Thomas I cant access the link. I dont know whats the problem.
Hey Thomas, thanks a lot for having us in your video. Was a pleasure talking to you! :)
My wife loves tiny homes and van life. When I showed her she got so excited. You guys got two guaranteed purchases from us!
Beautiful game! I hope it is a massive success. GG
Good luck guys! This game looks like a ton of work, but you've got something worth pursuing. I'll be there checking it out when it's ready.
The game caught my attention the second I saw it. That doesn’t happen often.
Love the game, it looks fantastic, very warm and inviting :) What about having "seasons" where some materials are not available in one area but are in another further away as a way to incentivize players to move around the map with the van?
They should put a Mountain bike on the back of the Van! You know it would fit.
Outbound is super gorgeous and getting posted by IGN was just a Cherry on top! All the 100k+ wishlists are VERY MUCH DESERVED!
Literally KILLED IT! This is almost exactly the same game I have working on for the past year, even down to the interior customisation! And now there's literally no point in continuing!
It is a great kind of game, make yours unique and steal their audience!
@@Noyssu yeah good point. Actually, yeah I can take a different approach, but just couldn't believe how close my game is to theirs.
I think you can still get good things from that, If you really think your game is very similar to theirs, then you can more easily add something that isn't. and it could be something great that have not yet crossed your mind. so keep on going.
Star Dew Valley was a clone of Harvest Moon. By the time your is out I'm sure people will be done with this and look for the next van life game.
Alternatively try a different vehicle for the escapism with the same customization. Such as a boat that can travel between islands. Then add fishing and scuba.
I can’t quite explain the feeling but I hate to admit that every time I see an amazing game idea (more specifically trinity hook ;P) that’s so good like in Outbound, I’m simultaneously filled will joy and excitement for the game and also a pang or sad like “dang I wish I would’ve thought of that!” It’s truly bittersweet but the “sweet” (happy) definitely outweighs the “bitter” (sad) especially with devs as awesome as you all!! Way to go and good luck ya’ll!
That said, seeing that the idea was arrived at through market research and identifying a niche that's popular but also something that they're interested in was really insightful, and also makes it feel like a "good idea" is also more attainable with the right strategy. A lot of the time game devs will either blindly hop on trends or blindly make something that they're passionate about but not consider both. Definitely keeping this in mind
You have to realize that even if you came up with the same idea, your execution of it would have led to a different result, regardless of time and experience.
You guys are definitely right! I appreciate that, I should say I realized my initial comment came off sounding more selfish than I meant too haha but it’s more figuring out that perfect idea (and you’re right about researching what gamers are looking for and fitting it into your vision too) I should say I’m more inspired than anything else when I see amazing devs like this talk about their game, to find that “diamond in the rough” game idea to polish into something great! Also I’m more excited when game studios like this are executing such ideas (mine would probably be done in RPGMaker fml but actually now that I think about it a cross country RV Camper RPG ala Earthbound style is kinda an awesome idea- maybe the camper could be a mech LOL I might actually have to run with that one ;P WHOOT! Thanks guys!!)
@@SuPeRNinJaRed I would so play a camper van mech survival game
That's a natural thought my friends, we evolved from apes afterall.
Why is always just few comments? This men are putting a lot of effort and let me say courage showing off not just showing off their workflow goals, but also their personal opinion out loud as professionals in the field
Give this channel a chance, interact and share with gamers and game developers communities, we should endorse this kind of information and content
This one has been on my wishlist since the trailer dropped. Cool interview!
I love these conversations because they can apply to literally any art form you might be interested in.
Hey Thomas, just some honest feedback, this video didn’t really hit the mark for me. I think you talk too much vs your guests, and directed the point of the video more towards marketing your game project and your courses. It’s perfectly fine but it felt more like a commercial for their game and then a commercial for yours. Just my 2 cents as a long term viewer and wannabe gamedev.
Agreed. I feel this is present across most of the channel interviews. Step back and let the guest speak. Its a little cringy at times. Still great content though! :)
Their game looks so great, fine work guys!
It always comes down to dedication and starting out with small prototypes and games before you do anything potentially big.
My problem is not having any prductivity despite plenty ideas.
Such a wonderful game idea! Excited to play it :D
Kudos to the developers, who have done a great job! Best wishes from the Solarpunk team.
Thanks guys 👋
Literally making society escapeism game for an escapeism media, as a Hook. Obvious success for a strong concept!
Very interesting interview, thanks!
Where can I get royalty free assets for my game?
Assets such as SFX,3d models and voices.
That was awesome!!! That motivated me even more!😅
Just launched my first Steam shop page. Really fun accomplishment to do.
One huge question I have with the Steam market research is how well that transfers to other platforms. Being able to sell on many platforms is important for both profitability and the enjoyment from seeing more people like console gamers playing too. I’d be curious if there is a big difference in the hook needed for different platforms.
I seen outbound and instantly wanted it.
9:42 "You get nothing" lol xD
I beg your pardon, but I make a mean black bean burger & sauteed veggie sandwich with avocado and spicy cheesy cashew sauce. My non-vegan friends who try it say it's one of the best sandwiches they've had in a long time! =)
Great games always start with an idea. It's the ability to create the idea into a fun playable game and actually release it, that's the challenge. That requires staying motivated throughout the development. Then the success depends not only on a good game and a developer's ability to finish it but also the ability to market it. Then last, the budget and time to do all of it which can be an entire obstacle in itself. Congrats to those developers of Outbound, looks like they managed to do all this and some.
Did u do podcast of them??
I love how these successful developers are using wired earbuds
The secret to success
Terrific episode. Truly insightful and inspiring.
Next episode idea: your thoughts on asset flippers on Steam (Digital Homicide, Silicon Echo, Matt Norman). Perhaps you could give these scammers some advice on how to be more original and not to simply drag and drop stuff from the asset marketplace.
What engine does Outbound using?
That very loud clicking, holy shit dood.
how to make a grind... got it. Thanx
good video 😃
Hot air video☠️
i'm gonna say a lot of ppl venture too far into their first game... make your first games short , chaotic and memorable.. i've been studying the indy games sales for the last 3 yrs on steam.. so many good games get un noticed .. strange games do well.. i see alot of indy devs put their heart and souls into making games that take years to make only to get a couple hundred copies in sales... you need your game to get noticed.. it's not easy , there are some genres tho that just do well... i'm gonna say puzzle platformers and metroidvanias are a risky genre.. i love them, it's my favorite genre but yea, risky unless you make a short game that doesn't take you years.. one big downside in see in 2d games is poor level design.. too many square right angles. not enough dynamic crazy tiling.. Celeste and Rainworld are good references for dynamic tiling... it's like that saying "you eat with your eyes" like in fine dining.. if your meal looks really good you really want it.. same goes for level design... if your tiling looks nice and dynamic my eyes will like it... if it's all square and big long straigh lines. i hate it.. I thnk a lot of new game devs miss this part about level design
Thank you! That I eat with my eyes was really helpful
It's Creator's work.
The more you know, the better you are at game design.
e.g. INFINITE EARTH not a spinning object/ball, and same OUTBOUND with flying vehicles, etc.

I think not every "hook" works on all people, everything with first person view and building/crafting can't hook me. I see them but they don't inspires me.
I always wonder ... where are the western games that copies asian games ...
Where are the western Bayonetta, Nier Automata or Stellar Blade clones ?
Where are the western Gatcha games ?
Where are the western MMOs in that the characters looks similar like the from Black Desert ?
Right on!
First
I wishlisted their game looks and sounds amazing
Great video, super helpful
