  • So you want to get a springer spaniel but you don't know which one to choose? OR, you didn't know there WAS a choice. Well this video is for you! In this video we talk about the similarities and the differences between English Springer Spaniels and Welsh Springer Spaniels.
    Our Recommendations on essential things for your new puppy:
    Brush - amzn.to/2XOGAm5
    Kong Toy - amzn.to/3bPx4HI
    Crate - amzn.to/38P8oNr
    Dog Bed - amzn.to/3imHxeG
    Grooming Clippers - amzn.to/3bNU6yH
    *We have a couple of inaccuracies that were pointed out to us and we feel it's important to address them. (We're learning too!) As per the AKC breed standard, the nose can be black or any shade of brown in color. The weights are off. Males are 40-45 lbs. Females are 35-40.

    I think I have rewatched this clip over 100 times😊 I recently separated from my fiancé and her sister had a Welch named Greta and we more or less became like close relatives to her. There are so many scenes in this clip that reminds me of her: always playing around the house, spontaneously hiding behind the couch (why always the couch??), and all the love that they give you who are close. Especially the last thing struck me. I grew up with different breeds of terriers when I was a child and they were all great dogs. But with the Welch, I don’t think I have felt so close to a dog on a personal level. The way they look at you and want to be around you, whether you play with them or you work at the computer and they lie beside you and observe you. Such nice dogs❤

    Your dogs are so beautiful! I had heard that the Welshies were more reserved then the English, it was interesting to have you speak about it. We have an English Springer puppy right now, her name is Ruby, she is 10 months old. She is a liver, tri, roan. I got her from a breeder closer to my home. Her sire is from your kennel. So, the Welsh are still very loving, happy and friendly, not mobbing visitors that come in, but taking a little time to become comfortable. They sound absolutely delightful. You all have such a great way with your dogs. At some point in the future I would like to bring one home, but right now I am at the limit for dogs in our municipality. Thank you for making all these great videos, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching each one.

    Thanks for both of the English vs Welsh Springer Spaniel comparison videos, and the male vs female video. It would be great to also see it from the opposite perspective with a video on the ideal English Springer Spaniel owner vs the ideal Welsh Springer Spaniel owner to help decide which I as a prospective owner I most resemble, to help me and other prospective owners identify which Springer Spaniel we would be most suited for. Even better if as an extra twist, the English/Welsh/male/female consideration was also thrown into the mix. That’s if the ideal owner for each variant can be identified.

    lovely dogs. Our Welshie is 12 years old. btw Welshies were also used for herding animals. Smallholders couldn't afford two specialist dogs so they had one that could hunt and herd - it definitely explains some of their behaviour (e.g. barking a lot)

    Great looking dogs. So cute and didn't know they were smaller than ESS.
    We have two English Springers! Jeff, our (nearly) adult boy can be a bit overwhelming to people who don't want attention. He is very persistent if you do not acknowledge him. He also gets over excited when greeted and sometimes happy pees... His goal when playing with other dogs is to annoy as much as possible so they will chase him. Jeff is about 45lbs.
    Our new little pup, Jerry, seems much different though. Very calm and snuggly. Jeff had an overwhelming energetic personality from the start, but I suppose Jerry could still develop one later on! Jerry came from the biggest parents at the breeder, so he will likely be 55-60lbs.
    I have a bunch of videos of Jeff on my channel, but not enough of Jerry! He's 4 months today. Cheers!

    Lovely dogs, I had a Welsh SS 40 years ago when I still lived in Wales. One thing I've noticed whenever I see a video of an English SS in the US is that they all seem to have the markings that your Remy has (in another video with all the dogs) ie a continuous dark coat from just behind the shoulders right back to the tail, something most unusual in British SS. Have US breeders introduced this deliberately? That said, your other English SS seemed more like the British version. Looks like you breed the working variety right? I don't like the look of the show version.

    • @OSheaSpringers
      @OSheaSpringers  Před 3 lety

      That's great! A TRUE Welsh Springer Spaniel you had then. Yes I would agree that there is a lot more white markings in British spaniels than in North America. Our lines are from Czech and Poland. The Roaning comes from European bloodlines. From what I have read they don't really differentiate between field lines and bench/show. It's a mixture. So that said, our lines are a mix. Not straight show and definitely not straight field.

    Beautiful dogs! I'm finally researching breeds after losing my beloved Parson Russell Terrier almost 2 years ago, it's taken me this long. I was actually at a dog show today-I'm in Ohio, and I've met wonderful breeders of both the Welsh and English Springer Spaniel. It's just me at home, I have a medium sized yard and love to walk. Some people have told me the Welsh has issues w/"strangers" and the English is friendlier, I don't want to eliminate looking at the beautiful Welshie if that's not an issue I could work out. My last dog was small, so I'm looking for moderation in size as well as maintenance. Don't know if there is much of a difference in grooming/maintenance and even shedding between the 2 breeds? Temperament is really important as I'm looking for another lifetime family member. Would you recommend one or the other based on what I've referenced? (I know it's not much...just trying to find the righ fit). Thank you!

    • @OSheaSpringers
      @OSheaSpringers  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Randy, it really is a matter or what is right for you. They each have their own personalities. There are two types of Springers--the type bred for dog shows and the type bred for hunting. The ones used for hunting are called field grade English Springer Spaniels. They're a little smaller than the other Springers and they're prettier in my opinion. From what I can see, all of the Springers shown on this channel are field grade Springers.
