- What's shaking, folks! I'm back with another ABBA reaction from their 1974 album Waterloo, and wow, this might be my favorite ABBA song thus far. So join me for a really atmospheric and slightly darker ABBA tune, with lyrics that were quite intriguing despite being framed a bit differently than I considered in advance. Cheers!

One of my favorite songs off this album. It's about an overbearing mother. Her daughter wants independence. Great bass!!!
I always liked that one. The bass is outstanding! The lyrics are so sarcastic.
I love this song. The bass, the guitar, specially at the beginning of the chorus, the overall mood which is so different from the other Abba songs. Really good. Thank you for the reaction. Happy to be part of the journey, even though I came in late and haven`t gone through the reactions in order. Very interesting.
One of my favorites. Once again the genius of ABBA manifests itself in an unexpected way by crafting this song. Brilliant ABBA 👏 Thanks Matt, already looking forward to the next reaction! 👍
One of the gems from the album. Such a funky feel to this and would have been at home on a Stevie Wonder album.
One of my favourites from their early catalog.
The bass AMAZING! Very nice song!
Thx, The guitar solo at 3:07 is amazing even in their wide and diverse catalog. The bass is also creative and is put more in front than on most of their tracks where you have to listen sometimes to be able to hear the bass just as creative!
Hello there! Subscribed instantly when I saw/heard your first reaction of Ring, Ring. Also an avid ABBA fan here who shares the same nationality as them.
About the song, this is one of many hidden gems from them. That funky bassline in this song is so addictive. Looking forward to your deep dive of them, Cheers!
Thank you! Really having fun going through ABBA's music, glad to have you aboard!
I'm already curious what you will say about Watch Out. 😈
Hello again, so nice to see you return to ABBA reactions in "Waterloo" album
"My mama said" (1974)
This song isn't in my favorites
but it's a good song from ABBA beginning
and it's a good in your musical genre
only not included in my ABBA Top 50
(because ABBA have a lot of greatest songs)
"My mama said" is 6/7 pts to me
from this album my Top5 is:
Honey honey
Dance (while the music still goes on)

Gonna sing you my love song
and, of course, and first:

After all these years, I just recently got the 1st 2 ABBA albums. This song is probably the most un-ABBA sounding song of their entire catalog, but I really like this one and is quickly working up its way into my top 10 favorite songs. One thing I haven't heard mentioned on any reaction videos is that wonderful synth filtered noise sound that really gives the song a dark, mysterious, kind of creepy feel.
My favorite songs off this album, Waterloo are: My Mama Said, Dance (While The Music Still Goes On), Watch Out and Gonna Sing You My Lovesong!
Mine, too!
Hi, Matt
The bass sounds amazing!
Disco/mysterious as an episode of Shaft 😀.
Does not have the sound of ABBA👑, but is a very good song 👌
See you soon
Love ❤️ from Chile 🇨🇱👍
I agree, this is my favourite ABBA song of their early years. It's completely unique, no other song of theirs sounds like this, and most people probably wouldn't recognize that it's by ABBA. It really shows their versatility, they can handle any genre, in this case soul & funk. The lyrics are weird though :-)
This is a cool one and quite different. It sounds to me like they were going for a pop R&B vibe, like something out of the Philadelphia sound like the Three Degrees or First Choice. We know they were listening to that sort of thing as we shall see a bit later in the discography. Thematically it makes me think of The Shangri-La's I Can Never Go Home Anymore where she complains about an overbearing Mother, runs off with her boyfriend, realises she doesn't really love him but in the meantime her Mother has died of a broken heart. Tragic!
One word = FUNKY / GROOVY 2. 🎉
dude, I was WAITING for you to get to this one.... it's my favorite of the first 2 albums as well.... its a bad ass tune with so many cool instrumentation parts. Also, notice how my good my pressing sounds? It's straight from the original vinyl going through a tube amp for that warmth. The CDs (and especially the remastered CDs) are just icy, cold and flat. The vinyl has a punchy warmth. 👊🥵
It's true, when I load these songs up, they are much "fuller" and louder than a lot of the other files I've been playing in the different deep-dives. The record really does sound great.
Well, we all seem to agree that this is a standout on the album. One of the things i like about this track is that it shows how well Frida & Angetha understand their craft, that they know how to tell a story with their performance and don’t just belt out every song. They’re not just vocalists along for the ride, they’re musicians as skilled with their instruments as Benny & Björn are with their’s.
Are you "the" Adam who has provided Matt with this ABBA deep dive? If you are, THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC, man! I am a huge ABBA fan myself and for someone like Matt to listen to every song on their albums is just AWESOME! I understand you also sent him some of Frida's and Agnetha's solo work. Wow! I can't wait to see those reactions as well!
@@scottarooni yes I am THE Adam. I host a server that he connects to.
@@adamlewis3729 Oh, that's great! How did you discover ABBA? For me, I was 11 years old when "The Winner Takes It All" was playing on the radio. That song and the album "Super Trouper" started my personal ABBA journey.
Sorry this is in by all time bottom three of ABBA songs along with I Saw It In The Mirror.
