The old "Bucket of Fish".
A classic...
Right up there with the Pat Boone - Debbie Boone.
“Takin A Dump” is how I was trained.
Classically trained*
Stu...
😂😂😂😂
This is the first 'lick' I learned on drums. I watched another drummer play it while fooling around in between songs...YOINK!!!! I stole that bizniz right there! Good stuff!
Bucket Of Fish ! I love it bro .
"It makes you sound like a drummer". Yessir!!!
Also really good turned upside down, starting with a kick
That lick is right up there along with the 'Flats in Dagenham' (as we say in East London) lick
Shugga De Boom! it just works and sounds pretty dang groovy! Thanks Rob.
Yes sir been playing this lick for about 45 years, always referred to it as the 4 stroke ruff, and there’s the 5,6,7 stroke version as well. Steve Gadd made great use of this lick in several drum solos throughout his career. I’ve been teaching this to my students for years. Thanks for reminding everyone about it. It’s a forgotten lick That is awesome!
Ahh yes! I teach it as “Kettle of fish”. Love this lick!
Bucket of fish! 🥁
I believe that’s the correct nomenclature 😂
I will most certainly make use of this to keep my drumming a fun exercise regimen while i grow old and yet refuse to grow up!
Great lick! I learned this as 'bucket of fish' but Shugga da boom is a better name
Mr. Beatdown, thank you so much for showing us this no nonsense lick. I am going to work on this one for sure.❤️🙏👏❤️🙏👏❤️
Great. Learned this lick now (as a non-drummer😅) on my son’s kit. Nice and clear tutorial.
Thank you professor. I am now ready to be a student of the Shugge De Boom.
Also I definitely thought you were gonna say something about staying hydrated with the hot weather and you dropped the merch plug 🤣 I love your content!
That's one of my favorite licks too, but I do it this way: snare, hi tom, kick, floor tom. I learned it from the legend Jimmy Chamberlin from SP.
Exactly! That's the way I've always done it...feels weird to hit Kick on last beat
I use it quite a bit. Sometimes, I'll do it with just the snare, floor tom and bass
Intros slap every time
OMG, Rob! I was thinking about this lick yesterday and today and it just showed up on my feed! It’s like we had ESP just now. Danny Seraphine used this lick twice to open Chicago’s Old Days from Chicago VIII. Thank you for illustrating the sticking pattern. I’m ambidextrous and I couldn’t decide which hand to start with! Makes sense to start with the right! Cool!
Long time viewer Rob. Your videos are always great, but I always find myself mesmerized by your use of accents in your groove. The bell patterns, the extra strong chick in the hats, just groovy man. Any advice to bring that into my own playing and get it feeling as silky and organic as you do?
I just started to work with this lick and really appreciate the options to round it out.
Gorgeous sounding cymbals.
Hey Rob….fantastic filll……I believe it’s also called bucket of fish
Correct. I think it’s got a few names. But I think we all agree that mine is the coolest 😏 lol
@@RobBeatdownBrown I would have to agree with you on the one🤘
Bucket of beat down ? No ? I tried
Love it. Nice and effective. Love your content rob
This was my first fill and I use it a TON, especially in solos. I also do a sextuplet into it a lot, but I do a paradiddlediddle or two puh-duh-duhs instead of the six-stroke roll. I also sometimes play the paradiddlediddle between the snare and toms too, giving it even more melodic movement.
Thank you Rob for this super lick. As usual your course are just the best.
Nice licks! Thanks.
Thank Mr. Rob. I will definitely add that to my practice routine.
I'm digging on this lick brother thanks!
So cool and easy! Thanx🎉
Thank you boss always something good to learn
Killer man - thanks!!
Great little bit there!
SDB! I am gonna practice this one today -- thanks Rob!
Sounds awesome in all phrases
I took it to the kit and immediately fell in love with it lol, thanks
Superb playing, sir!
This is the lick I was missing. Thank you, having so much fun with getting this and other ideas added to muscle memory. Cheers man.
I liiiike it ! TY for keepin’ it simple and hittin’ it nice. 🥁😎
Very cool grooves here. Cheers, Rob! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️🥁
That is awesome!!!!
Great tutorial - progressive. Easy to follow. Great application. Thank-you!!
Nice and smooth
Yea, first time I tried learning this fill it was introduced as 'Bucket of Fish' lol
Thanks rob
WOW... heard or felt this a a million times never knew how to make it happen. Thanks super cool...
It was called a drop when I learned it many years ago. Love the 6 stroke lead-in, sweet!
Love it, buddy, your drums sound, clean and tight! Thanks for the teachings, bro.🥁😊🥁
Love the extra ghost notes flavoring the demo. Giving me Ideas...
Nice thanks, just subscribed 👍
My god those drums sound great!!!
Cheers Rob
Old Days by Chicago starts with a double shugga da boom lick
Very cool! I been practicing it. Harder to do fast for sure. It’s really a quadruplet with the bass drum hit I guess.
I done love me some shugga de boom.
Pushed LIKE at the very beginning as you made the 1st statement!
Didn’t even need to hear the description to know the lick lol. Aptly named!
keep dropping those dimes 🪙Rob!!!
Cool!
BOSS!
You have been doing a great job on these videos for years. Keep up the great work. Much Success.
Thanks a lot, man 🙂
Great vid’
Seeing the Ted Reed book in the background is not lost on me. Would love to see you do a video on how you used that book.
Nice.its .something most drummers do naturally
Sqett thanks brotha Rob 👊🏻
Great name
Rob ... I think what playing is two 32 note triplets (phrased as a shuffle) and the bass drum punctuation. It's definitely five beats not four.
Sweet
You might want to check into Max Roach… The drum also waltzes, you know
Also known as Bucket O' Fish or Takin' A Dump.
Known as ‘bucket of fish’ in my ends! Thanks Rob 👍
Bucket of fish❤️🔥
What snare do you use and snared heads ? I’m interested I love that sound!
Btw I love that last beat you did, sick
Good tip. Looks like you've been hitting the gym. Lookin strong. Good vid.
Thanks for noticing, man. Yes, I’m in the process of finally droppin this covid weight 😖
4:49 Pretty cool indeed.
What kick drum batter head are you using in this video?
Sounds like an orchestrated single stoke four. Right?
What's the big cynbal on your left? Nice shimmer!
Nice nice nice Nice
Gonna run off and practice this now, just in case I end up in court in the near future 😅
I always play it RLFR...it sounds the same in my ears...is that ok? I love doing this fill and do it well. Hitting K on 3rd note allows you not hit 2 K in a row for a crash.
Easy, but Welll tought off 😅, nice
1st, nice easy lick, thanks. Question: how do you mike your voice for these vids? Lapel mic, studio mic out of shot? How to you avoid the kit bleeding into it?
I use a wireless lav mic and record the drums and mic simultaneously, then I’m just mindful of how I shoot the segments for clean transitions so they’re easy to edit.
It already had a name...bucket-o'-shit!
well. i see a police -ghost in the machine poster behind you.(my favorite album from stewart) shugga da boom that!
Mine too. The poster is actually a parody of the GITM cover with three digital Beatdown faces 🥰 Super cool gift from Sweetwater
I was playing this wrong the whole time. I was playing it Tickety Boom instead of Shugga De Boom.
I can never get my kick on time on this lick!
Play the kick 3rd instead of 4th...RLKR...that's the way I've played it for 30 years...seems more natural flow for me
Nice Snare! 😮 A&F?
Raw Brass, yes 🔥🔥🏆
@@RobBeatdownBrown very nice! First time I saw a knit by A&F was at the Tears for Fears Spotify Concert, what a kit!
Fruit of the loom
Your Shirts and hoodies are way to high but I love your content
My old drum teacher called this a tiddly poof 😂😂
Please don’t call it that with your outside voice 😑
@@RobBeatdownBrown 😂😂
😍👌
What kick drum head?
Zajebiste
I LIKE you don't do licks Rob. I come here for the real stuff, which you are IMHO a master of. But thuis is ok for once I guess...
This is actually called a 4 stroke ruff.
Ah, you beat me to it. Was just about to type that.
Bucket of fish
Why didn't you just say it's a Bonzo lick, which it is
I think the Bonzo lick is Kick drum 3rd in succession which is how I learned it and played for 35 years. RLKR...
I never see you do that left hand thing with the high-hat that these modern drummers are doing now. Can you do a video on how to do and apply it? I'll greatly appreciate it!!!
Hi! What is in the back the Ghost in the machine cover thing?
It’s a parody poster. Very cool gift from my friends at Sweetwater. They recreated the GITM album cover with three digital ‘Beatdown’ faces
@@RobBeatdownBrown thank you!
