    You don't own a goldendoodle; they own you. They demand belly rubs, your undivided attention, will show an intruder where the safe is and give up the combination for a cookie. All you get in is unconditional love and muddy footprints, all over your heart.

    I had a doodle for 13 years. The best advice I can give is that you let her stay over at other peoples house and what not. These dogs are loyal to a fault and will fixate on one person ( like you ) if you let her. Maybe have kids or friends walk her and someone besides you or the husband feed her. It will help with the anxiety when she's alone. It's so hard to do because they are so loving. My doodle wouldn't give the wife or kids the respect he gave me because I spoiled him so much with all my attention. Looking back I shouldn't have done that. Great video and she's an absolute doll. God Bless.

      @OzarkMountainGoats  Před 2 lety +2

      Thank you and thanks for the great advice! She’s 2+ now and doing better but she still goes bonkers when people come over. We live in the boonies so it’s a definite struggle, lol. She’s been left out alone when we’re gone since shortly after making this video and she’s perfect. Never bothers or destroys anything, etc. so thankfully no separation anxiety anymore. Thank you for watching and commenting 😊

      Wonderful advice! Agree completely, and for any breed that tends to attach to one person. I’d also add playdates with other age-and-size-appropriate dogs to the mix.

    My wife and I have a Goldendoodle that will be 2 in April. She has all of the same traits as yours. Very, very smart and loving. Almost human like as you said. We rescued her from a very abusive household. She wasn't being fed or watered and was living in a garage that was close to 100 degrees. It was one of the saddest things I've ever seen. She's ours now and those days are over for her, thank God. I think she knows we rescued her by the way she acts toward us. Now she only gets the best of the best from us and in return she gives us the best of her best. We love her more than words can describe. Like you, we feed her Purina Pro Plan. She has a sensitive stomach and this seems to agree with her. I hope yours is doing well. They are fantastic dogs!!

    We've just got a 2 year old rescue golden doodle, she was used for breeding in a barn in Ireland, she's had quite a hard life up to now, but what a lovely dog, she follows our Labradoddle around everywhere and is so gentle yet massive, she has paws like a bear, she's going to be the best dog with some training, she's so happy to be out on grass, it's like she can't believe her luck.

    Probably the best two breeds to combine as they are very similar in personality & you get a great dog. People should consider when they mix breeds what they are doing. Some can be disastrous & should never be combined as they make dogs with a split personality.

    I notice that most people showing their golden doodles on CZcams have medium and standard-size doodles. I almost got a golden doodle from the pet store today, I was told they were mini golden doodles. One was more poodle and wired I could not calm him and the other was more mellow and I assume more retriever than poodle and shred on my clothes a lot. I did not have the connection to the two like I did when I got my SWD who has been gone for over a year now. I want to find a mini or medium golden doodle that does not weigh more than 30lbs. Hahaha. There was something about the pet shop pups that I just could not commit $5,000 to not knowing if they were true doodles or some other mix.

    • @OzarkMountainGoats
      @OzarkMountainGoats  Před 2 lety +2

      Wow, $5000!! For one dog?! OMG ~
      That’s the thing with mixed breeds ~ you never know exactly what you’ll get. It just depends on what physical and behavioral traits they inherit from each parent. I would suggest finding a reputable breeder with the parents on premises. We visited our breeder and saw both parents, how they were housed, etc. and it made me much more comfortable. Plus I had access to lots and lots of pictures through our breeder so I could see the offspring of Scarlet’s parents. Hope this helps and good luck in your search!

      @@OzarkMountainGoats Yes $5000. LOL! My SWD Mickey resembled Scarlet even at 12 years old. I live in the Midwest and most breeders are at least 4 or more hours away from my home that is how I ended up in that pet shop. I may be in luck I found one close enough (4hrs) that possibly will let me know if she has a litter this coming week. *fingers crossed.

Our best family friend, an astute dog steward, also has F-1 goldendoodle, now about 7 months old) - the most exuberant and personable dog possibly I’ve ever met. Needs and gets major regular exercise and in bunch of training classes. Seriously high energy even with all that! It’s exactly the breed I’d get if I had acres for her to romp and run everyday.

    My golden doodle refused to sleep in his cage and poohed in it to stop me putting him in it. While he enjoyed socialisation classes he did not like obedience classes and would pooh in the middle of the room each time so that we would be banished from any more. Oh yes, he’s smart ok! He’s appropriated all the sofas, grumbles incessantly if he’s told off and lies on his back with his legs in the air so I can’t be cross with him. He is, however, afraid of water!

    I am about to get a goldendoodle in October. I am so excited!! I have a question. Are Goldendoodles bad to run off or not stay in their yard? My last dog was a Great Pyrenees and they are notoriously stubborn, hard to train dogs. They were bred to work independently as guard dogs for sheep and other herd animals so they made their own decisions. I could not let Osso of her leash outside unless I had a rib bone to call her back! 😂 worked like a charm though! With training can I be comfortable playing in my large front yard with her off leash would you say? Scarlet is a beauty and thanks for the video!!

    • @OzarkMountainGoats
      @OzarkMountainGoats  Před 4 lety +2

      Gravity Works - hi, and thank you for your question. I can understand the problem with your Great Pyrenees. As goat owners we know what fantastic LGD’s they make! As far as our goldendoodle goes, Scarlet does very well in our yard off leash. But I am right there with her and I would never leave her on her own. We have larger predators in this area that I would worry about. I’m sure under the right circumstances and with a lot of training it could be done but it’s not a situation that I personally recommend or want to achieve. Scarlet actually would not want to be away from me and doesn’t let me get out of “her” sight when we’re outside. She stays very close to me and follows me everywhere. It’s great because I don’t have to worry about her wandering off. Thank you for watching and commenting and good luck with your goldendoodle! 😊

    • @gravityworks777
      @gravityworks777 Před 4 lety +2

      Ozark Mountain Goats , thanks for your quick reply! You know, I had thought the same thing earlier today about them not wanting to be away from their human! That really helps relieve much of that concern. I agree, leaving them alone outside would not be a good idea. I am getting him as an emotional support dog to help with my severe depression and to help deal with being basically homebound from a chronic illness. The isolation is terrible and life has been a struggle of meaninglessness and lack of purpose. I have read really positive things about them as therapy dogs. I am so excited to get him!! Having ME/CFS, my cells do not make and replace the energy I use up, like a healthy person does. So I have limited energy so I am a “spoonie” if you are familiar or know anyone with Lupus, I think they started that theory. I have seen those ball release toys to help play fetch. I was wondering if you could think of any other activities that would help exercise him without me having to run around with him much? I was told they are very chill, relaxed dogs when I began searching for one 6 months ago. Now Inkeep hearing about what high energy dogs they are... 😳 One reason I loved my Great Pyr, Osso, she was a typical floor mat dog and I didn’t have to worry about a ton of exercise or feel guilty for not. My doodle I want to tire him out each day and for him to be appropriately active. My parents can walk him some (I have to live with them) and my mom walks laps around our house and large yard several times each day. So that would help...any other ideas?? Wonder if I could set up some sort of obstacle course in the backyard around the gardens...

    • @OzarkMountainGoats
      @OzarkMountainGoats  Před 4 lety +2

      Gravity Works - I’m so sorry to hear about your health issues but happy to know you’ve got your parents for support. I assume you’re getting a puppy? I’m going to be brutally honest - the first couple of months was very exhausting while we worked on potty training, etc. And she was always wanting to play. Use a house line and take him out very frequently. I think boys are easier to potty train and have stronger bladders. Scarlet is my first doodle and I would say she’s high energy. I take her out to run in the yard at least twice daily. I try to “catch” her as she runs by and we make a game of it. I don’t know how old your mom is but I’m 63 (in October) and it’s fun for me as well. She’s hilarious and I laugh the whole time. Teach the “come” command right away and have your mom always carry treats (I use a little clip on bag) when in the yard so he will stay near and come when called. I’ve read the first year is the hardest. Scarlet is 7 months old now and has settled a lot but still very active and needy. She loves to play tug and I have lots of rope toys and long squeaky pull toys for her to tug on. I often sit in my chair or on the floor and let her pull till she tires, lol! She also loves to fetch a ball. As far as being a cuddle bug - she’s really not. She will stay on my lap or in my chair for maybe 15 minutes but then she wants down. Doodles are hot blooded and prefer a cold surface to lay on. She naps on our cold hard floor and doesn’t sleep on a bed - except when she’s crated at night. She also loves to lay in the shower because it’s a cold surface. So your pup may not be the lap dog you’re wanting. There are doodle groups on fb that I would recommend joining. I hope this helps and best of luck with you furbaby ❣️

      Hi and thanks for the question. I totally know what you mean about the puppy biting. I think Scarlet turned the corner at about 5 months. I used the “yelping” technique along with redirecting her attention and/or giving her something else to chew on. I think it worked really well while teaching her how much pressure she could apply. She still loves to “mouth” my hand but doesn’t hurt me and so I let her ~ since it’s a normal thing for a dog to do. Good luck with your goldendoodle ~ they are wonderful dogs❣️

    You have a very cute dog! we have an almost 12 week F1b female. I think she has every trait you mentioned. Your summary is spot-on. She also thinks herself as my other kid so become jealous and aggressive towards my daughter. Any suggestions?

      Carrie Li - hi and thank you for your comments & questions. Scarlet was quite a biter too. I used a couple of techniques with her. I wanted her to learn what was acceptable and how much pressure to apply when playing with me so when she hurt me I made a high pitched “yipping” noise and she let up or stopped completely. I also substituted a chew toy for my hand or whatever. And she quickly learned the word “no”.
      I would recommend watching CZcams videos on aggression. There are a lot of great resources out there. Not everyone will agree or teach the exact same thing but it will give you ideas and tips to try with your puppy. By 6 months, Scarlet was beginning to settle down some. Mario - hi, and thank you for your question. Scarlet is an F1b goldendoodle which means she is about 3/4 poodle and 1/4 golden retriever. She does not shed at all. A f1 golden doodle is half poodle and half golden retriever. They have the potential to shed but it’s usually much less than your average dog. Often goldendoodles don’t shed but nothing is 100% certain when dealing with a mixed breed. It just depends on what they inherit from both of their parents. I would do some research and try to make the best choice for you. Also, check out my video on goldendoodle coat types and maybe that will help answer some of your questions. If your dog is burning your grass? You may need to change it's diet away from dog food that has a lot of red meat in it. Its very acidic to some dogs. Our goldendoodle had that problem of burning the grass too. We changed to a poultry based diet and no more burning.. I had the same problem years ago. I didn't burn the grass but I got gout which is cause by high acidity in the body.. and if your dog has an oder to it, stop feeding it seafood like salmon and such. They may have a reaction to the iodine in fish and seafood. Again we had the same problem with our dog. Your dog will tell you what it needs if you listen..
