I have seen a lot of homes where recreated Spanish/Italian architecture becomes way over the top in so much that it hinders on being ostentatiously gaudy.
In fairness, I believe I can make that comparison as I have been to Barcelona as well as Venice. This home, I might add, has a restraint of elegance yet retains
the character of these two influences and in my humble opinion, ticks all boxes. This home is absolutely beautiful both in the architectural elements as well

Don't get me wrong, this is an interesting property. But it can sometimes border on gaudy. Most of the materials are faux applique! Rendering it a little bit Disneyland. The reason they highlighted the "solid" door carved from one piece of wood tells you something. It is one of the very few bona fide objects. But to give credit where credit is due, it does contain some good design elements...IMO
For got to mention thee price. Beyond marvelous, may I say.

This house is so over the top, and such a mish-mash of styles, that it's gone way past kitsch and become almost an art installation. I actually like it, but I'm not sure I could live there. What I find weird is that it's built in a desert.

Sometimes less is more. Do you really need a gallery with a vaulted ceiling ? The problem here lays with the over indulged, look at me attitude that those with this kind of wealth seem to need. If you are so shallow as to be bowled over by a few carefully chosen pieces of furniture placed into a fantasyland, fairy castle, then perhaps the superficial aspect of this property would appeal. The negativity seems to come from the fact of a good idea, ruined by overwhelmed sensibilities. To most this property would be mind blowing'ly beyond their wildest fantasy, however to someone accustomed with refinement, this property falls short and just seems show'y and thus tacky. This much money could be better spent on feeding the needy, or helping the homeless, instead of the big ' I am', which seems to dominate current social thinking. But your point about negativity certainly has merit. If you had that kind of cash.. would you ?. After all you can only sit/eat/sleep in one room at a time.

We're all individuals with different tastes and levels of consciousness regarding art and living space. I'd be willing to bet that the artists who put this place together would never dream of questioning 'what you needed' in terms of living space or what you thought was appropriate for your own life. Enjoy what you've created for yourself.. and let others do the same. Some drop by just because they're looking for decorating ideas... some stop in because they love the art and architecture. In the early days of my career.. I never dreamed anything like this was possible.. until I actually saw it.. and it inspired me. Lots of folks shoot for the moon.... until they notice the Sun. And sometimes all it takes is for someone to come along and just blow a little bit of air onto the coals of inspiration to get a real fire started.

The home is beautiful and obsessive. And I imagine that the owners fit in well with the snobby, classless, plastic people who seem to dominate the North Scottsdale scene. I guess that when you're nouveau-riche and trying to develop a quick impression of classiness and "old money" security, this would certainly be a great home. Nothing screams Italy quite like a pretend Old World villa in Arizona. What is it that they can't show? Probably the bunker.
