I thought to myself, oh this one is three minutes. There won’t be anything much to comment on. And then you go ahead and do it again. I am so grateful you ask the important questions. Can you hear the cicadas? Am I paying attention to my life? My surroundings. Am I listening? What helpful insight. insights and reminders. The question I’m writing in my commonplace book even though it’s winter: Do I hear the cicadas, too? Thanks for another great blog. Even the short ones bring it! 😂
cicada sounds are so nostalgic to me. when i was 7 i remember it was a really cicada heavy summer. my mom and i would go out to pick up my older brother from day camp and the noise in the trees that hung outside was almost deafening. our backyard was full of them too. the ground was sprinkled with their coffee colored molted skins which i thought were bits of leaves at first (and when i realized what they really were it traumatized me haha). also fun fact: cicadas lay eggs which hatch a prime number of years later. the reason why if i remember correctly is because its to avoid the more predictable life cycles of the predators that eat them. when i graduated high school a year ago i was 17, and weirdly enough a giant 17 year old swarm of cicadas hatched and buzzed around the entire east coast. i thought that was a really wholesome coincedence when it happened, and it made me feel like some symbolic shift in my life was happening. the cicadas were back. i was free from high school. the world was my oyst... er..... um.... cidada shell! great video as per usual :)

I love this. I thought I was the only person who used to notice the music of summer--cicada sounds. It tends to evoke a bittersweet nostalgia within me. As if a part of me has awoken from the deep slumber of winter. They are like bells. Ringing when summer arrives. This video was so...uh..it was so beautiful. I'm a writer and these are exactly the kind of vibes I need. -------From a weirdo who gets excited listening to cicada sounds!
