I think some protesters went too far and made them look bad. Also, there were no clear goals or the goal post kept shifting. Had the protesters declared victory after the extradition bill was cancelled, China might not have the opportunity to apply the national security law for maybe another decade. Having said that, it was only a matter of time before China makes the move...
