Brand spanking new to the channel got the original AOE with my Gateway computer and it was the only included game I really got into sadly I fell off but do to finding this channel I just purchased AOE2 DE today and can't wait to grind this weekend keep up the great content the FFA Diplo games are amazing.

I'm also new! I haven't played yet but I just got the game yesterday, I'm excited to play this game looks like so much fun.
@@yeti1682 Almost all civs share the baseline technologies/units, so there is very little difference in which civ you are playing when you're just starting out and learning.
Once you get a little bit better the differences and civ bonuses become more impactful. I noticed I began optimizing for civ-specific build orders at around 1300 Elo. It took me ~400 hours to get to that level from scratch.
Some notable exceptions:
Chinese (the start is difficult and requires a non-standard build order).
Mesocivs (they lack stables and instead get the Eagle units that don't quite play the same way).
And there are of course civs where you don't have to be very good at the game to notice some benefits/drawbacks. Turks, for example, have terrible non-gold units and as gold runs out reasonably often in low-level games you might notice it. Similarly, since low-level players tend to be less aggressive, you're likely to feel the Goth infantry bonuses.
And you'll probably also do better with civs that have front-loaded economy bonuses, such as Lithuanians (extra food means the Dark Age becomes more forgiving).
Typically, I'd recommend for new players to learn a Fast Castle build order to get a feel for the economy side of the game. Then I'd learn a scouts into knights build order and play with that. Archers are very strong and MAA into archers is probably the strongest opening at lower levels, but it's very difficult to pull off if managing the economy isn't second nature yet. Archers in general are more difficult to play with than cavalry.
Just my two cents.
Viper rule #26- Don't be greedy and push deer in lieu of scouting, it will hurt you later. T90? Listen to the Viper!

This reminds me of an Age of Mythology map. I forget which one, but I remember you start with a Plenty Vault that produces resources, but will swap over to another players team if they're the only units around it, like a sheep. So you sort of accidentally reinvented that scenario, lol

WRT the point about positionings, sometimes people get unlucky with positions. I remember this one grandma that got unlucky with her position, and found herself sniped by T90s freekicks

My fave Megarandom generation is the feitoria start, my usual policy is to find theirs and spam infantry at it when I find it but I never thought about converting theirs! That's brilliant!

I once converted 3 enemy fetorias and but towards the very end of the game. My pop was 255/200 when the game ended.

@@ayush885 you can win without producing units. If you have 400 population in fietoria with 25 villagers you can easily spam buildings while supplying your teammates with huge amounts of resources.

Honestly, I've seen this before. Valas did the same thing to Dragonstar in Master of Hyperrandom where they both started with Feitorias in one game.

So just a quick question as I haven't played this game in almost 20 years now and just started few days ago, but I really don't have time to play so I will basically play maybe 5-6 games per week and the only way I learn how to play well is by watching LEL and my goal is to be in LEL one day (I know that with the time I have to play and with how I do in RTS games my ELO will be in that). Do you think that is a worthy goal?
