED Interesting... I'll be adjusting the distance with my 7-year-old daughter this summer when I teach her Saotome's first and second, though! Great stuff, Sensei. Kevin Choate Shihan (R.I.P.) would be doing it differently of course, but he'd still be proud of your teachings!

      WOW!!! Thank you for your kind words about Kevin Choate sensei. I hope he'd be proud. Although Choate sensei and I had a difference in opinion about the path of aikido. I believe he was more about the peace side to the teachings and that really fit his personality. To where in the beginning of my training I was more about seagals methodology on practicality of the effectiveness of the martial art. Choate sensei knew I was a bouncer and knew I would use the skills he taught me within my part time job without hesitation. I'm not sure if he was happy with that or not considering he would never hurt a soul. Though he must have thought I was good at that job because I'd never show up to the dojo looking like I was in a fight. So his teachings obviously taught me how to find peace within myself because I was never ashamed at what I've done to other people working at bars. Don't get me wrong.... I wasn't always happy performing the tasks that go with that job. unfortunately it's a thankless and an unrewarding job that I happened to be good at. Ultimately I think Choate sensei was just happy that I was skilled enough not to get hurt. I really can only think of maybe 2 times that he ever asked me about my bouncing job and I believe both times were within the first year I did that job. After that we never talked about it again. I am forever grateful for the teachings he gave me and I still talk about and share those teachings today with my students.

      You're welcome, Sensei. Great story! I trained with Kevin for a year back in 2005 when I lived in Oak Park going to grad school in the city, then I would take the train down from Waukegan about six times a year for a couple of years. I started in DC and Northern Virginia.
      Anyway, I think Kevin would be proud of you because he believed in innovation and creativity. He also always emphasized that Aikido doesn't work if there isn't the possibility of being lethal. One time, he caught me not stepping off the line (again) and he smashed me on the nose and said "this stuff is supposed to be real! Do I need to get my sword?" Then he laughed that high pitched chuckle of his.
      I like to say attacking Kevin was like trying to hug the wind. Miss that guy.... :)
